Wharfdale Wharfedale Diamond 9 : small but powerfull

Great mid sized speakers for not a lot of money, fantastic improvement on the sony ones that came with my music system. Good sound right across the range and still perform well at higher volumes.

Marvellous speakers, great value.

They took very little time to run in, sounding pretty good almost straight out of the box. Had my brother, who’s a sound engineer working for a speaker hire company, pretty mad, as he had just spent £80 on a pair of second hand supposedly good speakers (mordaunt short) who were not half as good and crisp as these.

Excellent sound from a fairly small pair of speakers. I’m using these in a room about 15 ft square on a denon av reciever without a sub. The sound is excellent and has been commented on by everyone who has heard it. They are a bargain price and look stylish as well. I can’t fault them in any way.

Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 Speakers (Pair) (Walnut)

I enjoy electronica, dance, rock and old blues music. My wife plays pop and is a classical music connoisseur. We have differing systems all over the house and i have my own studio. These are the best speakers we have (for all genres) and they are so good i have just ordered a second pair. Can’t fault them or the supplier. Oh, and they look really good.

Sound great but need locating properly and need reasonable volume to get the best from these. During the day with a dac amp on the tv these are brilliant but not ideal at night – just a bit too basey which tends to annoy the neighbours and wakes the wife up. Update: 8 months later i bought a second set for the hifi and they are superb.

Works very well with pyle karaoke amp very pleased with them.

Managed to get a couple pairs of these legends from the last ever shipment . Better than any diamond theyve made since 2003 when this model first hit shelves. The mid/bass driver was also used by “quad” in a pair of speakers costing many times more. That tells you of the quality on offer here. Biwired with decent amplification, the tonal balance, accuracy and imagery is staggering for the money.

A great buy, well worth a little extra.

From ordering to delivery was two days, i was sent an email on day of delivery giving me an hour delivery slot, a couple of minutes in to the time slot and the speakers were delivered. On opening the box i found what looked like a pair of black speakers but on unpacking turned out to be dark brown [pearl walnut] nothing like the colour in the picture but more of a match for the out going technics speakers. So i am happy with the colour. At first i was a bit disappointed with the speakers as compared to the technics they sounded “woolly”, after an hour or so they became much clearer and they bring some instruments from background to more up front which my b&w speakers do on a denon hifi that i have. Since delivery the speakers have had 24 to 30 hours playing time and now sound very good. My speakers are bi wired as i have a technics 6ohm bi amp 30 watt+30 watt. Which is the main reason for buying the 9. 1s as i needed 6ohm bi wired speakers as at this price are few and far betweeni found using a record track that i know inside out helps sound testing but not the same track on cd as the instrument playback can be different. Good tone and clear voices, i recommend , for the price far better than i expected.

Wondered how these could be 160+ rating on amazon and still have 5 stars – proof is now i can actually hear what i was missing from my 7. 2 surround system after replacing the front and rear corners with 4 of theseok, so made in china (who can tell apart from the label, the build quality is very high). Even the packing is extra special, foam padding top and bottom to look after these beauties during transit. A shame to ditch the boxes really. Comes standard with bi-wire terminals and links for single connection. These are weighty items so my little stands cannot hold them. Next, get some beefy stands. Only down side to these is that the massive connection block sits well proud at the rear, limiting standing mounting somewhat, depending on the mounting direction. I guess if you use them on bookshelves or other stands you won’t notice.

I still have my wharfedale denton speakers that are 40 years old and still going strong. So these speakers have a tough act to follow. So far very impressed although disappointed they are not manufactured in uk.

Having looked around for a decent, but non-expensive pair of speakers, and having done way too much research, i can honestly say that i am so happy with these. The sound is incredible with full range and clarity and certainly no need for a sub speaker. I’m amazed that sound can come out of such a size.

These are soooo good for the price, very good bass for the size too, using with a project turntable and a t-amp and they sound superb.

Excellent sound and fantastic value for money. Once set up, they sounded brilliant. Great purchase and highly recommended.

Excellent quality, look good but that’s relatively unimportant, what matters is that, in their class, they sound magnificent, just as a decent pair of wharfdales should.

Brilliant sound, fully exceeded my expectations, whartedale have a habit of producing goods that you expect to be mediocrity and really exceed.

I bought a pair based on the reviews and i’m not disappointed. For their size they punch well above their weight and for the price they are a bargain. I hooked them up to my harman kardon hk610 (bi-wired) and the sound is really balanced and clear in a big sitting room. Nothing is exaggerated, the bass sounds natural and vocals are clear and high notes are easy to listen to.

I have these wired up to a marantz pm5005, cd5005 and a pro-ject essentials 2 turntable. I was astonished at the price and blown away by the sound. I have the speakers mounted on floor stands. I was so impressed that i immediately purchased the sw150 to compliment them. I’m very lucky that i live in a detached bungalow and just as lucky are my neighbours. Even at a low volume it’s a bit bonkers. A pal came up for our usual intake and review of beer (tennents namely) and i put on the mountain will fall by dj shadow. Anyone who knows that tune will know there is a mental sub frequency near the intro.

Love the sound from these – and the build quality is superb.

Brilliant product and good for the price without question star purchase for 2016 excellent sound quality.

Have them on my surround sound as rear speakers. Very punchy bass very good mids and highs would recommend.

  1. These speakers are very bassy. I don’t know much about hifi audio yet, so the first amp i drove these with had absolutely no midrange, so i swapped it out for one that cost over twice the price and it sounded much better, but still with rather large amounts of bass. The audio is still clear with no distortion – you can pick out whatever frequency you want – but if you don’t want a big heavy bottom end, perhaps look elsewhere. These are nothing on my akg k702s for accurate reproduction. That doesn’t mean they’re bad. For about half of my music collection, i quite appreciate the extra thud, but like i said, they’re not accurate. One might be able to get closer to an accurate sound with an amplifier that splits the treble and bass, as these speakers have separate inputs for the tweeter and woofer, but like i said: i don’t know much about hifi audio yet. I’m just using the included plates to electrically tie the tweeter and woofer together. I have mine in brown – they look nice with the front covers on, if you like that sort of thing.

    • Speakers are better than expected. I have bi-amp wired these to a denon avrx 2400. You can hear every detail from the high and low notes. Would recommend these without a doubt. Oh and the box comes with excellent padding.

I’m an orchestral musician and i’m delighted with this fab pair of budget speakers which easily fill the room with excellent sound.
