Sony GTK-XB60 High Power One Box Music System, Great value

Bought for a house party, used with a few other smaller sony speakers. Used this to provide the base and the others to provide the sound. Took a while to work out how to link but once done very effective especially with the line out function still working.

Which pleased my 14 year old immenselyeasy to set up, brilliant light displays easy to control via phone or speaker1 very happy sonthank you.

I got a chance to try this speaker with its big brother, the xb90. The first thing to say is that linking them up wirelessly into a ‘party chain’ so that i streamed music through both speakers in separate rooms which was great. Perfect for a house party or to provide great sound in a larger venue. Though this is the little brother to the xb90 it still packs a powerful audio punch. The sound is great, even at high volume and the bass boost button adds even more to those lower tones. This has a built in battery that can last up to 14 rather than 16 hours but that still seems plenty to me. And the smaller size of it compared to the xb90 might make it a more practical (and considerably cheaper) option for many. It shares all the other great qualities of its sibling. Solid, rugged build quality. Horizontal or vertical standing.

Comments from buyers

“Loud x Portable, we love it
, Impressive
, FANTASTIC PRODUCT, AMAZING VALUE, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We bought this for my son and he is delighted, it is very loud and has great base, he carries it everywhere so it is portable x durable. One of it’s main jobs is to be played at full blast in the football teams changing room to rouse the team x scare the opposition, it’s perfect for that. One bit of advice if you were hosting a large party you might need 2 linked.

Great speaker, bought another so i can have one at each end of the room, would highly recommend.

Very loud and portable, marks very easily tho.

sony’s ‘(gtk-xb60) high power one box music system’ is a bit of a mouthful, but i’ve certainly been quite surprised with this, straight out of the box. I’ve only had the unit up and running since friday, so i intend to return and update this review, once i’ve had more time with it). It’s a sizeable / substantial piece of kit, but not so big that you can’t actually do anything with it. ) 22′ / 56cm x 10′ / 26cm x 10-11′ / 27cm (measuring the front, width / height, then the depth), with a fair amount of weight to it. The most immediate advantage of the design is that it can be orientated either upright (‘portrait’) or on it’s side (‘landscape’), and with the lift / carry handles that are integrated into the case design, you’re never left to scrabble around when trying to move it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the unit was shipped / delivered with a charge in the battery, so the unit was up in running almost immediately from getting it unpacked (there’s the usual multi-lingual instructions, warranty information and uk power cable in the box). On powering up, the unit defaults to looking for a bluetooth source (it’ll appear as ‘gtk-xb60’) and paired immediately with my phone.

This is a large speaker, the size of r2d2, and it comes with a correspondingly huge sound. I’d recommend downloading the application as you can control the sound and do things like turn off the lights (which are a bit weak. ) pairing by bluetooth worked straight away, as expected, and the sound from an ipod was loud and clear. I also plugged it into a record player using the supplied leads and got a room filling sound. Design wise it’s not great, and the lights are pathetic, but it’s a great speaker for parties or setting up outside during summer.

Having bought this for our son for xmas, i didn’t have a clue on quality value for money ect. However, on recieving this speaker amd listening too the sound quality. The sound quality is amazing. With the added extra of the lights. The speaker is amazing and well worth the money.

Bought this for my eldest son for his birthday. He seems to be pleased with it.

This is hands down the best bluetooth speaker out there. A few imperfections, but very nearly perfect. Reminds me of the old megabass boomboxes of the 80’s. Note that there are two volume controls, bluetooth volume from your phone, and another from the speaker. When both are maxed out then it does get muddy, but honestly you’re not going to listen to it that loud as you’ll soon have a headache. You can plug into line-in, but that won’t be nearly as loud. Probably not, but that’s not the intended purpose. This is truly portable, and sounds great replaying phone quality music.

This was a gift for my son’s birthday. Looks and feels a substantial bit of kit.

99 on ‘deal of the day’ offer and for that much is worth every penny. Nice and solid build, heavy but easy to carry with handles both sides. Powerful and sound quality is ok for what you pay. I think is naive to compare the quality of the sound with bose (like some other guy did) – you get what you pay for. It is a descent speaker, perfect for garden parties and other small gatherings.

Great sound and great product.

Battery life is very good last for about 8 hours on a beach. Speaker design is very good also – don’t need to hide it in closed or under the bed. Bought it as a gift but now i want one.

Even though it seems to distort the sound in the high range and extra base but if you lower the volume just a little and believe me its still loud enough and the sound is very very good , i bought 2 and linked them and the sound is again very good , the light show is great and there are apps out there that can help you up the settings to your own preferences all in all i think they are real value for money at the bonus price well worth the try . I`l definitely be buying the grandkids a couple that im sure they will be delighted with , hope this helps you in a little way .

This is a great speaker for a party, however the sound quality and clarity compared to a bose sound dock is some way off. The bass is great and the light show from the speaker is a great added feature and went down a treat at my daughters 5th birthday and nye party. However for those that like their sound quality, rather than quantity this is not the speaker for you. . I have however party chain linked this to my bose sound dock and the two combined provide a great balance of bass and treble. Battery makes this very flexible and i suspect it will be venturing out into the garden over the summer (with the bose linked to it).

Review for sony gtk-xb60this is a fantastic speaker worthy of 6 stars (if i could). While it is hard to get excited about a speaker, i know, this one is worth it. The sound quality alone is so impressive from low volume to massively loud top end. The bass is punchy at high volumes (the extra bass) and literally hits you both hearing it and feeling it at your stomach while standing in front of it. There isn’t another speaker in the house that can achieve this. There is a button that mutes the beastly bass and tames it for any early morning or late evening listening pleasures, but generally i preferred it on. The overall sound quality is stunning and is uber clear but it does distort at the final top end volume, which is really really loud and not something you would probably have turned up often if at all. The sound manages to be both elegant and beastly depending what features you have set (extra bass) and i don’t have a speaker in the house that can compete. The closest is a quality wifi speaker which this speaker just bested with ease. When at near full volume it very much reminds me of nightclubs where the bass is enough to brutalise your ears.

Incredible sound with any style of music you decide to play. Apart from maybe a more easily said model name, there isn’t much negative feedback on this product.

Expensive for what’s out there, but yet again sony impress on me the value of paying for quality. Bass is deep and meaningful. Not just loud but picks up the subtle interlocking bass tones in most modern music. Tried out with xx, gorillaz, some hip-hop, 90s nu rock and some led zep. As good as listening on good quality headphones for really picking out the details in the bass performance. Not as good on the rest of the range (slightly limp guitar solos, unimpressed by reproduction of voices) but that’s allowable as it would be expected to be used in conjunction with other speakers for full range performance. Used with an app so your controller is your phone or tablet or aux lead. Aesthetically it’s a compromise. It’s not meant for the home as a party speaker meaning it’s more suited for smaller events with its built in lights. I would have preferred more classical stylish lines but it’s not in any way displeasing to look at you may get tired of the flashing lights on.

Sony HT-RT4 600W 5 – Nice product for a closed room. The speakers come to life volume set to just 20% of max vol

easy, took around 15 minutes to get everything unpacked and set up and another few minutes to get acquainted with the remote and controls. However if you wanted you could probably spend a few hours tuning the system to your exact needs. Thankfully however, the default sound settings (music, movies, gaming) seem to do the job.  fine tuning the different settings can be cumbersome as you only have the small window (2 inches) on the front of the sub-woofer. However the manual itself is quite detailed and after a short read you understand how to use the system.  bluetoothsetting up the bluetooth was easy as a flick of a button to the bluetooth setting. The phone had no bother connecting. However i will say that the range compared to other bluetooth devices i’ve used isn’t the best and it seems to drop out at about 2 meters. When within that range the music’s sharp, and sounds great.

Absolutely fantastic piece of kit the sound quality is excellent easy to set up.

The overall quality of this system exceeded my expectations. Having not seen it in person before buying, i wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but the units are very well manufactured as you would expect from sony, and the hard wire mesh is a nice touch. Very clean, simple, and elegant. The sound quality is fantastic, so can’t fault them on that, although there appears to be a lot of reliance on the sub-woofer which you are able to adjust the sound level of this and turn it off if it’s not to your liking. The system is perfectly adequate for your average british living room, and you will probably not want to crank it up further than 3/5 of the way for fear of aggravating your neighbours, although at full crank it is enough to vibrate the walls. However, i do have a few reservations regarding some design choices by the designers of this set, which i will explain below:first of all, i found the proprietary cable connectors to be very cheap quality, and completely unnecessary. I understand that sony has done it this way to make the set-up effortless for people who may be of low intelligence, but i personally find it patronising. I would have preferred to have just had the usual bare wire set-up. The touch-panel on top of the sub-woofer is awkwardly placed, and easily brushed over. Anyone with pets can probably understand the frustration when they breeze past the unit.

Great addition to my sony tv easy to set up looks great and sounds good 5 stars recommended.

Pretty good, but not quite bassy enough.

Very easy to set up and connect. Sound is fantastic, user friendly, i would definitely recommend this system.

  • Mostly for the brand name

  • Nice product for a closed room. The speakers come to life volume set to just 20% of max vol

Delivery was not as prime expected but arrived n looked brilliant and sounds superb.

Excellent product with reasonabl price.

This mid range setup was a gift from my wife this christmas. We were previously using the built in speakers of our flatscreen tv. The speakers are not wireless. The sound is reasonably full but at low to mid volume the bass is not very deep. As you crank up the volume the bass fills the space well and the sound is enjoyable. It’s good as a plug and go system and took about 30 minutes for me to set up. It gives a good enough cinema sound for the money and given the recent drop in price it’s very good value. More bass would get it the extra star, but that’s personal taste.

Good sound bar surround system. Setup takes about 20 minutes, it’s mostly unpacking that takes the time up. Everything slots together and the speaker connections are colour coded. I recommend getting a decent optical cable as it comes with a little piddly one. The sub is touch sensitive so you can change input channel or volume. Sound from the speakers is very clear and crisp and the bass from the subwoofer is ok, not a thumping boom which for me is perfect. Comes with remote control too.

Super, ordered friday, advised delivery of wednesday, arrived next dayeasy set up and now watching (and listening) to star wars :-).

Would have been 5 star if i could have played cd music through it without having to have the tv on needs another hdmi in but still sounds good.

This product is absolutely fantastic. The sound is brilliantly clear.

Everything works as described. Surround sound quality is good if there is dolby sound for the video your are watching. Base performance is not too bad as some reviews says. Soundbar needs improvement, you cannot easily identify most of the times, the sounds from the left and right channels separately whenever happening. You feel like it is coming from the centre or whole of the soundbar. Closer assessment would prove the channels are working separately, but that is not doing any good while you watch a movie sitting 7 feet behind the tv. Even though wired, they can be easily hidden under the mats or sides of the room. Rear tall speaker stands are not heavy as it seems, it can fall easily by a knock (chair, hands in the air, pets, kids etc).

I found this product very easy to set up. Sound quality is perfect for my living room. Some commented that it lacked bass. Just stick it on movie mode and boom.My only criticism would be that it is a bit over priced.

The setup of this soundbar system was very easy and didn’t present any issues – we had it up and running in very little time. The remote control that comes with it is simple and easy to use although we now use our logitech harmony 650 remote control. Having different sound settings for film and gaming use works very effectively and the xbox sounds especially good through it. I’ve used the optical port because i didn’t have a free hdmi socket – it’s nice to have the option of either optical or hdmi arc. I find it a bit of a shame that all the components have to be cabled together. The sub is the wiring hub and the cable between the soundbar and the sub is only around 3m long which means that you’re somewhat restricted as to where you can place the rather bulky sub and generally it’s going to have to be near the front of the room. On the other sony soundbar that i have had, the sub was connected via bluetooth and could therefore be moved around the room as desired. Overall, though, this system provides very good, room-filling sound. In our house it’s mainly used for gaming and it performs this task admirably and really adds to the gaming experience.

Real surround sound: Experience 600W of 5.1ch real surround sound from a compact set-up for the ultimate movie night.

Perfect bass and very clear. Takes about 30 minutes to set up.

Very difficult to fault at this price. The only issue i can come up with is the sub woofer could do with being louder. If your room was reasonably large then this would be an issue. I bought it due to the combination of the sound bar and the rear speakers which works very well for me.

This is my first experience of a soundbar and speaker system that’s as high-tech as this. From the pictures on the box i thought, ‘it’s wireless, great, no trailing wires, we’ve got a rat’s nest of those here as it is. The speakers are wired, not wireless. Which wasn’t such good news for me, as i am a) disabled and b) clumsy. They can be wall-mounted, but they are also of a size that doesn’t look right mounted on the wall if yours isn’t a particularly modern house. Most of my house has paintings on the walls, with little room for speakers. They have had to take their chance amongst the wires on the floor. The cables do run to the subwoofer, but that still involved a lot of fiddling, tugging and placing. Mine is a fairly cramped space and this isn’t a system for cramped spaces.

Good product, soundbar has lots of power and really great sound for movies and tv shows. Good bass aswell from subwoofer for playing music, however the tall speakers lack any power and are overpowered by the soundbar and the cables are only 10m long.

It’s very well packed, so i almost took the wire as fixing cable and cut it. Set up is not difficult, just wire it up. However, the sound is not good at all if you do not carefully tune the position and download the sony music centre app to tune the volume/distance. That said, the first-day experience is not amazing. However, after two days of setting with the app, the sound becomes excellent. Definitely worthy to use as a home cinema system. Cons: 1) the bass is not as amazing as you would expect; 2) the price is still bit higher than similar products, so cost effective wise, not that outstanding. Conclusion: carefully chose this one if you have high requirements on bass or sound. Quite all right overall as a around 200 pounds product.

Great sound for music via bluetooth or films on tv or via prime etc. Only reason for 4 stars is the fan in subwoofer can be heard slightly when no sound playing.

Easy set-up: Remove the clutter of the traditional Home Cinema system with this 4 compact components solution

Like other reviewers i found the bass a little poor. The rear speakers are excellent as being on stands takes the speakers to the right listening level.

I’m absolutely delighted for anyone who struggles with sound from the rear you need to download the app and adjust the distance it is from you i done it and it took about 5 mins they are absolutely brilliant my chair shakes because of the deep bass and action movies and i use it for ps4 for gaming its just brill.

This is the fourth system i’ve installed during the last year, and this package fell right into the mid-range of the pricing options, so i was keen to see what sony provided at this price point. Installationsetup and installation is a breeze. The rear speakers come with 10m of flat cable, so its suitable for large rooms, and will also fit tidily under the carpet. The speaker wire threads through a hole in the base of each speaker – therefore, providing you were prepared to make a small hole in your carpet, the rear speakers could actually look wireless (the surround speakers are passive, so there’s no power lead). Don’t let the sony marketing pictures deceive you – the surround speakers are not wireless. Also, the bases aren’t particularly wide, and a gentle knock would topple the speaker (careful therefore if you have children). However, sony have also provided wall-mount holes in the back, so all the speakers can be wall-mounted. The sub can be connected to your media device (usually tv, but that doesn’t have to be the case) via hdmi (supported both arc and non-arc tv’s). Alternatively, there’s digital optical and analogue, plus bluetooth for music (see below). Bluetooththe bluetooth setup really is effortless.

Shame it doesn’t come with the hdmi lead.

The product is good and the sound is clear. We enjoy connecting our amazon alexa to them and play music. The bass could have been better2. A wireless connectivity to the two standing speaks would have been fantastic even though they have provided long wires to connect them to the woofer.

So i don’t have the room for the rear speakers, so i have set up the sub-woofer and the tv sound bar. As i am only using the sub/soundbar for sound out of the tv, a simple optical cable is all thats needed, from the tv to the sub-woofer. The sound bar is connected with a cable from the sub-woofer. Switch off the speaker from the tv, and job done. The sub is fantastic for movies, really good bass. It can also be connected using bluetooth from your phone/laptop, so also can be used for music streaming. Thats all i have done so far, but great, easy system.

The functions are very well designed so it integrates well with my tv and bluetooth devices. However the audio performance is quite disappointing, not really better than the non-brand-names. The stereo speakers are sitting right next to the central front, not separated enough to generate noticeable stereo effects. Its stereo effects are worse than my 65-in sony tv, which it actually serves for. This problem is very frustrating. The effect of its subwoofer is very modest, even at its maximum level of 12. The difference between the minimum level, 0, and the maximum, 12, is not obvious with a normal volume that you normally have at home. You feel the difference only when you tune it up to an uncomfortable level.

Simple connectivity: one easy HDMI connection to TV and instant wireless link to your smartphone with Bluetooth and NFC.

S-Master digital amplifier for refined, clear sound quality. USB audio playback. Bluetooth- AAC, SBC. Sound Mode-ClearAudio+, GAME, Movie, Music, SPORTS, Standard.

Sony HTCT290 – Really Pleased

Its just great, lovely sound easy to use no syncing issues.

Its nice to have good quality. Look forward to more hours listening to my music.

A great piece of kit, and after spending a fortune on a new tv, wich i am very pleased with but the sound was pants as in these new thin tvs there is no room for really good speakers a sound bar is a must. This fitted the bill and is very good.

Not bad for the cheapest sony soundbar out there.

Works great, sounds great, great performance for the price and the wireless sub is great as can be moved. The only downside is there is only optical in and one hdmi. No analogue in, i got around this buy purchasing an analog to digital adapter.

Geat sound ,i thought a sound bar at first was a pub that was open all day, sadly no,this one is much better and does not give you a hang over .

  • Nice to look at, sounds great and cheap. What more do you want.
  • Sound quality that packs a punch for the price
  • No lip sync issues

Had bought it for £150 and am using it for more than 08 months with a splendid performance.

Purchased with only a little research, but very pleased with the speaker so far. Great size, fits perfectly where i wanted it and very easy to setup up. Just two wires, clutter free and wow does it pack a punch sound wise. I’ve been wanting a sound bar for a long time, how it looked was important but also the cost. I did not want to spend a fortune but also wanted some sound quality over the low end models. I’ve used the optical cable included to connect to the tv and bluetooth for my phone. I can’t tell what sound level it’s on but i find myself turning it down at times. The added sub woofer fits perfectly behind the tv and out of sight – just the power cable for this, perfect for wireless heaven. All in all, very pleased with it, sound is great and can’t wait to watch a movie that needs that cinema quality experience.

Been using this for about a year and it replaces my old samsung one. It looks smart, connects well to samsung and apple.

This is an excellent sound bar and sub woofer for the price. I didn’t want to go cheap but not too expensive just somewhere mid range and the review for this one caught my eye. I was really impressed with the sound quality especially listening to music at high volume where the sub really comes into its own.

The product is sleek and fits nicely on wall, the sound is great for movies but not that great for music lovers the sub woofer is really disappointing considering it from sony there basss is just about average.

Great sound, just like being at the cinema.

I think i’ve read all there is to read online and in the product user guide, yet still i cannot get the audio and sony tv to sync satisfactory. Admittedly i am in the media profession so i suppose i’m sort of hyper critical but that said.

Amazing bass definitely recommend for a good home cinema set-up.

Replaced a samsung sound bar of lower quality. Great sound, and the bluetooth connected sub-wooofer can be positioned anywhere. As usual the sub-wooofer only adds a bass rumble but it comes into its own with action movies. Sound options are quite limited but the system puts out such a great sound why do you need to adjust it?.Very happy with my purchase.

Brilliant sound and wonderfully unobtrusive in room.

I could think a couple complaints but all in all for the price range this is an awesome product and you won’t get much better.

Immersive sound: Recreate that cinema feeling with Sony’s S-Force Pro Front Surround sound technology

Sounds is not what i was expecting, probably my living room is a big too big for it, maybe in a smaller room, it will perform better. It is ok, but not what i expected.

Great design, low footprint, easy to setup, good value for your money. Only wish i’d bought it sooner.

Easy to connect, sounds good, nice colour, whats not to like it’s sony.

Great sound and very easy to set up and operate.

Bought this soundbar because i was having difficulty in hearing the tv dialogue (i’m getting on a bit). Soundbar has been excellent, easy to install and operate and sound quality now vastly improved.

Ordered this from amazon warehouse so a bit dubious, especially about some of negative comments regarding lip sync. Up and running within 10 minutes (i did read manual carefully prior to set up). My tv is a sony bravia but 6 years old and i was also worried that the sound bar would block out tv remote signal. The sound bar is very compact in height and absolutely no problems with tv controls. Also it synced with my tv and the sky remote automatically – a breeze. The only negative is that the sub woofer is fairly sizeable, but it is tucked away discretely and again connected wirelessly with no problems. Also play music from my ipod/iphone which all connected easily through bluetooth.

Simple connectivity: one simple HDMI connection to TV and easy wireless link to your smartphone with Bluetooth

Liked improvement in tv sound (sony 4k bravia). No indication of sound level from remote. No problem with lip sync, press the voice button on the soundbar remote.

Use it for every day use and movies sounds great little frustrating setting up but once done it’s fine.

Sound from the sound bar is very tinney. Changed hdmi and ungraded optical cable. Very disappointed in this product, sounded great in store. Subwoofer is good but needs volume up to high to really appreciate it.

Easy to set up, excellent sound, the sub woofer really supplements the overall sound, providing a subtle base when listening or watching something with a deep base sound, otherwise its just the bar you can detect. Make sure you pair the sub woofer speaker whilst its reasonably close to the bar, once paired, you can stand it where you like, there’s a good 8ft, distance from bar to sub woofer in my set up. Usual sony quality, which transforms the sound completely.

It works wonders just with the bluetooth connection. Using it on a desktop pc with a bluetooth receiver is just great. Not a lot of cable management and the quality is just out of this world.

I got this item so i could mainly listen to must from my phone or computer in the living room. Obviously its also made to use connected to the tv, so i have done this too. As a tv sound bar:i have the bar connected to the tv via optical cable and have not tried the rest. So any results i receive may differ if another form of connectivity is used. The sound produced from films is amazing. Does well at producing base and does not seem to struggle with anything i have thrown at it so far. The sub has its own volume if you want more or less, so it will not take over the experience. Voices are clear and explosions are full and surround the room. The soundtrack to a move is as clear as any talking throughout. As a bluetooth music player:after listening to a movie or two i was not surprised how it sounded when i listened to music through it.

. And brilliant sound, am very happy with it.

Easy to follow quick set up guide. Let down by not as clear instruction manual. Adding to a different brand tv with hdmi arc required switching back and forth between different pages of the manual. Having said that, once set up it works well with excellent sound quality and the hdmi arc allows on/off and volume control using the sky q remote for the t.

Sony HT-MT300 Compact Soundbar : Laggy unless.

Nice and compact, works a treat. No issues with connectivity or sound quality. A huge step up from the tv speakers. Woofer works well for tv and film.

I bought this to enhance my new 4k tv, i particularly liked the fact that the soundbar and subwoofer were so small. The set up was easy and build quality was good except for the supplied optical cable which was plasticky and stiff and wouldn’t sit in the cable management of the tv stand properly. The soundbar quality was really good to be honest i was quite impressed not a lot of sound separation but it is a compact unit so there has to be compromise, vocals very clear and i didn’t notice any time lag. However the subwoofer although small sounds absolutely rubbish, no volume and hardly any bass. The subwoofer wasn’t any match for my old 8 inch cheap active sub which only cost £50 from ‘richer sounds’ very disappointed, if i had listened to this in a shop i would not have bought it i was almost tempted to return the item. Well i have now had it a couple of months and with tweeking of settings and changing location of sub it’s better but not great, i also found using the optical lead i had to keep reaching for the remote so now wired in analogue i can control the volume with the tv remote with no loss of quality in the sound.

It improves the sound from my samsung tv no end, but the bass isn’t brilliant. Once you connect the iphone that’s a different matter, massive bass response and excellent all round sound.

Brilliant product for the price, really happy with this sound system. Have it connected up in my lounge sounds great watching the football and playing shooter games on the ps4.

  • Ease of set up and use
  • Really like this as you can have the subwoofer anywhere because
  • When it is switched on sound quality is reasonably good.

I liked the fact it was a small soundbar with a slim sub. Nice and tidy to go with my 55″ bravia 2016 modelhowever. . I was highly disappointed when i found two massive flaws with the system1) you cannot use a sony tv remote to control the soundbar???. I have a bravia kd55xd8005 4k tv and the remote worked fine with an lg soundbar but the mt300 is not compatibleabsolutely ridiculous. 2) the bluetooth option will not work with my sony tv either so i have to resort to an optical cable. So two huge features that i needed and yes i should have done more with my homework but hey sony and sony i stupidly assumed they would be compatible apart from that it has a great sound. Please research compatibility if you are matching with a sony tv or you will be disappointed like me.

Easy to set up and the sound is good for your basic requirements at a reasonable decibel level . Its a neat set of speakers and look quite tidy.

Was looking for speaker to fit axactly under tv and this fitted the bill, with no space to spare. That aside i was looking for sony as i like the quality of sony products, the sub unfortunately did not fit under my sofa, but is slim enough to still look good while not encroaching on the room. Sound is very good when watching good quality content. Good and full bass when listening to music. Loud enough for the whole of my house.

Good bit of kit nice and compact but not much bass but still sounds nice.

This is a fantastic product simple to se t up (10 mins ) looks good sounds great 😄.

My main criticism of this unit is that you have to switch it on separately. This means, when you switch on your tv you have no sound until the unit has been switched on and warmed up. When it is switched on sound quality is reasonably good.

I was given the sony ht-mt300 as a birthday present, and i love it. It is small at only 50cm wide and the sound for the size blows it away. I heard the bose system against this one and there really is no comparison. I have the subwoofer put under my sofa, and has put on sofa mode. To the people saying there is no base, try sofa mode. I have wanted a sound bar for some time, and have hummed and hayed for years as to what to go for. This one came about, and at a decent price point, a nice size and great sound. I haven’t really watched much tv using the bar, but have watched numerous films, and listened to a serious amount of music through it.

I have already previously owned a sony soundbar which has served me well with great quality of sound. But this new soundbar takes it to the next level. Easy to install you plug it in and then attach the wire to the tv though you can run it through blutooth. Once up and running it produces a wonderful sound with strong and deep base and clear sound. The different settings on the control means it is easy to change to suit you best and what you are watching including a handy setting to make dialog clearer. I have the base to the side but it resonates as though it could be anywhere in the room producing a solid surround sound style experience. For best effect if you can play with your television settings to get the optimal experience and set the soundbar as your main form of sound. Goes brilliantly with my 55″ sony television and will serve me well for many years ahead.

Was a little lets say unsure of the value of a sound bar. But with the new 4k hd sony 43kx80 tv, its a must. Without it, the sound from the actual tv is ok’ish but from the sound bar ones gets a the clear range for tv shows, cd movies etc.

Wish we had known about such things earlier.

Using it in the bedroom linked optical to a sony bravia, easy to install, easy remote control and the sound in the bedroom is perfect for me. De bass speaker also easy to connect and could find a nice spot for it which also improved the bass “feeling”. Good price & quality relation so happy with the purchase.

Really like this as you can have the subwoofer anywhere because it’s wireless. Can’t have it under our sofa but it fits between two chairs and you get great bass and rumbles – love it.

Very impressed with the clarity and quality for such a small soundbar.

The settings are pretty finicky and there isn’t a way to tell which one you’re on other than to listen for the difference so for some things it can be difficult. However the sound is great and it can go extremely loud.Bluetooth is great when i want it to connect to my phone for music.

Easy to set up and within minutes had my tv, laptop and pc connected to it, tv by cable and pc/laptop via bluetooth. It is easy to switch from tv to bluetooth devices and select the relevant sound type (e. Music or voice) though the number of choices is limited. However this is not a high cost soundbar so the range of choices is to be expected. Unable to comment fully on sound quality as i have impaired hearing but have found that a sound bar with digital output has improved my ability to hear, particularly at low volumes, without deafening the rest of my household. The soundbar has a ‘night’ mode which is particularly good at producing clear sound output at low volumes. More than happy with this purchase and can say that i can listen and enjoy music again.

On first impressions, this is a well made product. The quality of the components & materials feels luxurious. All wires needed are provided with the unit. The actual sound bar is a good size, & doesn’t take much space. -set-up: very easy & straighforward. -sound: for the size, excellent. It’s not surround but it has made a huge improvement with the seemingly popular problem of sound with a lot of hd/smart tv’s. It’s not that loud but if you live in urban apartment, it’s more than enough. Sound effects:-clear audio>sony recommended sound field , automatically optimises according to context & function. -movie>surround effects-music>optimised for musicnight>compresses sound (& the bass too it seems).

Bought this as i liked the compact size. Had a lag issue when connected to my sony bravia tv. After speaking with sony they offered no help. Update: so i connected it via aux.

Disappointed with performance.

Sony GTK-XB90 High Power One Box Music System : Sure a bit overpriced for the sound. But I

My son got this for christmas it’s amazing the sound is unreal he loves it and the lights are class.

That about sums up what is basically a bluetooth speaker. But one that will seriously kick your (and your neighbours) ass. If you fancy being evicted and having the police pop in to your party then this is definitely something you’ll want to buy. Soundwise it is very impressive and pumps out some high quality noise. The fact that it has an extra bass button shows who it’s aimed at. My collection is sadly lacking in doof doof but even in my world of classic rock and metal it packed a powerful punch. It was easy to set up and even comes with a built in light show just in case the noise itself isn’t enough to get the folk next door hating you with a vengeance. To be honest it’s not likely to get an awful lot of use but it’s well made, does everything it claims to, lasts up to 16 hours of a charge and will make your party go with a swing.

On a basic sound comparison, this speaker is virtually no better than an ion block rocker i bought for £50 from john pye auctionsi appreciate this is more of an opinion than a review but i don’t think it’s worth the money, certainly no more than £200. Normally i’d try an item like this out in currys etc but due to time constraints (and trusting the brand) i simply ordered it from amazon. Where?slightly lame product in my opinion.

Only let down is no remote control. Although with the app downloaded you can control from your phone. Amazing sound quality and looks the mutts nuts too.

  • Okay, but nothing more. Disappointed.
  • Excellent speaker, no issues with sound
  • Sure a bit overpriced for the sound. But I

Volume is very nice but isn’t crazy loud, until you crank up the equilizor using the app, then it proper bangs.

Sure a bit overpriced for the sound. But i needed the built in battery so i have nothing to complain about. Bass could be a little more noticeable at lower volume but when you pump up the volume you will feel it.

Wow, this is a fantastic speaker music system that no self-respecting party goer should be without. The speaker arrives very well packed inside a heavy duty cardboard box. Inside the box are the following: • speaker • power cable • remote control • manuals and warrantyi was surprised at how big and heavy this speaker was … measuring approximately 67cm in height x 33. 6cm in depth and it weighs an impressive 14kg. The speaker case is designed with a matt black soft touch rubber type material on its exterior. It also has carrying handles on either side making it more portable. On the top of the speaker are various buttons as follows: • on/off switch • volume keys (increase and decrease) • extra bass on/off buttonsalso on the top of the speaker are three led lights • one will light when you have a usb device plugged in • a pairing light • an audio in light. On the rear of the speaker are the various ports … these are explained in detail inside the manual. This is a very noticeable item and its looks will not appeal to everyone … i don’t feel it would add to the decoration of your living room, it is more of a ‘take it out of the box for a party’ type of speaker.

The sony gtk-xb90 high power one box music system with built-in battery and lighting effects extra bass technology enhances deep, punchy bass sound. It has up to 16 hours battery life. Lighting effects with line, strobe and speaker lighting that change colour and sync with the beat. Flexible layout, with stereo sound in horizontal and vertical setting. Bluetooth for wireless music streaming via one touch listening via nfc & wireless party chain to connect up to 10 2017 extra bass wireless party speakers together for synchronised sound and lighting. The box also contains:ac cordoperating instructionsinstruction manualquick setup guidewarranty cardthis speaker is very large and quite heavy, i was hesitant to use this speaker as i feared complaints from our neighbours. Easy to use and setup straight from the box, i connected to my iphone 6s plus and was playing music via spotify in a couple of minutes. This would be absolutely fantastic for a party, especially when you have guests indoors and outdoors. Great light show that adds something special. A quality product from sony that i will enjoy using.

Excellent speaker, no issues with sound, if you like music is the one to buy. Took this to centre parcs and the kids and adults loved the microphone input and music quality.

I’ve been having a lot of fun playing with this beast of a speaker. I’m not sure the neighbours have enjoyed it so much. This music system packs a serious punch and is best suited for those wanting to host a party or to at least feel like they’re having a party every time they use it. It’s very easy to set up out of the box. I paired my phone via bluetooth and was streaming music in no time. You can also connect via nfc (and indeed via cable into a port at the back). Clear and powerful with amazing bass (especially once you hit that bass boost button) and, crucially, avoiding distortion at higher volumes. The lights on the front of the speaker automatically sync to the music that’s playing which is a nice touch. They’re really best used as a party addition, i’m not that keen on a light show when simply listening to music at home.

Looks brilliant thus far, still exploring what it can do, but brilliantly now connects up with my amazon echo and therefore 40 million songs via there very affordable amazon’s music unlimited (£3. Only given it three stars, as it would appear i can’t link my sony xb-30, that i purchased earlier this year, and difficult trying to contact sony to see if they have a solution. If they can resolve that i’ll give it 6 stars.

Sony GTKXB60L : Superb Speaker

Even though it seems to distort the sound in the high range and extra base but if you lower the volume just a little and believe me its still loud enough and the sound is very very good , i bought 2 and linked them and the sound is again very good , the light show is great and there are apps out there that can help you up the settings to your own preferences all in all i think they are real value for money at the bonus price well worth the try . I`l definitely be buying the grandkids a couple that im sure they will be delighted with , hope this helps you in a little way .

Having bought this for our son for xmas, i didn’t have a clue on quality value for money ect. However, on recieving this speaker amd listening too the sound quality. The sound quality is amazing. With the added extra of the lights. The speaker is amazing and well worth the money.

Which pleased my 14 year old immenselyeasy to set up, brilliant light displays easy to control via phone or speaker1 very happy sonthank you.

This was a gift for my son’s birthday. Looks and feels a substantial bit of kit.

Bought for a house party, used with a few other smaller sony speakers. Used this to provide the base and the others to provide the sound. Took a while to work out how to link but once done very effective especially with the line out function still working.

sony’s ‘(gtk-xb60) high power one box music system’ is a bit of a mouthful, but i’ve certainly been quite surprised with this, straight out of the box.

Incredible sound with any style of music you decide to play. Apart from maybe a more easily said model name, there isn’t much negative feedback on this product.

Battery life is very good last for about 8 hours on a beach. Speaker design is very good also – don’t need to hide it in closed or under the bed. Bought it as a gift but now i want one.

Great sound and great product.

Bought this for my eldest son for his birthday. He seems to be pleased with it.

Great speaker, bought another so i can have one at each end of the room, would highly recommend.

Sony HT-ZF9 3 – Good but not sure the atmos badge makes it worth the full price.

Well i will start by saying it comes in a most unusual shaped box – ‘l’ shaped. Next i already have my tv hooked up to two sound system, one full dolby atmos compatible and of course all other sound formats with dolby vision support. For general tv and to save electricity i have it also hooked up by optical cable to a compact stereo system. The first system has seven speaker units + sub woofer (20 speakers)the compact system has two speaker units + sub woofer (5 speakers)this system from sony has one speaker unit + sub woofer (4 speakers) – also physically the smallest speakers. Un-boxing the system is easy enough and the two units need mains power (plugs actually fitted with 3 amp fuses, well done sony for electrical safety). The system comes with a demo 4k uhd disc which plays a demo (under 3 minutes long in a loop) to show how well it works (the same or very similar audio demo is built into the soundbar). The demo disc sounds an awful lot more immersive on my main audio system. To link to your tv it either needs an hdmi arc socket (but it must have hdcp 2. 2 support) or as a fall back an optical cable (provided) but i don’t think optical supports more modern sound formats e. I spent an hour trying to get it to work with my 2017 lg 4k tv using arc (audio channel return) but i suspect that connection to my tv is not hdcp 2. 2 (it’s other hdmi connections are). Giving up on arc the optical cable worked first time (but with a slight sound sync issue). No hdmi cables are provided with the system.

Aesthetics========looks great, however it’s pretty long, and didn’t fit very well on my tv cabinet. It comes with wall hooks, which i think many will use (it doesn’t suit my corner install). The sub is pretty big however. The unit has a very high quality feel, and you can use it with or without the front grille. Sound=====very impressed by the sound quality, for tv and movies, it really did sound immersive, it’s a hugely powerful setup that is capable of great things. However to make the best of it. , you should budget for the rear speakers. I’m planning on buying some soon, as it’s not quite there without them (but still darn impressive). There is build in chromecast music, and this worked really well on sony’s end (less well on google’s end, as youtube music needs a subscription to cast music, youtube can’t cast music at all, and google music casts audio on the free plan, and it’s basically an inconsistent mess). I found i was better to stream bluetooth (which thankfully supports the very high quality ldac, in both transmit and receive modes).

We bought an lg oled e7v 55′ tv in august 2017, a major feature of which was its built-in soundbar. I reviewed it at the time and suggested that it was probably better to buy the considerably cheaper b7v and a separate soundbar as the sound wasn’t actually very good. Amazon deleted the review after a few weeks though, for some reason. I’ve been toying with getting a separate soundbar ever since, so was very pleased to be offered this one from sony to try out. The box it arrives in is rather unusally shaped (like a rather solid ‘l’) and it’s also very heavy. Most of the weight comes from the floor standing speaker. The soundbar itself is not particularly heavy. There are little wall brackets for the soundbar included if you need them. It’s really easy to set up, but you should note that you’ll need at least one, or possibly two decent quality 2. 0 hdmi leads to connect it to your blu-ray player and tv, depending on the hdmi sockets the tv has. It comes with an optical cable that will get it connected to your tv (if it has the appropriate socket), but you can’t access any menus on-screen without the hdmi lead. Once you’ve plugged the soundbar and speaker into a wall socket (two 240v sockets are needed), and connected the soundbar to the tv, all you have to do if switch it on with the remote (batteries included) and off it goes. It’s very intuitive and i had it working within only five minutes or so of unpacking it. There’s a good instruction booklet and a quick start up leaflet included too.

I already have a sony ht-xt2 soundbase, which provides superb sound quality, volume and bass to my tv. The xt2 is an all-in-one unit with built-in woofers. In terms of footprint, the zf9’s base is considerably smaller, but requires space for the active subwoofer. The zf9 is a far better choice for wall-mounted tvs than the xt2. I have my tv mounted to a rotating stand, so i have shelf space for the speakers, and the zf9 is strangely more difficult to house, because of that subwoofer. The zf9’s soundbar is certainly far more attractive than the xt2 (especially with the front grille removed), but the subwoofer is a plain looking black box that really could do with being hidden away. As a non-directional sound, you can put this behind a sofa and being a bluetooth device, you can do that without worrying about having to chase cables away. Excellentusing the hdmi arc port means you can control everything you need through the hdmi cable without the need to use optical cables. The built-in chromecast doesn’t have screenshare, though, so while you can use the speaker for music, i couldn’t cast video from my phone through the speaker. However, i have this feature built into my tv, but don’t assume it gives you screenshare.

I brough this as a replacement for my old sony sounder (2012), i had read a lot of reviews on line and through it could be a good option. In the end was disappointed with the lack of punch from the sub. I also tried several atmos films and the effect just didn’t work. Went for a bose soundbar 700 instead.

This is a relatively high-end soundbar, intended to act as a half-way house between the speakers in your tv (which are usually not that great) and a proper multichannel surround audio system. Opening the (reassuringly weighty) box reveals the bar itself, a subwoofer, and a few accessories – remote, wall brackets for the soundbar, and instruction manuals. There is an optical cable included, but the lack of an hdmi cable seems a bit mean, given this is basically useless without one. It’s trivial to set up – plug the bar and subwoofer into the mains (two separate plugs required), and connect the bar to your tv via hdmi or optical cable. The connection between the soundbar and the sub is wireless and completely automatic, which makes setting it up simple and keeps the lounge tidy-ish. There are a few settings to make for which you will need the onscreen display from the soundbar; this makes hooking it up a bit less obvious, as you will need to connect the hdmi out from the soundbar to an arc-compatible input on your tv (one which sends the audio back out of the tv) in order for this to work. Without the onscreen display, you can’t set up wi-fi (needed for spotify and the like) or create bluetooth connections. I hooked it up to my sony oled tv and my blu-ray player, and watched some of my usual demo content. The first thing to note is that this does a lot of processing, but it doesn’t by any stretch of the imagination produce surround – there is no sound at all from behind you, and the alleged ‘vertical surround’ feature really doesn’t make sound come from the ceiling; it just creates a wider soundstage which sounds, if i’m honest, a bit muddled. There are multiple processing modes – cinema, music, game etc; i found that cinema sounded most ‘impressive’, while music sounded a lot more accurate to the original sound, but it lost a lot of impact; you will need to carefully choose which to use, although there is an ‘auto’ button which tries to guess the right setting based on what you are watching.

  • It’s good. But don’t expect the Odeon.
  • Brilliant but surround speakers really required to do it justice.
  • Phenomenal sound reproduction on this setup.

Highly recommended if you don’t have space for longer high end soundbar ht-st5000. This soundbar will provide you crystal clear 3d 4k sound. Great for gaming and my dog is mesmerised.

Very easy to set up and will look the part next to your tv. In terms of functionality, i was blown away (literally) by the audio quality from such a compact system.

I have waited a while before writing this review just to be certain that my initial feelings continued. This is a very good soundbar indeed. There are many professional reviews out there that support this view, too. My son is going to be using it once he gets his new tv for christmas (to use the sony soundbar, your tv needs to have either an hdmi arc or an optical out – his current set has neither). The lucky chap will be having this because we recently invested in a sonos surround sound system and so can’t sensibly use it, except in a bedroom which would be overkill. I didn’t think this sony – less half the price of the sonos – would stand a chance in comparison. But it does – it most certainly does. It’s true that it doesn’t feel quite so solidly constructed as the sonos, and – unless you buy them as extras – there are no rear speakers for full 5. 1 surround sound (i do think they would be very worthwhile buying if you can push to them.

Purchased this elsewhere as there was a limited special offer on, however, the amazon price is still very competitive. When i bought my system, i had to wait a couple of days for the two rear speakers to arrive, so i was first able to test just the soundbar and subwoofer. These on their own make a massive difference when watching movies, and you do get a sense of the sound all around you (especially with an atmos or dts-x soundtrack). When the two rear speakers arrived, they made a noticeable difference and you can make out even more faint sounds that were not clear without them. Set up was really easy, just plug it all in, and the system take care of the rest. Even adding the two rear speakers was no more difficult than putting them on the correct side of the room, and to avoid any confusion there’s even a little diagram. Once plugged in, they connected on their own in just a few seconds.

I’ll cut straight to the point here, as far as sound bars go it sounds pretty good, i’ll go as far as to say i’ve never heard a better sound bar tbh. . But i’ve only heard a few. I’ve got mine hooked up to my apple tv and the latest apple tv update comes with dolby atmos sound support. I selected dolby atmos picked a really recent film in netflix and held my breath. Yeah it sounded good, far better than my old yammaha sound bar which in fairness was a sixth of the price so you’d hope it beat it. But could i hear rain drops coming off my ceiling. Could i even hear sound coming from all around me on the horizontal axis, not really. Like most soundbars the sound just tends to sound like its coming from straight in front of you. I’ve even sat in rooms with dedicated speakers all around me and its quite rare that sound ever plays out of the ones behind you, most stuff you watch has 99% of the sound just coming out of the speakers directly in front of you. Dont get me wrong, the sound bar sounds good, the vocals are nice and clear and the base is excellent. But i just doun’t get that surround sound feeling, let alone a vertical sound feeling. I know theres rear speakers you can buy, but the shape of my room doesn’t really support that as my sofa is against the back wall already.

I have delayed submitting my review until i could herat my his in action with the optiional rear speakers. Don’t get me wrong, the supplier soundbar with two satellite speakers and subwoofer is a very capable performer in its own right. Sound projection is very good, subclarity is excellent and the effect with a dramatic soundtrack or action scenes is far, far better than you will ever get with even a top end modern tv. The sub-woofer does a great job and of course it can be positioned anywhere, even behind a sofa. Setting up to obtain the best sound impact requires a little effort to input some basic information such as distance to sitting position and, get full functionality, you really need a reasonably up to date tv that has the relevant comma ports and hdmi standard. I will point you in the direction of the sony website or the informative what hi-fi for the technical low down. . My set up summary is that was relatively easy and nowhere as bad as my traditional, sony home cinema set up. 1 sound system, it is therefore well worth consideration, even with the relatively high price. However, if you have the desire and your budget can stretch to it, adding the optional ( and tad expensive) rear speakers adds a whole new dimension giving you a fully fledged bluetooth 5.

To compliment my sony kd sd65 8505 smart tv – as tv speakers are poor for that size tv. Had a problem to start which sony sorted out over the phone. The cat was asleep and shot out of the room when the sub-woofer came in at a film we were watching expensive but definitely the best – especially if you have a sony tv. I did a lot research before we bought.

So, i have been using the ht-zf9 for the last week and i am impressed – like all sony products quality is a given. At around the £700 mark i would say that this is expensive for what it is – for a 3:1 channel system. , anyway i do have a 7:1 system which i have owned for just over a year – the award-winning sony ht-s500, which is in a class of its own (and costs nearly twice as much as the ht-zf9) but if you can afford the extra outlay is the only soundbar to go for – i abandoned my up-market yamaha speakers when i got that beautyback to the ht-zf9 – it is easy to set up and sounds good – although the dolby atmos experience isn’t anywhere near the quality from the ht-s5000, it certainly does a good job of fooling you. I enjoyed watching christopher nolan’s dunkirk again with its foreboding soundtrack filling my living room, as well as watching the wonderful man in the high castle and listening to all of its musical subtleties and fine detail in the production of this outstanding tv series. I have been spoiled by the ht-s5000 but the ht-zf9 is certainly worthy of an audition. Mine will be going into our second reception room for when me and my wife want to watch different things 🙂 make sure you check out what hifi’s review, too. If you have a flat screen tvdon’t put up with the inadeqacies of built in speakers – you are missing out on so much.

3 1 ch dolby atmos/dts x soundbar. Audio sound is awesome movies and music sound brilliant on this soundbar.

This new unit from sony has sublime surround sound, excellent features and a surprisingly authentic reproduction of dolby atmos. Height aspect can seem subtle at first until you realise the sound is far higher than the bar placement and a sudden plane or helicopter whirr on screen seems somehow above you. Then you realise that the atmos reproduction is there. This is a brilliant new audio product from sony that rewards your time spent configuring it. Like all such units they can sound flat initially and need a little time to set-up in the right way. The optional rear speakers add a huge amount and are recommended. This is a sophisticated unit that rewards time spent getting to know the settings. In particular adjusting the speaker levels and distance to fit your requirements adds a lot. Everything connected easily and without any fuss. I turned the rear speaker gain up in the main settings and the extremely powerful subwoofer down to get a more balanced, expansive sound. Do play around with the modes – cinema mode is stunning and sports works perfectly too. For an old programme or film in mono the complex processing itsn’t required, so put it into music or news mode instead. The optional ‘dolby virtualizer’ is great to hear but locks out the various modes and settings.

A very good product but after reading all reviews i got the impression that the unit on its own was adequate and immersive. To be honest, i was indecisive whether to order the surround speakers on top of this as it increases the price substantially but having done so i would say that basically don’t order the unit without them. They make a substantial difference and sony should never have sold the zf9 without them. The other thing to bear in mind is that you need to go into the advanced menu and set your speaker distance manually. This does not happen automatically. You must also enable the enhanced hdmi setting if you have a 4k input source and make sure you order decent quality ethernet hdmi leads that can deal with the high speed connection. A great product but expensive when adding in the necessary surround speakers.

Immerse yourself in 3 Dimensional sound with Dolby Atmos and DTS: X

Excellent soundbar and subwoofer, fantastic sound quality when watching sports and films. I purchased the rear matching speakers and these took it to another level. A real must have to go with the sound bar and subwoofer. I have no problems with the mid range that has been mentioned on other reviews and the bass is awesome. Quite simple to set up and a really decent theatre sound i couldn’t do without it now, not the cheapest by a long shot but living proof you get what you pay for. Then as an extra bonus the subwoofer is wireless and if you purchase the rear speakers these are to, they all connect instantly and seamlessly this is a great setup.

I can’t really feel the atmos surround sound that was promised so not seeing the benefit of the high price compared to non atmos alternatives. Has 2 hdmi inputs and 1 arc out. Lots of good connectivity features.

The sony ht-zf9 soundbar and sub combo, whether or not twinned with its sa-z9r rear speakers, aims to offer a remarkably compact, simple and relatively inexpensive route to dolby atmos (an increasingly industry supported audio format which extends the 360 degree soundscape offered by various 5. 1 options to include the dimension of height. As well as making the sound appear all around you, atmos adds sound-space above and below you. Spaceships roar overhead and raindrops fall past your face to the ground. It creates a sphere of sound around the viewer rather than a circle. It’s a great effect and genuinely cinematic). Making it work in practice is another matter. The only sure-fire way of making a sound come from a certain direction is to have a speaker to deliver it from that place. Anything else is a trick, which whilst not necessarily being a synonym for ‘con’, does add some serious limitations.

Sony’s ht-zf9 soundbar is one of the higher priced soundbar systems within their 2018 range and you have two packages to choose from: soundbar with subwoofer or both mentioned with the addition of some wireless rear speakers; obviously with the latter you will get the better audio experience, however if you can’t afford to go for the higher package, the good news is, you can buy the rear speakers separately at a later date. At the time of this review, i have just the soundbar and subwoofer package. The ht-zf9 has a fair amount to offer from virtual surround sound, dolby atmos / dtx support, ability to add additional wireless speakers and multiple inputs for audio connectivity. Packaging wise, it comes in a fairly big l-shaped box and everything is well padded keeping the contents secure and safe, however not so over the top that it’s hard to get the contents out. It’s important to note as the product photos don’t give you a good idea of the scale; the soundbar measures across at 100cm, which is pretty long. When it comes to setting the unit up, in theory it’s extremely simple, however it really depends on your current set-up, for example: i have a 55′ tv that’s tightly placed under the stairs in my living room. Getting behind to access the power outlets and mess with the jungle of wires, is why it took me so long, but in reality, it’s done in a few quick steps. 1) connect up to two hdmi devices into the soundbar (no hdmi cables are included). 2) connect your soundbar to your tv via the hdmi out port; if your tv has a arc (audio return channel) hdmi port, then ensure it’s connected to that port on your tv. 3) if your tv doesn’t have a hdmi port with arc, connect your tv and soundbar via optical cable (cable included).

Sony HTST5000 – Best Sound I have ever experienced in my home

A lot of money for a system which fails to impress when listening to atmos encoded sound.

This is an amazing piece of equipment, i’ve just put this up today and it’s absolutely amazing the sound quality is excellent everything about this is superb.

After purchasing the new sony soundbar the first thing i noticed was a) the weight of the thing and the sub and b) the build quality. I wont lie, i am a huge sony fan and this unit does not disappoint. After unpacking and setting up which basically involves 3 hdmi into unit, 1 hdmi into hdmi4(arc) in tv and plug in the soundbar and sub to power supply. Then went into set up guide. Here it asks you to tell it where you will be sitting in the room, so measurement away from unit and then the distance between sound bar and ceiling so it can calibrate sound effect for the atmos. Unit was tested on volume 30/50(as loud as my room would allow without shaking) watching underworld blood wars 4k uhd. I was playing the disc via the sony ubx-h800 and a sony kd65xd8599. The sound is so big, so big infact my first thoughts were the 65′ tv did not do it justice anymore. The sub is also the best thing i have ever heard, because there are2 speakers in the sub 1 forward facing the other floor facing you retain detail in the bass but also feel it.

This is magnificent soundbar – i thought i had died and gone to audio heaven. I have never heard audio quality like this – seriously impressive sonics. First of all, this is a beast of a soundbar (and subwoofer) that comes in a curiously shaped box – l shaped. When the delivery driver dropped this off and passed it to me he told me to be careful – it is seriously heavy. The soundbar is quite ugly (it looks much better with the magnetic grille in place), the wireless subwoofer is more aesthetically pleasing but boy, does this combo have some serious output whilst maintaining the acutest clarity in voice, instrument, and sound effects. It is easy to set up – i hooked it up to my sony tv and sony bluray with pass-through hdmi arc cables and then i watched some bluray – first off the bbc’s recent adaptation of war and peace – astonishing. And then some amazon video, outlander season 3 and peaky blinders season 3 – the actors may as well have been performing in my living room. I then fiddled with the settings and downloaded the latest update via wifi and paired it with my ipad and played some of my favourite itunes tracks and wow – the musicality out of this is wondrously sumptuous; come together by the beatles, another one bites the dust by queen, and free fallin’ by tom petty and the heartbreakers – ringo, john deacon and tom petty may as well have been playing right in front of me. My wife thinks it is brilliant too – studio quality sound she stated and she is not into tech; and i suffer a lot from waf (wife acceptance factor)) – she has instructed me to go and find a suitable new av stand to accommodate this behemoth. 5 stars and then some – if i had to quibble, well it costs a tonne of money and the remote control is not dissimilar to the one that came with my sony bluray player (ubp-x800) but wow, and wow again.

Crystal clear, immersive sound. Clearly the 1-star review here is trolling or a disgruntled customer who has not heard this system or even bothered to use it.

The dolby atmos and dts x reproduction is truely ammazing, it has to be heard to believe.

  • Software is full of bugs
  • Good quality but can’t justify the cost
  • Unbelievable sound, unbelievable bass.

============= reason for buying =============i had the yamaha ysp-5100 for a long time and wanted a new soundbar with a dedicated sub for my replacement, after shopping around i settled on the sony st5000the yamaha was quite a tall soundbar having a heaight of around 6+ inches and that was also something i wanted to change, i wanted something smaller that delivered a punch============= contents and packaging =============i have never seen such a uniqely shaped box, it’s an l-shaped box that houses the woofer and the bar perfectlythe soundbarthe suboptical cableall power cablesa (pathetic) remote (and batteries)============= in a nutshell – good and bad =============good – excellent bass, good intergration with spotify, chromecase, bt etc. Dolby atmosbad – really pathetic remote considering some of you will pay upwards of 1000 for this. ============= setup =============setup is really a doddle. I managed to connet most devices via the wide array of connectivity options without reading the manual (woohoo)you can calibrate the height of your ceilings and wall distances in seconds, and then you can literally start enjoying. The sound on this bar is legendary, i used to watch my old yamaha on volume 30-40 and then lower to 20 after midnight, however this one is very loud at 15. It’s really punchy and watching a bluray really shows off the bars ability, especially something with a lot of bass============= outputs =============hdmi output3 hdcp comp. I ended up returning this soundbar after a month of trying to get support from sony. There are multiple bugs with the software. Main issue is the lack of info it provides on external devices connected to it, sometimes the audio displays on the front of the soundbar, sometimes it does not. If you set the soundbar to hdmi ‘extended’ which you should do if you have a 4k tv, things get worse, you can’t see audio info from external devices, you cant change audio delay if there is any. Sony refused to admit these were bugs. Firmware hasn’t been updated for a year and its looking unlikely it will be, even though its their flagship most expensive soundbar. There are also plenty of arc issues dealing with lg oled b7 tv, had to use some crazy workarounds to get the sound from the tv to the soundbar and then be able to switch to different inputs. Sound quality is generally good but you never know if you are getting dolby atmos or not. Sony’s suggestion was to listen to the top speakers to tell. With the refund i got marantz nr-1609 and kef ls50 speakers, much better option.

I really didnt know what to make of this product when it arrived from vine. I had no idea how big it was going to be or what it was actually meant to do. It took two people to carry it through to our lounge – the box is really big and heavy. Once i opened the box everything became clear. This is a sound bar that sits underneath your tv and a sub woofer that sits on the floor nearby (the sub woofer only needs a power connection and is not connected by wires to the sound bar). There is also a remote control, instruction booklet, bar grid (which clips onto the front of the bar for protection), a wall-mount guide (which we did not use as our tv is not wall mounted) and an optical cable (which you will need if your tv’s hdmi connection is not arc compatible (i didn’t know what arc compatible meant so googled it – we didnt need it for our tv and ours is a 10 year old aquos)the instructions are really clear and easy to follow – we used the quick start up guide rather than the detailed booklet. You need a hdmi cable to connect the sound bar to your tv – this is not supplied. You might also need to use the optical cable at this point (see previous comment on arc) – we didnt. We plugged the sound bar and the sub woofer into the power and then plugged in our devices (sky q box, wiiu and playstation 3) into the sound bar. It has 3 hdmi ports for devices and a usb port – it can also connect to devices by bluetooth (e.

Sony soundbar this is a brilliant soundbar. From the moment of opening the box and unpackaging the device (which i would suggest takes two people as the device is extremely heavy) you can see this device is quality. All metal construction with weight that suggests this is a very well built piece of equipment – made to be sturdy and no shortcuts have been taken in producing this device. The quality is there that you would expect from sonythis is a large device, just about fits below a 49” tv, heavy so if you intend to place on a stand ensure it is stable enough, please be advised when at reasonable volume this device generates movement so i would suggest it is on a large stand or mounted to a wall(fixing instructions included with a guide in box). Main soundbar can be used with or without front grill looks aesthetically pleasing with either option. Screen on soundbar to display mode and output. Subwoofer is large, also heavy with a power light to indicate it being powered on or status. Both soundbar and subwoofer are separate from each other and no need for unsightly cables connecting one to the other, also allows you to place each device apart from each other. Set up is relatively easy, full instructions included, personally for the cost of this device i think it is neglectful that sony have not included hdmi cables to connect to your tv or external devices, what’s a £20 cable to sony when your spending upwards of £1500, i know allot of people prefer to use their own but i think its unneeded cost saving on sony’s part. I would question the positioning of the hdmi ports on this device mainly the main output to your tv, this is behind an input hdmi port and extremely fiddly to connect – yes i understand that this is to ensure that cables are connected cleanly if situated on the wall however i think sony could have better designed this side of things.

The subwoofer is large with two massive speakers (one facing down), and the bass it can kick out is hugely impressive. It’s connected wirelessly to the main sound bar, and i’ve never had any issues with it disconnecting. It’s always just worked every time i’ve switched the soundbar on. The subwoofer has it’s own plug, as does the soundbar, so you’ll need two free power sockets. You can turn the subwoofer volume up to 12, although for normal tv level 2 or 3 is fine. The main ‘bar’ is quite large, and longer than a 49inch tv. The front metal grill can be removed, and is attached with magnets. The system gets hotter than i would have expected, but not excessively so. Once you’ve got your tv and soundbar connected using an hdmi cable, using the arc sockets (on both the soundbar and tv) then everything simply works.

After spending few days with the speaker, i come to a sad realisation is that sound quality of this speaker is not much different from my current 5 year old soundbar. The sound is good, clear and can be very loud, however it cannot justify the price tag considering this speaker definitely needs rear speakers.

Sony SRS-X11 Compact Portable Wireless Speaker – Great little speaker

Was a gift for someone else and i have been informed it provides ‘sound quality you wouldn’t believe’. So much so they are purchasing a second onei may even get one for myself after that review.

Not as good as some speakers, but for the price, they work very well. Very easy to use and last a long time without charge. Very recommended for anyone that just needs something small and portable to use.

Excellent sound, easy to use (my phone occasionally has problems, but my pc, my wife’s phone and the chromebook all work well with it. Here are the specifications for the Sony SRS-X11 Compact Portable Wireless Speaker:

  • Make sure this fits
    by entering your model number.
  • Wireless music streaming over Bluetooth with one touch listening via NFC
  • Double-up and get stereo sound with speaker pairing function
  • Take your music anywhere – a compact, wire-free design with integrated rechargeable battery – 12 hour battery operation
  • Hands-free calling – make and answer calls wirelessly from your smartphone straight to your speaker
  • Small speaker, big sound with 10 W power output

The only downside is the maximum volume isn’t very loud and will struggle to fill a room.

A which best buy i can see why. Have to pay well over £100 to better this.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Great for listening to audio books & podcasts on
  • Great speaker at the right price
  • Excellent wireless speaker

Excellent speakers with great quality sound and bass. Surprisingly powerful for its size, and the component itself appears to be of a good quality. Only downside is that sound decreases when it’s reached the end of its battery life, but that’s reasonable.

Really excellent little speaker, i would say well worth the price, sounds great with my mp3 but then you would expect a sony to sound great, am considering buying another for my wife to use with her smart phone.

This is a very good quality item. Excellent sound and volume for the money. I also have a bose soundlink and whilst it is better the sony is not far behind so for the price i would give it 5 out of 5.

I wanted a wireless, portable speaker that i could move easily around the house with me so i can listen to audiobooks and podcasts more easily, particularly when in the shower washing my hair (a 20 minute event). This speaker is perfect for that, i can easily hear the narration over the sound of the shower and suds in my ears (i couldn’t hear my phone on loudspeaker when i tried this) and i can listen to it over the noise of my cooking, extractor fan and my kids. I have used it a couple of times to listen to music too as well and it works well enough but i think if i were really into music i would prefer to use a better quality speaker but, for what i want it for, this speaker is excellent, great price and looks good too.

For the size this speaker is exceptional. Works great with my echo dot. The range is pretty good too.

Product arrived on time, however the box was not in good condition and the seal appeared to have been interfered. Not be deterred i checked the speaker sounds fine good sound for the size. I would rate this product buy two if you can for the compatibility and the stereo sound.

These are a great buy, good wholesome sound, very long life and very easy to use.

Good value for money excellent for my teenage daughter when she s out and about and nice and compact.

Brilliant sound from this tiny cube. Was not expecting it to be as good as it is. Only thing that is wrong with it is it doesn’t seem to charge and play at same time. But it is quick to charge so not really a big deal – just a minor irk.

My daughter was given this one last christmas and she uses it daily. It is perfect for her room and the quality is good to.

There are tasks in life that are simply boring and music has the power to improve them. As most smartphone speakers are far from actually good, i decided to give a true to a bluetooth speaker and one of my friends recommended this one. Good recommendation from himwhen i’m doing usual chores, such as cleaning, cooking, having a shower, etc, i simply turn it on and link it to my phone streaming spotify. Music sounds clear and can be very loud at max volume, so i even use it when we invite some friends home. It is very easy to pair the speaker with your device, both via nfc and via bluetooth, so much so that all my friends were able to pair their own phone without me explaining how to do it. The bluetooth range is good enough, allowing me to have it in the bathroom, taking a shower while my phone is in my room. It is not until i go to a different floor that i start hearing interferences due to being too far. I use it almost every day, i’ve had it for two months and i have only charged it twice. The only thing that i’m missing is a button that would act as next track, as well as one for play/pause.

Great sound for a such a small speaker, quickly connected to my iphone. No distortion in music even at full volume very portable. Was so impressed i bought another one so i could pair them up. Connected both easily and now can play music through two like surround sound. Great gift for my younger sister at university who didn’t want to buy an expensive and bigger set of speakers for halls.

This is the second of these that i’ve bought (as gifts), as it is so good. Sound quality is very good, volume is excellent and it is very well made, as you would expect from sony. It is very easy to use and connects with devices immediately. Charges well and the charge lasts a good time. Good colours, too – i love the red.

This was a present for my niece and she reports that it is an excellent bluetooth speaker.

It sounds exceptionally good for its size – and better than the fairly expensive radios i have around the house. I found it sounded best when suspended from the silicone rubber loop (eg from a door handle) rather than sitting on a solid surface.

Good sound for a small device. Charge doesn’t last for a long time (thought it’s not bad – perhaps a couple of hours). Overall worth it though – glad i bought it.

Sony SRS-XB10 Compact Portable Wireless Speaker : Excellent little speaker

The sound quality from such a small unit is incredible. Very loud and incredibly easy to use. Has a jack input as well as the bluetooth connection.

Great little bluetooth speaker with good battery life, might buy a second one so i can link them and enjoy my music in proper stereo. Looks and feels sturdy, like it could easily survive being dropped on the ground a few times. I’m careful though so can’t confirm that.

I bought a new kindle fire as my old one was playing up but with the volume at maximum i could hardly hear my music when i was in the shower so i bought this speaker after reading a review in pc mag. I am thoroughly satisfied with it. The sound quality is excellent and pairing it to my kindle was very easy.

Solid and compact construction. Rubberized and well-secured input ports. Superb sound quality very nice bass for such a small speaker. Superb option to work in stereo mode wirelessly with the second speaker, super. The sony company did a great job and it appeared on the market of wireless portable speakers in my opinion. I’ve tested one of the company’s speakers before and it did not impress me. This is something else, it still can not compete with my bose soundlink mini, but it is a different price range. I really recommend this speaker.

Have used it around the house, in work and for drinks in the house. Battery life is great, sound quality is amazing, not as loud as i thought it would be, but it’s still great. Friends always ask me to bring it with me. I have and would recommend it, it’s a perfect little bluetooth speaker.

This speaker provides volume and clarity across the audio range. The extra bass is not boomy leaving mid-range and high range frequencies unchallenged.

Took it skiing for a week, used it in morning and evenings. Didn’t test the waterproofness but the build and material suggest it would be fine. Good sound quality and very loud for size.

I have two of these now and took them on holiday ,nice to able to hook them up in stereo i. Have one for the left channel and have the other for the right channel, and they link together wirelessly. Battery life is excellent, and sound qaulity is very good for such a small speaker.

Really impressive full, clear sound given its size and the build quality is great. Pairing it with a bluetooth device is super easy too. Plus i also read that you can add an extra one and have stereo sound.

Just listening to beach slang and then quiet slang. One punk as hell the other quiet and stripped back. The sound of this wee music bomb 💣 is superb.

Bought this as a gift but has been used nearly every day since i bought it. Sound quality excellent, volume great. Extremely portable and wipe clean (got very dirty after a weekend in a football bag but wiped easily with baby wipes.

Bought this for my dad for his birthday, he loves it. The sound quality is quite good as well. It’s not that loud, but also quite loud considering the sound of the speakers. I can’t speak for the durability yet, but we’re happy so far :).

I waited six months from when these speakers were announced to when they are available. The speaker is amazing, with incredible depth of sound.

Excellent sound quality for the size and price. We use it in a kitchen while we work, where the restaurant we work has loud music, and when we use it we can only listen the music we want to play. We have tried other brands as well, but the specific one has the best sound quality.

This is a well-made, high-quality product, and is easy to set up and use. Overall sound quality is good, but the clarity of the top range is disappointing. However, i am an audiophile, listening to music mostly on cds, so if you’re used to listening to lower-quality compressed file formats, such as mp3s, you may not notice the difference.

Easy to connect to, battery lasts a long time and sound is very good considering its size. I do find it sounds better when placed upright and not on its side. Maybe that is a personal opinion though.

I’m using the speaker for more than a month. Easy to carry anywhere, perfect size and good looking. Nfc works fast for pairing with my android smartphone. When you get a call, it sounds your ringtone but after receiving the call, it automatically goes silent. Sound is very clear and has good volume. But for people like me who are extreme bass lover, it won’t satisfy that much. Lastly, it’s body is coated with some kind of rubber for water resistance which is a dirt-catcher.

These little sony bluetooth speakers are good for those on a budget,or who like going abroad on holiday where you can’t pack big speakers in hand or main luggage. Plus you wouldn’t have to worry about the weight restrictions because these speakers are quite lightweight so no problem’s there. For the size and price these speakers sound pretty good. They do get a little distorted at the max volume and they are not overly loud. But at this price point you can’t complain to much. I got to of these and paired them together in stereo mode which was very easy to do, and yes they sound much better like that. One playing the left channel and the other the right. When you turn off one of these speakers it automatically turn off the other one as well. Over all not bad speakers for price of 36 pounds. Ok they may be no where near in the same league of speakers such like the bose’s and jbl, but these speakers cost a lot more money, and would you want the risk of losing these type of speakers abroad on holiday.

One of the best small speakers i’ve heard, and i have got ones much more expensive. Powerful and natural, at a great price.

Good sound, gets quite loud. Only negative thing is that it tends to move a lot when there is a lot of bass in a track, so you’ve just got to keep an eye on it so it doesn’t shuffle off the table. Otherwise, great sound and nice design.

Plenty of volume and easy to set up. Great sounds too despite dinky size.
