Wharfedale Diamond 220 Speakers : What Speaker of the year 2015 < £200

Awesomeness in a compact sizing. Super fast (early) abroad delivery. You won’t consider how fantastic and thorough the audio is from these compact units. And bass reaction is also shockingly great. Very good plenty of of you are only organizing to hear to tunes methinks. Nonetheless i strategy to increase an spc-ten subwoofer (wharfedale) to the setup for additional impressive film audio results. And i’m confident it would not damage the soundstage any when only listening to tunes. :-)and did i mention the quality?. Brilliant the end and the corners (criticised on more mature models) are perfect. And they come to feel assuring sound and weighty, no low-priced resources applied in this article. Purchased some wharfedale diamonds again in the mid-80’s and these are each and every little bit as very good as i remember and far more.

They glance lovely and sound beautiful.

I used to have extremely previous eighties. I applied to have extremely outdated eighties b&w dm220 with a yamaha amp of the exact period of time. When it stopped working we took the chance to make much additional house in our little cottage and got a b&w zepplin. When the zepplin packed up, i seriously required to go back again to the high quality the separate hifi objects could give. I obtained a marantz amplifier and these wharfedale speakers. I am definitely content because the audio is not just far better than the one particular i was finding from the zepplin but i consider, if i try to remember properly, it is even far better than my initial system. We use it for everything: we stream music with the laptop, we hear to cds, we listen to the radio, we pay attention to our previous vinyls, we make the audio of the television go via them. The audio is distinct and it appears to be that all the frequencies are actually good.

Comments from buyers

“I really love them! I used to have very old 1980s , The finish of the speaker cabinets is good, and unlike our previous speakers my wife is , A truly amazing set of speakers, 9.1s just as good for half the price, Excellent speakers, Excellent. As soon as they arrived”

As shortly as they arrived, i opened and examined and what we have is a very wonderful on the lookout pair of speakers. Unfortunately wharfedale’s good quality manage is nevertheless not living up to what they should be. One of the speakers is marginally off-established on its base, this is apparent when you are shut to the speaker and i have to say the alignment of the 2nd speaker’s base is just not great both. The entrance panel on a single of the speakers is also not aligned beautifully. I am not utilizing the biwire setup option, the unit is supplied with bridges. In my situation i am applying these speakers connected to a cambridge soundworks thx qualified bash amplifier as component of a computer system sound set up, changing two of the satellite speakers. This required me to tweak my outputs slightly as the wharfedales tackle a broader assortment of audio frequencies than the outdated satellites and normally get a very little additional power to push.

These are highy advised – just lugged them into my stereo and have been blown absent by the apparent, crisp sound.

Fantastic audio for a best sound.

    9. 1s just as good for half the price. I have recently bought a pair of these. To go with 2 pairs of wharfedale 9. 1s that run in my dinning room and kitchen. The build quality of these are a lot better than the 9. 1s but as far as sound quality there is little difference except the bass on the 220 seems to be a bit lighter. If you are on a tight budget then i would look at the 9. 1s they are less then half the price of the 220 and i think just as good. But if looks are your thing then the 220 are for you. I bought the walnut finish and they do look good.

Got these speakers after doing a lot of research into which would be best suited for my amp and turntable. These were reccomended on a forum. . The sound is great and they look nice too.
    • A truly amazing set of speakers. Ok this is early days just got these speakers they are coupled with a pioneer a-20-k 50w stereo amplifier (also from amazon) and playing my fiio) x5i player (flac files)thro that set up but the sound is amazing hearing new things in all the music i am playing. Old system wasn’t bad a technics tuner amp and mission speakers but over 20 years old. The sound from this set up now is just blowing me away 🙂 the amp is a good one, would recommend that and the fiio player is amazing, would definitely recommend that, but had already used the amp and fiio player in conjunction with the old mission speakers and it sounded good. Then these wharfdale speakers turned up, and the difference is amazing, such a depth to any music i play, be it blues, rock, classical, bluegrass, pop, easy listening (i like a wide spread of music). The bass is there strong and vibrant but not overbearing. The mids clear and the highs crisp with no jarring. Also the set up i’ve got at the moment is with these speakers on the floor and using only average quality cables, once i get them on stands and bi-wire them with better quality cables think they will be even more impressive. If your looking to spend around the £ 200 mark on small speakers don’t hesitate just buy them they are truly brilliantupdate (after two weeks) ok the speakers are now bi-wired with reasonable quality speaker wire (not wasting a fortune on cable as speakers are only 2. 5m from amp each side) and on two good speakers stands that put speakers at face level when seated.
      • Must say the build quality is brilliant. Have received them but waiting on the amp to arrive, must say the build quality is brilliant. Received the amp and these are such a big step up from much cheaper bookshelf speakers with an integrated amp just fantastic.
  3. I have a much larger (and more expensive. I have the speakers hooked up to a jolida 102b tube amp with a musical fidelity v-90 dac that is fed by a cubox-i4 running kodi that plays my flac files that i ripped from cds. I have a much larger (and more expensive b&w/rotel system in my living room) but this system (in my office) sounds ethereal, emotive – i listen for hours and hours with no fatigue at all. They sound beautiful and are so easy to listen to. The music is relaxed and the tone incredible.
    • Best sub£200 speakers you can buy. Pair these with say the demon 39dab and you get a super sound.

What speaker of the year 2015 < £200. Very good for price, did win what speaker of the year, which is why i got them. I'm no pro on speakers but my mate is and he like them too. You will need to spend a lot more to get better. Quality build, look and feel.
  • Amazing speakers, especially for their size and price, but need to raised off floor. Complimented my b & w 110’s very well.
    • I used to have very old 1980s. I used to have very old 1980s b&w dm220 with a yamaha amp of the same period. These are high;y recommended – just lugged them into my stereo and have been blown away by the clear, crisp sound.
    • Awesomeness in a compact size. Super quick (early) overseas delivery. You won’t believe how good and detailed the sound is from these small units. And bass response is also surprisingly good. Good enough of you are only planning to listen to music methinks. However i plan to add an spc-10 subwoofer (wharfedale) to the setup for more impressive movie sound effects. And i’m sure it won’t hurt the soundstage any when only listening to music. :-)and did i mention the quality?. Awesome; the finish and the corners (criticised on older units) are perfect. And they feel assuring solid and heavy, no cheap materials used here. Bought some wharfedale diamonds back in the mid-80’s and these are every bit as good as i remember and more.
      • As soon as they arrived, i opened and examined and what we have is a very fine looking pair of speakers. Sadly wharfedale’s quality control is still not living up to what they should be. One of the speakers is slightly off-set on its base, this is noticeable when you are close to the speaker and i have to say the alignment of the second speaker’s base isn’t perfect either. The front panel on one of the speakers is also not aligned perfectly. I am not using the biwire setup option, the unit is supplied with bridges. In my case i am using these speakers connected to a cambridge soundworks thx certified bash amplifier as part of a pc sound setup, replacing two of the satellite speakers. This required me to tweak my outputs slightly as the wharfedales handle a wider range of audio frequencies than the old satellites and naturally take a little more power to drive.
