Wharfedale Diamond SW150 Subwoofer : well worth the money!

Quite very well constructed which is why its so major. Quite pleasant sleek bass that isnt ‘boomy’. Even for a ported enclosure it has very awesome sound high-quality. Bought it linked to a pioneer vsx-923-k and klipsch reference ii speakers. 1 issue i would say is run it from your avr with an ‘rca y cable’ as youll get marginally far more output from feeding the two the right and remaining channels of the amp in the subwoofer.

Photograph does not do it justice this is a very rather and perfectly designed speaker. Slightly smaller sized than i imagined but with a seem much greater than my preceding subs. Photo does not do it justice this is a pretty very and properly created speaker. The grille and screwholes usually are not as apparent as in the pics. Only draw back for me is the crossover is just a tad to very low as i like to just take a small additional bodyweight of my mains so i can get a cleaner seem at loud volumes and drive them past their limit with no distortion but which is just me.

I had normally been sceptical of the virtues of subwoofers, primarily at inexpensive rates, but right after hearing one made the decision to just take the plunge. After looking at testimonials, i selected the wharfdale sw150 and have not been upset. My only regret is that i did not get one several years in the past, i have been lacking out on so considerably of the audio. The section management functions out very best at 55hz with my speakers and what a difference. There is no boom, just organic extension. The audio is introduced to life and is so much additional sensible. The subwoofer is positioned in an unobtrusive place. It is perfectly away from the speakers but you would not imagine so as lower frequencies are not directional and the extended bass seems to emanate from the speakers. Highly proposed and a discount at the cost.

Comments from buyers

“Smooth, powerful, and very transparent. Real enjoyment, Incredible Sound Quality at this price, Excellent Control, Speed, Slam and Extension, This SUBWOOFER barks, Wharfedale Diamond SW150 Subwoofer, Excellent Value Subwoofer”

I purchased and returned this sub-woofer about a thirty day period in the past due to sounds even when very little was linked. The sub-woofer was so excellent that i decided to give it another test. This time the sub-woofer has no issues. Compared to my jamo 200w sub and logitech z5500, this generate much far better far better quality bass. Make sure you take note that it will not appear with sub-woofer cable so you have to get your individual. The box has only sub, guidelines and power cable. Nevertheless, an superb sub at a incredibly great cost.

Unbelievable seem high-quality at this rate. I was truly bewildered specified the extensive amount of selections when picking out a subwoofer. I are living in a one bed room condominium and have a tiny to average size residing space, and essential a sub to genuinely experience the thump in my audio. I dont play the music loud, so required a sub which produce the low frequencies cleanly at lessen volumes. With my price range around 150 pounds, i had narrowed my possibilities to yamaha fsw150 or cambridge audio s80/s90 or the wharfedale sw150. Given that only the wharfedale experienced 10 inch speaker and its favourable opinions, i resolved to give this 1 a test, even nevertheless it was the most highly-priced just one of them. The sub was sent in best condition by superfi and hooked up to my onkyo tx-sr309 and thats it, beautiful apparent thumping bass. Head you this speaker is really hefty to pick up, so be careful when going it. There is no speaker cable integrated with the subwoofer, so i had to obtain it seperately.

Clean, highly effective, and very transparent. Clean, effective but not overpowering at all quantity stages, and very obvious. Sure you can shake the household down if you want to but it maintains the audio i (and probably you) seek at all volume concentrations without having distortion or breaking up (at least as far as i can handle it). Pro’s:- pretty sleek, transparent nevertheless effective bass from very low to substantial volume levels, but not overpowering (except you opt for it to be)- excellent degrees of manage possible (volume, crossover, section or 180)- superb, quite possibly unbeatable, value for income- vehicle-poweroff (standby) – valuable considering that controls at the again of unitcons:-controls at the back again of the speaker so getting seem, crossover, and phasing right in the beginning can be difficult relying on placement.

  1. I bought and returned this sub-woofer about a month ago due to noise even when nothing was connected. The sub-woofer was so good that i decided to give it another try. Please note that it doesn’t come with sub-woofer cable so you have to get your own. The box contains only sub, instructions and power cable. Nevertheless, an excellent sub at a very good price.

Parties and still seems to be going strong really pleased. . Owned this since september 2010 its been played very loud for movies and parties and still seems to be going strong really pleased.
    • Sounds good but is it reliable enough?. It sounds great but this is the second one with a 2011 one just stopped making sounds with no identifiable reason – lights still come on etc but just no sound. Had a fiddle but no luck would be pricey to send back the old one for a look and probably wouldn’t be worth it. I considered giving only 3 stars as it really should not have stopped working so quickly – i am still running loudspeakers from the 1970’s that are working excellently.

Used with wharfedale diamonds. As expected took a bit of setting up to get good balance – plenty of stuff on the net about this.

Decent ‘musical’ sounding sub-woofer. I bought this to perk up the sound of a second system attached to my home entertainment pc. I use it with bi-wired wharfedale diamond 220’s and a yamaha a-s301 amp. The sub is driven from the dedicated sub-woofer output of the amp and the crossover / volume controls on the rear of the sub allow you to blend the sound for a decent balance. You will need to tinker a bit for best position etc. But overall i’m very happy with the sound from this budget set-up. The bookshelf sized diamond 220’s on their own are too small to provide the sort of presence i’m used to from my main hi-fi system with big floor standing speakers, but adding the sub-woofer makes a huge difference – well worth it i would say if you are considering such an upgrade. The bass isn’t overblown and it rounds out the sound nicely. I feel this is more of a musical sounding sub than a foundation-shaking special effects unit – although it is plenty loud/deep enough for my tastes. Build quality is good and it is not too big.
    • The best subwoofer in this price range i have ever owned. Siolid bulild, produce very deep bass.
      • I was very excited for this subwoofer. And once i received it, i couldn’t wait to plug it in after seeing the crazy amount of good reviews. However, i was disappointed to find out that perhaps i am the one of few that doesn’t think it’s all that. I have never owned a subwoofer in my life, so i can’t compare it to anything particular, but i have heard pretty bassy systems before and been very impressed. However, once i started playing my favorite songs. It wasn’t the bass i had expected. It wasn’t extremely tight like i expected it to be, that being said it wasn’t boomy. However it had a huge rumble. I could hear the bass bouncing off different areas in my room which you wouldn’t expect to be a problem, but it got really annoying really fast. I’ve returned it and am left in huge disappointment as i thought owning a subwoofer would be amazing and i’ve wanted one for about 4 years of my life. I did read online that it isn’t worth spending £100 on a subwoofer.

I would highly recommend this unit. This replaced a rel q100 sub which had given sterling service for many years but was now showing its age. I had anticipated things to have moved on with subwoofers but did not expect the performance level hike of this little unit. My former rel sub was very expensive by comparison and at least twice the size of this unit. It was also extremely difficult to integrate with my main stereo speakers (tannoy 6 series floor-standers) whereas the wharfedale sw150 was a doddle. It goes just as deep as my old rel did which i still find quite remarkable from such a diminutive unit. Although it can thump you in the chest if needed, i mainly use it for sacd and dvd-audio playback (both formats having dedicated lfe channels) and for this it is simply superb. I would highly recommend this unit.
    • Positively surprised at the impact. I’ve got this mated with wharfedale diamond 9. 1s and a sony amp and it has much more presence than expected – i’ve never had a subwoofer in my setup before. Happily fills a 6m x 5m room. Some tweaking with the amp settings to get the sub at the right level for my ears took about ten minutes and the end result is so much more than i was ever expecting – warmer, deeper, more involved sound from everything i play.
      • Wharfedale diamond sw150 subwoofer. Had wharfedale speakers already to match. This 13 inches cube weighs about 20kg. Not much to match with sony str-dn1050 receiver – still working on it.
