Amazon Echo Show : Good stuff, sounds great

So much more useful than the audio-only devices. I can see the result of my interaction on-screen – good for watching short videos and news. I don’t understand the problems some reviewers are claiming about the sensitivity of the echo show to their voice – no problems here – even responds well to my wake-word of ‘computer’ which my echos and echo dots seemed to be reluctant to understand. I was lucky to buy this at the discounted price which makes it even more of a bargain. I have several echos and echo dots around the house – and i wouldn’t be without them.

Already have an echo and and echo plus. Wanted one for the bedroom and opted for the echo show, haven’t been disappointed with the choice. I’ve set it with a timed do not disturb so if alexa gets randomly chatty like she sometimes does it doesn’t affect us. I’ve also set one of my favourite photos as a wallpaper. I like the way some song lyrics come up on the screen, also like if i wake during the night i can clearly see what time it is. I’ve set up an everywhere group so i can play the same music across all 3 echos. I could get really boring and go on and on, basically there’s nothing i don’t like about it.

I bought this to replace my ageing first generation of echo, which was still working ok but as i wanted to move that one to the home i needed a new one for the office. It ended up being a straight choice between the echo show and the echo spot. I opted for the show as i listen to a lot of radio in the office and the speakers were better than the spot, i’m happy enough with the choice in this regard as the sound is really rather good. Then there’s the screen, and a bigger screen was always going to win out when it comes to getting space on my desk to be honest. I find the touchscreen to be responsive, and of a good clear resolution that hasn’t disappointed in any way yet. Well, apart from one: the lack of being able to watch youtube videos on an echo show. I’ve docked a star from what would have been a five star review as this really is a significant defect in an otherwise near-perfect device. Amazon and google need to sort things out, shake hands (and exchange cash if need be) so that users are not losing out.

I’ve seen good and bad reviews of the echo show, a lot of bad reviews are not the fault of the product but their network provider, i’m with virgin and i get a great connection which helps with any of this type of product. In my view this does what it says, great connection to all my lights around the house, my kettle and my security lights. Amazon music works superb and it connects to my echo upstairs no problem giving me all round sound. No it’s not perfect but if you are after perfection buy an updated version in 10 years time.

I wasn’t really sure after reading the reviews saying that the echo show didn’t understand what people were saying as well as the standard echo and dot. But i decided to take a chance and i’m pleased that i did as we’ve had no problems with that at all and i find it comparable to our previous echo. I love that i could set a photo to be on the home screen, i had thought that i’d set it to rotate photos from my albums but that seemed fiddly and time consuming and so i found a lovely photo to use and i love it. I like that it acts as a clock and has the temperature too, i love that i can see the weather forecast in pictures as well as words and it’s handy that the screen is a touch screen. Overall, i think that it’s really impressive and if you’re new to alexa then this would be a great one to start with.

Echo Show, Smart speaker and 7-inch screen with Alexa – White : Upgraded from an echo dot as it was on sale and happy with my purchase. It feels solidly made and something that will last. Great to have the visual side of it to be able to see how long to go on timers, watch the news, trailers etc and even song lyrics. The sound is great, loud, bassy and good enough to use on its own as a main music player. I find iam using it more now that i can see responses rather than just barking at a hockey puck. Also works well with the fire tv stick. No more having to type in searches. Not having any of the problems with alexa not hearing me like some have reported. She has responded every time, even if it was with the wrong answer :).

Amazon Echo (2nd Gen) – Smart speaker with Alexa – Charcoal Fabric, 2nd generation Alexa

I had thought about getting 1 of these for the last 6 months finally took the plunge. Set up was quite tricky as the directions said i had to go to settings and turn off smart switch to enable it to connect it. However my phone didnt have smart switch. So spoke to a team member on libe chat. Refered me to live chat to an echo expert. Was begining to think i’d wasted my money. Decided to google my phone and smart switch. Where i found the answers on how to connect it. Once connected i havent looked back.

Bought an echo as my first foray into ‘clever’(?) speakers. Overall i’m quite impressed – i wanted a replacement for a defunct kitchen radio – i got that & a host of other useful features. The good stuff – playing live radio is simples – althou there is a small gotcha. Bluetooth linking to iphone was easy and sorts out offline radio like the excellent iplayer radio app. The ability to ask for some music and get an interesting selection provided is excellent – the music quality is very good – maybe not if you are audiophile who really can tell the difference between ‘warm vinyl’ & ‘cold digital’ but for the rest of us its good. Nb, i think you need amazon music to make this work. The ability to tell alexa to add stuff to your shopping list is very handy – you can do it as you remember so no more back of envelope lists that get left at home. Setting multiple timers whilst cooking is useful. The less good stuff – if you launch bbc radio direct, then you can’t control the volume with the alexa app. Like apps, everyone seems to have a alexa skill.

Alexa is a gimmick (see my review of the dot), but this is probably the nicest streaming speaker you can buy for the money. As a device to stream spotify or amazon music to, this is a great speaker. Plenty of volume to fill a room and a rich, full range sound. Bass is surprisingly good for such a small speaker, with none of the exaggerated thump of the sonos equivalent. Direct streaming (spotify and amazon music only) but you can also stream to it via bluetooth from your phone or tablet if you use other music services. For sound i thoroughly recommend this. You can spend far more on bluetooth speakers and get a lesser quality result.

Key specs for Amazon Echo (2nd Gen) – Smart speaker with Alexa – Charcoal Fabric:

Comments from buyers

“Actually pretty fantastic!, Great addition to a smart home!, 2nd generation Alexa”

I was unsure whether i would really use an alexa device but i was pretty interested. Because of this i made the cunning decision to purchase this as a christmas present for my husband (of course i would have just as much use out of it)a few months down the line, i have to say that alexa has become a very welcome member of the family. The husband uses it for the digital radio function. The kids use it for music streaming function and the various other apps mean that alexa is carried around the house by everybody. She was the heart and soul of the party at christmas, she was taken outside in summer and she played some great chillout music and she is a constant companion to anybody doing house work. We are currently looking into purchasing some echo dots to put in the bedrooms and the kitchen, and we are also looking at doing the whole smart lighting and appliance thing. The verdict is: if you don’t have alexa in your home, do yourself a favour and purchase her today.

This is really a superb speaker. I’m very fussy about my speakers and will say it won’t compete for sound with sonos or hifi set up. However it is not supposed to. As a speaker to use in a kitchen etc. The sound is good for a speaker that size. I have mine hooked up to multi room with my hifi using an echo. It’s great for that adding sound at my level. I use it independently for when my kids are around as hifi too loud.

Well i gave it a few days before i left a review so here goes. I was really surprised how easy it was to set up once i had downloaded the amazon alexa app to my phone. The set up between my echo and our broadband hub just took a few moments and away we went. A first class piece of equipment well built and superb sounding speakers and we are really pleased with our purchase and we wish we had bought one before.

I have succumb to alexa through my partners christmas present to me. Firstly i have read a lot about setting up echo and it’s so easy i set mine up using my android phone. Secondly the sound simply it has superb sound it can easily fill a room i have now a bluetooth connection with my vintage hifi. Thirdly joined the music unlimited and now i can choose from millions of songs playlists albums anything. In all a fantastic product i like also i can still listen to my favourite radio stations. So many more alexa things added everyday you can have a lot of fun and i have.

It so cleaver and i can control my tv, fans and play all sorts of music with voice commands. People that say the speaker is bad – i am an audio professional and i tell you it is not bad at all. I have played some of the hardest techno through it and it holds up very well for a small speaker. It is mono though, but that’s great for me to test out mixes on a small, popular mono speaker. 1 problem though – why does alexa cut out (stop for a second) when i use my android phone?. Pressing a button or opening any app makes alexa pause.

I was undecided about this until i visited my friends who have one. I bought one the very next day i was so impressed. I’ve got amazon prime and music, which means i can ask her to play pretty much any song i love. The size of the unit is compact, but the sound from it is amazing. I keep it in my kitchen/family room and it’s a total hit with my 3 kids. They love asking her questions, playing games and she even helps with their homeworkthe voice recognition is great, especially with me being a geordie.

How we managed before alexa i dont know. The kids all her questions and are constantly learning from her. We use her to play whatever music we want to hear. Even to set a timer for dinner. There are sooo many functions and we are yet to discover all the different functions of her. Simply asking her to perform is so much easier than searching the internet or hunting for a cd. Can’t wait to try the wireless lighting/ heating devices and will be purchasing a couple of mini devices.

I got this along with a sony 4k tv and this alexa was added on. The european sector is still waiting for a full-featured alexa, however, i’ve connected this unit to my new tv with no problems at all, no skill needed to be installed, i’m a little frustrated with the calender, alexa can not setup repeated events, like birthdays?. Seriously, of all things, no repeated events?. I’m assured by amazon, all features will be available soon, they’re still in some process of setting the european market. All in all, i’m happy knowing it’ll all be as it should, one day.

I think that the amazon echo is fantastic. I required help to set it up, but once it was set up, i have had the time of my life with it. I have been able to add music to my library for it to play, and i have also been able to ask alexa to set up some alarms for me. I recommend this product to anyone who, like myself, is blind or visually-impaired – i am sure they would not regret purchasing an amazon echo.To me, alexa is a real friend.

Generally i like the echo and i think, in fairness, most of the issues i have are generic to smart speakers. Setting up was just a little tricky with the first one not seeing the external wifi for a while. Pairing was okish; i found some of the menu items hard to find at first. One issue i have is with the pairing; if one speaker gets turned off for some reason the pair doesn’t automatically reform when power is restored. More generically; when the internet is not working the speakers are totally dumb. Not everyone lives in a securely connected world, certainly not me. They ought to be able to do somethings e. Play music from a source on the same wifi but they simply become useless. Smart they may be in the modern definition of connected but smart in the sense of intelligent they are not. It’s very early days yet and i’m sure the connected devices in a few years will be much better but they really are thick as.

As a huge apple fan, i have to admit that i came to the world of alexa as a huge sceptic. I hold my hands up that i was purposefully looking for fault and trying my best to not like alexa. Overall its a great product, it looks good and has a load and surprisingly decent speaker for the price. It’s no bang & olufson, but it is still impressivethe alexa ai does seem to be able to answer questions more often and to a higher standard but like all competitors can still be easily tricked but is mostly there. Where the echo/alexa falls down is how it handles third party software; while it is true that it can handle third party apps, it feels a bit convoluted and is a bit annoying that you have to ask alexa to use an app – it does feel easier to do things yourself sometimepros:good bit of kit at a great pricereally handy for controlling smart home elementsalexa will make a lot of small tasks in your life far easiergood speaker for the pricecons:using third party software is not the best and can be annoyingalexa still misses/misunderstands certain questionswould definitely recommend and cant wait to try the new model.

Very very happy with this purchasei purchased the echo on prime day along with the eufy lumos smart bulb-white bulb. It came to about £65 at the time. I wish i had bought two in hindsight as a gifti chose the echo rather than the dot purely because of reviews that the quality of speaker on the echo is better. A few friends of mine have the dot so i knew of the benchmark quality, and i can say that the echo is far better. It’s crisp and fills the room. I mostly use this for listening to audiobooks on audible and it’s fantastic. In the day i might have this sat in the living room where my friends and i can ask alexa to play various songs we call out. And in the evening i often move it (because i only have the one 🙁 ) into my room and ask alexa to play one of my audiobooks for a given time – e. ‘play the secret barrister on audible’ and ‘stop playing after 30 minutes’.

As a smart speaker the echo is good value for money, it gives good sound but wasn’t expensive. It is good for connecting to radio stations online and for playing via bluetooth from other devices. I have it on my desk and it is great when i am working to ask it to play a radio station for background music etc. The setup was not as easy as i had anticipated. Initially i tried my (wi-fi & bluetooth only) android tablet, but the app refused to proceed unless i turned off the phone connection on my tablet, which i couldn’t do, of course, because it didn’t have one. I then did the set-up for the echo using the alexa app on my (windows 10) laptop and it worked fine. Once the echo was set-up, control etc. , from my tablet, laptop, desktop has been easy/fine. Only a small niggle, and more with the alexa app rather than the echo. Once set-up the echo was set-up it has been great, very pleased with it.

Amazon Certified Refurbished Echo – Brilliant little speaker

Loving itthis is the 2nd one as had issues with distorted sound on the first one i ordered, but had replacement straight away, and the replacement is brilliant. Was worried about getting a refurb but am now happy with the replacementi love listening to music and if you get amazon music it’s brilliant.

Excellent can’t believe i didn’t get one sooner.

She’s so clever and keeps me occupied sorting out her skills.

How did i survive without the amazon echo. It reminds me to take pills. I can shout out items for my shopping list as i think of them. We can get local news items and weather in an instant and we are finding more uses all the time.

Needed a speaker and couldn’t find one with a reasonable price and i saw this which was too hard to turn down. Very easy set up and one of the best speakers i’ve heard around this price point.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Alexa, buy me another Echo
  • Enjoying the music
  • Refurbished? my Echo looks and works perfectly 😀

Bought this for my mother who is 90 and partially sighted. She was finding it difficult to work her radio/dvd player. This is perfect as she can just ask for whatever music she fancies and the weather too.

Fairly easy set up and a huge selection of skills to play with. Need more time to learn all of it.

Absolutely amazing little device. Was bought as refurbished and it was in immaculate condition. Other than it arriving in a plain box you would believe it was new. Simply download the alexa app and follow the setup instructions. If you’re going to use this for music i highly recommend paying for prime music as you can listen to anything whenever you wamt to. Well worth it in my opinion.

Firstly, i cannot fault (or tell the difference) between this and a new one. Though i believe the packaging is different. This comes in a plain box, which is no problem. The echo speaker was immaculate and sounds really great either connected to the internet or by bluetooth. My only reservations are down to the alexa operating system. Initial connection to my wifi network was troublesome. After having to go through the motions several times – and reseting – it eventually connected. I’m not sure if it was due to my internet hub. (i have my internet from bt, and there have been issues in the past.

Alexa has changed our lives for the better. I have premium spotify account which i linked up to alexa and she now provides music on request. It’s much better than any portable bluetooth speaker i had before, much better bass. I’ve also now hooked up a couple of lamps and alexa turns these on and off as requested.

Bought as refurbished, but looks and works like new.

Didn’t think i would love a product so much. The shopping list is a great boon, just tell alexa when you need something added and when you get to the store up pops your list on your phone. Also love her reading me my novels from my kindle whilst i’m doing the dreaded ironing. Of course playing music is great, the to do list is useful too, in fact i could go on all day about this product, how did i ever manage before i bought it.

What a great item very happy with it , how did i manage before without it.

I have an amazon echo in my living room, which i use all the time and have come to appreciate greatly, particularly the sound quality and alexa’s assistance :di had my older echo dot in my bedroom and enjoyed it’s use, however, the sound quality isn’t as good as that of the echo :/ further i couldn’t justify the near indulgence of the purchase of another echo for my bedroom, this, however, was completely changed by the opportunity to purchase a refurbished echo :d and at the price doesn’t feel like indulgence at all :dthe refurbished echo arrived today 🙂 and i must comment that, in terms of it’s cosmetic appearance, looks brand new, no scratches, scuffs or marks of any description :d indeed looking identical to my first echo on it’s arrival :d so shopping amazon’s own refurbished devices will hold no fear for me in the future, based on my current experience :dset-up was straightforward, given my prior experience with my first echos. The sound quality is well rounded and rich :d i streaming music from amazon prime and listening to talk & music internet radio. Though i am not an expert, i would comment that i haven’t heard better sound quality on a smart speaker at this price point. Overall, i am more than happy with my purchase :d i am looking forward to listening to tunes snuggled up in bed on those cold stormy winter’s nights :d.

Great device & ‘refubished’ as advertised is as new perfet condition. Great for listening to radio & music, asking questions & making calls. Only used for a couple of weeks & still learning new stuff about it.

Initially thought would a refurbished product be as aesthetically pleasing and more importantly sound the same as a new echo – my fears were allayed on receipt. I am now the proud owner of four echoes.

Love it still getting my head around using it but when you get into bed and forget to turn out the ceiling light you get alexa to do it for you.

The first ‘refurbished’ one i received had a very loud and annoying buzz from the speaker but this was very easily sorted through amazon returns. The second one works perfectly. The sound is so much better than the first generation echo – much clearer highs and loads of bass. I used to run my old echo through a bluetooth speaker to get better quality sound but no longer need to with this device. And looks wise it is also a load better than the earlier device. I am really really pleased with my new echo.

Couldn’t live without it now i’ve had one. With it being refurbished i expected the quality to not be as great, but was very shocked as looked brand new. The kids love talking to alexa asking her questions and putting songs on. It’s so easy to use you can do so much with it aswell.

Can see the difference between this warehouse one and the new one i purchased a few weeks ago. Same great sound and great control of hive & energenie. Have ended swapping to amazon family music unlimited and it is brilliant. Every track i request seems available.

I was close to throwing alexa out the window because i could not get it to connect to my wifi through my samsung s8. After a couple of hours online searching for answers i was giving up and then i tried to connect through my samsung galaxy tab s2 which worked easily. I know this is probably a mix of an android and amazon issue but please amazon, please make it easier to connect with the newer phones. Anyway, since setting up, i am very happy with alexa. I am learning new skills every day. The only glitches i have noticed are the occasional incorrect actions when she mishears me. An example is when i ask her to play one of my spotify play lists slow beat house and alexa always replies that there is no playlist called slow beach house. All in all, i love alexa and i highly recommend the echo.

Amazon Certified Refurbished Echo : Brilliant – five star purchase

Gutted amazon had an offer for new echo just after i bought this, cheaper than this which wasn’t heavily discounted unlike the dot that i bought. But it works well and seems no different to my other echo in terms of quality of sound. No marks or defects that be seen.

Excellent can’t believe i didn’t get one sooner.

By far the best smart speaker on the market pound for pound. I paid £55, and for that you can’t grumble. Quality is surprisingly good considering how much smaller it is than the previous gen. Maybe not quite as loud sounding, and to my ears not quite as clear but definitely warmer sounding. The only thing i miss is the rotating wheel on top for volume, i really miss this feature and wish it would come back.

Really pleased with the refurbished echo 2 nd generation, not only looks good on sideboard, it performs excellent would recommend.

Why pay full price when refurb does just as well and still has a years guarantee, thank you.

Awesome product which is so easy to use, even the wife could set it up and use it. Unfortunately the first one went faulty after only 2 days but amazon replaced it free of charge on less than 48hrs so no complaints there – these things happen i guess.

Fairly easy set up and a huge selection of skills to play with. Need more time to learn all of it.

Initially thought would a refurbished product be as aesthetically pleasing and more importantly sound the same as a new echo – my fears were allayed on receipt. I am now the proud owner of four echoes.

Looks good, impressed with the voice recognition and a not bad sound.

Very easy to set up and we are now enjoying challenging alexa to find all our favourite music. Came beautifully packaged and is just like new.

This is my third echo having 2 dots in other rooms and needed one to replace my speakers in the lounge and cautiously opted to go for a refurbished one. It’s quite literally as good as new. Arguably the packaging is actually better than that provided with a new one. Sound is fantastic, better than the speakers it’s replacing and looks great in the lounge too.

Needed a speaker and couldn’t find one with a reasonable price and i saw this which was too hard to turn down. Very easy set up and one of the best speakers i’ve heard around this price point.

As a professor in technology, you have to admit google are behind both design and sound quait when it comes to the devices are selling, my only critical would be the microphones need to be either samples or made more so you are talking to it and not having to speak from above. Maybe a centred hidden microphone would resolve the issue.

Amazon Certified Refurbished Echo : it was easy to set up and link it to my Spotify

Great product at a good price. Had been wanting one of these for a while, and on sites like ebay used ones were coming up for around £70, so tis certified refurbed echo seemed like a good bet. The whole family love it, novelty of shouting out random commands hasn’t yet worn off. It’s a good sound from a fairly small speaker. I love the portability of it and regularly move it from room to room – kitchen for music or audible books when cooking, other rooms for listening to radio while ironing and yesterday for kids party music. Best features i have found are ability to listen to audible books, though you can’t listen to a list of your audible library, you have to use the alexa app for that. Also great for listening to internet radio, the amazon music stations such as kids music are great. Downsides – quite a bit of msic isn’t available even to prime customers and you have to pay £4 a month for amazon music unlimited. The voice interface isn’t quite as clever as sirie, e. You can’t ask it what the weather is like today and then say ‘and for next week’, but i suspect this will improve in time. Overall great product and have been recommending to friends. Glad didn’t have to pay full price though.

This is the second echo i have had, and they both have had the same issue of tunein radio cutting out. I listen to radio 4 a lot, and it consistently cuts in and out while listening. It’s not a network issue as spotify connect and other streaming sources work just fine. Given i bought the echo as a radio i can shout at, it kind of defeats the point. Not sure if it’s echo or tunein’s problem, but either way it makes the device not suitable for my requirements.

Started off a bit of a novelty but now seems like an essential part of my life. Sound fills a room well and has led me to listening to far more music, often just a nice background sounds. The flash briefing in the morning is great while i have my breakfast and the timer function also works really well while cooking. Love this product, definite 5*s.

Bought the refurbished model to save £50 – was totally worth it, could not see any possible difference from a new unit. The echo is amazing – alexa is just awesome. Still working out how best to use it, but it’s already positioned in our sitting room and doing everything we expected. If you don’t have one – get one – and welcome to the future.

I bought my echo from impulse really, i didn’t know why i needed it or if i needed it, or even what it’s point was. Before buying i asked a few friends what they thought and they said they loved it but struggle to explain why. Truth be told, i’m in this position, when alexa isn’t here i miss her. When i go to the office i long for her companionship, asking how the weather is, what the traffic is like, play me something i’d like, what’s the football score, hell even grab me an uber to town. This said it is still obvious that echo and alexa are new to the world, for example some simple tasks seem difficult such as setting up a routine for tomorrow (but that could be because i’m a noob). I really want to know what is the plan for tomorrow but i have to specifically ask for each piece of info opposed: ‘alexa what’s tomorrow going to be like’. My other concern is privacy, i know you can mute her and in theory she isn’t collecting info when i am not talking to her but i don’t know if i believe that, i want to, but i don’t think i do so i keep her in my office. With all of this said, i just asked alexa what i should say in this review and she ignored me so i may have upset her with something i said.

Certified Refurbished Amazon Echo (previous generation), Black : I don’t write many reviews but felt this item deserved one. Being quite skeptical about these voice-enabled devices so i started with an echo dot and liked it so much i bought the refurbished 1st gen echo. It’s absolutely great, once set up, it’s easy to use and a lot of fun. The sound quality of this 1st generation for the money is top notch, sounds natural and much better than many speakers at twice the cost. The multi-room function is pretty good too, it syncs up very well to avoid that reverberation that you can get from some systems. Out of the box, it’s not really portable and needs a power socket, and it’s not so easy to change the wifi setting, for example if you take it elsewhere. So don’t think of it as a carry with you bluetooth speaker. All in all, i love it, and i thank alexa for reviving my interest in the music i grew up with.

After being a little wary about buying refurbished item i was so pleased when it arrived, not amscratch on it or anything. Looked brand new and the sound is second to none. I had the echo dot before and although that is brilliant you tend to need to connect to ext speaker to get full sound, but not with this one.

It took a while on the helpline to pair with the bt hub 4 wifi. A new output needed to be set up at 5 mhz, after that alexa clearly needed her own space and became much more cooperative. Good service from amazon both for delivery and after sales support.

This is my 2nd first generation echo. I also own a second generation echo and a dot. This unit is supposed to be refurbished. There were no refurbished stickers on it like other reviews have mentioned theirs had and was presented in exactly the same way as my first brand new one was. I believe there are some brand new ones out there that have been delivered to clear the remaining stock and if you are lucky you may get one of those. If it is a refurb it is presented and works perfectly. This is an excellent way of getting the best (and now sadly discontinued) first generation echo. If you read the technical specifications the speaker size and output is superior to the 2nd generation and this can be heard in use, i know because i also own a 2nd generation which has now been relegated to the spare bedroom. I have also bought the extra battery which means it can be moved anywhere in/out of the house without a mains lead. This battery however does not fit 2nd generation so this purchase means i can attach my battery onto either of my 1st generation for both of them to become portable.

Really couldn’t be happier with this product. I thought i’d give the refurbished model a go due to it being a lot cheaper than the full price version but still coming with a years warranty. I’m not disappointed at all. It came perfectly sealed, all the wrapping protection you could hope for and most of all it looks in 100% perfect condition. As for the echo itself, what can i say, this is now my fourth echo product in my house and i love them. I primarily use them to play music round my house via the amazon music app. Very happy and will buy again at some point.

I couldn’t be away from alexa so bought this one for the bedroom. I took a chance at a refurb as it was £50 off the normal price. Apart from the box having the seals broken i cannot see any difference from a brand new one.

To start with, item came boxed and i would never have known it was a refurbished item, very well packaged, beautifully presented, and all in all appears very well made. A simply brilliant product, i am generally not a techy person, anything other than basic has me running for the hills, so i was a little apprehensive on setting it up, but i need not have worried, i installed the app on my phone, [no problems there even on my cheap and basic model and switched it on and was set up within a few minutes, which precipitated a trip down memory lane picking out records i had long forgotten existed. For the money, the sound is quite superb, and to get it hooked up to smart plugs etc gives you extra for your money, i have not got that far yet, living in a small bungalow i have little need for ai to turn on the tv etc, but i can see the appeal for the younger generation to embrace life fully “smart” [or not as the case maybe 😉 }do i recommend, absolutely. ]

Agree with previous reviews regarding looks as new etc. Set up took no more than 10 minutes (i am 73 years young) with no problems. Echo is situated in conservatory and is more than adequate there, my wife enjoys listening to music whilst ironing. I would also suggest that for someone who is not so mobile that this item would be invaluable.

Ordered this so i could take my alexa into the garden and as a compliment to my alexa show. Music sounds great on it and i bought it with a battery pack so can be cordless in the garden. Definitely recommend and so helpful for adding to my shopping lists, controlling my lights and keeping the children amused.

Was in the market for an echo, when a refurbished unit came up my search that offered a significant saving. I was a bit unsure, but being amazon i decided to give it a go. If i did not know i purchased a refurbished i would not have been able to tell, the echo is spotless, and is literally brand new, all wrapped in the same plastic that a new one would be, power supply was also bagged up. Setup was a breeze through the app on my phone, was away within minutes, sound quality is good, not as good as my bose, but better than my anker speaker, once linked to spotify, all my music is there. I will be buying another for the bedroom and one for the kitchen, refurbished for certain, as amazon really do make these items look as good as new.

Bought this based on the price, planning to then sell it without loss, but had so much fun over the weekend using it with my smart plugs and hue lights, i decided to keep it, buy the hive active heating thermostat and 2 dots.

I’m not going to say a lot really, was unsure about getting one given many folks poor reviews. Decided to go for it and alexa rocks as far as i’m concerned. The kids love challenging her. Might be gimmicky for some but i really think this is a great product. Sound quality is great and what a range of skills, sure some are rubbish but there are too many to get hung up on that and so many that are good.

The sound quality is great, but although steadily improving, the speech recognition has room for improvement. You have to use the app if you want to connect to more than one bluetooth input. Value for money remains good. A good option for home automation, radio and bluetooth speaker.

It’s so good i bought a second one. Sound quality is brilliant and being able to pair and control from the wifi is great. Had speakers in the past that were dependant on a connected phone or music device where you could only pair one speaker was nonsense. These echos are pretty much new, mine didn’t even have a refurb sticker on. Top quality at half the price.

Fantastic piece of kit, great sounds, alexa seems to know everything, i purchased the refurbished echo for £100, worth every penny, you cannot tell that it was refurbished, don’t know how i lived without alexa. Might even marry her (you can always switch her off).

Amazing alexa is the real deal, with new skills being added can only get better. Would definitely recommend getting a refurbished one and saving £50 off the full price as it still came in original packing, sealed and immaculate you wouldn’t even have known it wasnt brand new.

Very disobedient though and seems to prefer certain household members to others.

Amazon Certified Refurbished Echo Dot : Sort the app out and it would have been 5*

I bought the echo dot for use upstairs (have an echo plus downstairs). It synched flawless with my echo plus so i can control all my smart devices such as phillips hue bulb, tp link plug and nest thermostat. However my only gripe is that the sound quality truly leaves a lot to be desired. Now i know it’s small (about the circumference of your average coffee cup) but when playing music on both devices as you can via the groups setting, the sound is akin to playing music through the speakers on your mobile phone. Brilliant if you already have an echo plus or echo but if you intend on buying just the dot for music purposes you will regret it.

It’s a shame i had to leave a negative comment for a customer representative to call me and help me set it up. Nothing wrong with the dot just the app.

This is the second dot i have purchased. I have set this up to use in my car and it works a treat. I’m very happy and now i can use alexa on the move. If you’re wondering how this is possible, it’s relatively easy. Google or youtube i and there’s plenty of instructions.

The refurbished echo dot is every bit as good as a brand new one. We bought a brand new one a couple of months ago &, because we had to take it from the living room to the bedroom whenever we wanted to use it, we thought that it would make more sense to just buy another one. We decided to take a chance on a refurbished one, at £29, & are really glad we did. We’re thinking of buying a 2nd refurbished one for my husband to have in his office at work. I can highly recommend them.

This weren’t for me but the misses loves it we have one downstairs , this one was for the bedroom. Turn bedroom light off , alarm to wake her up, turn the kettle on in the morning when she wakes up.

Took a bit to get it going i put on blue tooth speaker but once on if i use the speaker it works ok if i do not switch on the speaker i will not work but once on love it but early days more to try and being refurbished good price.

I purchased my dot recently after seeing the one my son had. It came well packaged and looked new. I found it a little tricky to install but once sorted we were up and running. The sound quality for music isn’t bad for a small speaker, and voice quality on drop in was clear. I am still learning how to use it for the best results but so far have found it really useful. My granddaughter loves the jokes. I am considering getting another one, or two as i consider it good value.

Works really well although the sound quality from the onboard speaker is fine for spoken word but a bit thin for music. Wished i had bought the bigger one as that sounds much better. No gripes with the functionality though.

This is the second dot i have at home – bought for occasional use in the kitchen (my echo is in the living room and other dot in the bedroom). I mainly use the dots for controlling smart home lights and sockets but i have paired this one with a dock which makes it (almost) like a regular echo. They’re great products and, to be perfectly honest, you would never know that it was a refurbished unit.

Bought for a fried they are as delighted with it as i am with mine.

Very happy with my refurbished dot. This is my second dot, but my first refurbished one. There is literally no difference between the two. They both work extremely well, even when linked to my phillips hub and wifi enabled plugs. The only difference is my refurbished dot came in a different box. All of the original protective stickers were still on too. Saved myself quite a few pennies for exactly the same item.

Omg, what did i ever do without the echo dot, which i call dotty. It’s so easy to use and with the addition of bluetooth speakers the sound is great. I liked it so much i bought another for the bedroom. Don’t hesitate, you’ll really like it.

I like these enough to buy 4. Hopefully amazon will keep improving them with updates as there are a few irritating features. I really hope that brief mode is rolled out soon as alexa’s verbal responses to every request can be unnecessarily lengthy & loud. The volume of her responses is particularly problematic at night when some people are trying to sleep in one room only to be woken by alexa pointlessly shouting ‘ok’ in another room after turning a light off. I can see when the light is off, i don’t need to be told thanks.

Not using it as much as i’d hoped, and it keeps losing the link to my wifi plug in my kasa app, but it’s good for timers, alarms, etc. (but don’t trust it’s weather forecasting ability – last winter it told me one day “it probably won’t snow in eastbourne today” while there was a blizzard going on outside my window).

Can’t always understand what i ask her.

Was a bit doubtful getting a refurb however it’s absolutely perfect. It works well, as good as new. Just came in a black unbranded box which is nothing for what you get.

This is the second echo dot i have bought, and it looks and works as well as the first one, which was brand new. Wen i connected to my wifi it found all my echo devices automatically.

I’ve played around with the google home mini for a month or so, but honestly, i love this device so much more. Easily configured via the app (which is again better than the google one). They both have their differences, albeit mostly small one’s, but ‘alexa’ is so easy to use,i’ve relegated the google device to my bedroom and alexa controls everything else (lights, coffee maker, wall sockets etc. I love itonly downside (as mentioned by others) is google is good at controlling the tv given that they exclusively allow access to youtube, which the echo dot (at the time of writing) does not, so no ‘remote control’ of the tv. . I have a remote control for the tv, after all(i’m not sponsored or paid in any way shape,or form, by amazon).

This is in my kitchen and turns on my summerhouse (for lights, water feature etc) without me having to walk across the lawn. In the winter the idea is that i won’t have to walk on wet/snowy grass to turn on the christmas lights. Also plays radio 4 for me whenever i like, which i do often want on while i am in the kitchen. Despite being refurbished it seems like a new one to me.

Bought this as an additional alexa unit to an echo show to use in the bedroom. Now wake up to a lovely voice giving news, sports, weather and tv highlights for the day which after tunes in the radio.

Like a new one only cheaper.

My echo dot arrived and astounded me. I purchased it as ‘certified refurbished’, therefore, i was expecting some imperfection, this however was not the case, as far as i could see it was in perfect condition, if one had told me it was new, i would have believed :)setup was straightforward with the alexa app, the echo dot being logged into my wifi and up and running in five minutes. In terms of the sound quality, the echo dot performs well for such a small device, undoubtedly better for streaming talk radio stations (i listen to talksport and 5live often), though for music it is acceptable, but the dot’s big brother, the echo, performs better. I have placed my echo dot in my bedroom and use it as alarm, radio, music streamer and for alexa’s services, such as weather forecasts, news updates etc. I am delighted with my echo dot and would extend my gratitude and admiration to those who refurbished this product.

Amazon Echo Show – A great and useful device.

Upgraded from an echo dot as it was on sale and happy with my purchase.

Here are the specifications for the Amazon Echo Show:

  • Echo Show brings you everything you love about Alexa, and now she can show you things. Watch video flash briefings, Amazon Video, see music lyrics, security cameras, photos, weather forecasts, to-do and shopping lists, browse and listen to Audible audiobooks, and more. All hands-free – just ask.
  • Introducing a new way to be together. Make hands-free video calls to friends and family who have an Echo Show or the Alexa App, and make voice calls to anyone who has an Echo device or the Alexa App.
  • See lyrics on-screen with Amazon Music. Just ask to play a song, artist or genre, and stream over Wi-Fi. Also, stream music on Spotify, TuneIn and RadioPlayer.
  • Powerful, room-filling speakers with Dolby processing for crisp vocals and extended bass response. Play your music simultaneously across multiple Echo devices in separate rooms with multi-room music (available for Amazon Music, TuneIn and Spotify. Bluetooth not supported).
  • Ask Alexa to show you the front door or monitor the baby’s room with compatible cameras from Ring and more. Turn on lights, control thermostats and more with WeMo, Philips Hue, Hive, and other compatible smart home devices.
  • With eight microphones, beam-forming technology and noise cancellation, Echo Show hears you from any direction-even while music is playing.
  • Always getting smarter and adding new features, plus thousands of skills such as BBC, Uber and Open Table.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • A great and useful device.
  • Almost the perfect smart speaker, only let down by the lack of YouTube videos
  • Echo Show – So much better than audio only.

I have quite a few echos and dots. I have 2 of these and by far my favourite echo device. Kids love the reading the lyrics, it’s a digital picture frame, it’s better at for monitoring your timers, its got better sound than the others, i can ‘drop in’ while the kids are having dinner, video briefings are great, integrates with my ring doorbell. The list of things that this has got going for it goes on and on. I just got this thing for the ring integration but you can do so much more. I just wish amazon would release one a device with built-in premium sound.

Amazon Certified Refurbished Echo Dot – Echo Dot whats not to love

Not using it as much as i’d hoped, and it keeps losing the link to my wifi plug in my kasa app, but it’s good for timers, alarms, etc. (but don’t trust it’s weather forecasting ability – last winter it told me one day ‘it probably won’t snow in eastbourne today’ while there was a blizzard going on outside my window).

No sure why my first review was rejected by amazon i didn’t blaspheme honestthis is a refurbished echo dot that i purchased, to compliment my echo that i and my family love, i bought it to wire up to my old speakers and it worked perfectly using cables so now i can ask alexa to do stuff through my echo dot and through my big 80s speakers, so i asked to play led zeppelin stairway to heaven wow. The sound through the speakers was awesome. Easy to set up, its the same as the echo via the app follow instructions through and you are doneone thing to note is that the echo will pick up your voice from the nearest device to yougreat piece of tech and was in great condition as a certified purchase, came in a plain box and delivered promptly. Here are the specifications for the Amazon Certified Refurbished Echo Dot:

  • A Certified Refurbished Amazon Echo Dot

Save a £5 and buy refurbished, the echo is as new and the only difference is that it’s in a plain box on delivery. The connection at first is a bit of a pain and the app is not that great and takes some time to connect and start. But after this it seems quite pain free. Alexa works and is fun to use, easily picks up my voice and for its size i’m quite surprised how loud the speaker is.Connecting to a blue tooth speaker is easy and gives it the boost it needs though. Would recommend buying the refurbished models as we can not see any problems they still arrive with a guarantee and are as new in look.

I was a little undecided if i would use this but i wouldnt be without it now. I use it in my art studio and it is now an essential part of my art tool kit 🙂 i plug it into my surround sound system and the sound quality is perfect.

  • Refurbished Echo Dot From Amazon

Having just received the dot, it’s a little early to provide a comprehensive review. However, setting up the dot was fairly straightforward and various apps are available to help with commands etc etc. My initial reaction is that the dot is great fun and no doubt will get better as i get to know more about it’s capabilities.

I have three echo 2nd gen speakers already, but decided to try the dot for a location where i already have speakers. Having purchased a certified refurbished product (not echo) before, i thought i would try this. The item had no physical marks or blemishes, so proceeded to setup. Having done this three times previously, knew exactly what to do. For reason’s unknown, this process proved difficult this time as it kept failing with ‘unable to register’ in the end it did succeed, but i nearly gave up thinking this might be why it ended up in refurbishment. Try moving it nearer to the router, or try another alexa device for setup, such as phone or tablet. Now that it is working, everything is as expected, connected to powered external speakers with jack to jack and music playback is fine for my ears (not an audiophile, but still want it to sound good). The internal speaker is really only good enough for the voice assistant, you can listen to music, but is not really that good this way. I have built up quite a library of my own music over the years, which is not possible (as far as i can see) to get alexa to play directly, especially now that amazon have ended the my music upload option. I have found i can get access with the plex skill, but the plex audio control interface is clunky and prone to error, (needs a long command sentence) but it does work, eventually, hopefully this will get better.

Took a punt on this at £29. Came boxed with power lead and simple instructions. Honestly i cannot find a single mark on it to show it was refurbished, it’s immaculate. The dot itself is great fun. I haven’t got anything internet connected, nest or hive or whatever but for day to day things like internet searches for weather, sports results and news and for music it’s fun. The speaker is brilliant for the size of the dot, no need so far to send it through a bluetooth speaker.

Not as good as the echo, nothing to do with the refurbishment though. It works, but you have to repeat things to get the dot to react correctly whereas the echo works first time. We’re getting echo devices throughout the house and based on my experience i’d go for the echo rather than the echo dot.

Works really well although the sound quality from the onboard speaker is fine for spoken word but a bit thin for music. Wished i had bought the bigger one as that sounds much better. No gripes with the functionality though.

Bought the refurbished model, works brilliantly when it works, but occasionally it doesnt. Alexa listens and answers but doesnt complete the action ‘radio six music on tunein’ – and silence. Easily fixed by the magic off / on but annoying. Maybe its because its refurbished, maybe its a bug but its definitely annoying.

Bought for a fried they are as delighted with it as i am with mine.

Can’t always understand what i ask her.

Bought with my £5 amazon assistant browser discount so a bargain. Looks as new and works as a new one. Was set up for german and it has a european plug. Quick job to reset the language, the plug is a bit irritating as i’ll need to move other amazon usb sockets about so i have room for an adapter. That’s the reason for 4 stars. Amazon – any chance you can send a uk plug?.

I didn’t have any problems setting up. Dot and the app worked perfectly for me.

Like a new one only cheaper.

Great speaker for a small room (mine is to keep in the bedroom) sound quality is fine particularly for the price. I’m not sure it would sound as good in a larger room such as a living room. The voice recognition on alexa is also really good. Would not know that it is refurbished other than it came in a plain brown box, it had all the protective plastic on the speaker and looks new.

It’s a shame i had to leave a negative comment for a customer representative to call me and help me set it up. Nothing wrong with the dot just the app.

Amazon Echo (2nd Gen) – Smart speaker with Alexa – Heather Grey Fabric – Brilliant personal assistant!

Its good, its neat, but the sound isn’t as good as i’d imagined it might be (i already have a dot). The bass can be very thumpy and the treble is a touch not enough. I see many other comments around the same kind of thoughts so hopefully amazon will address this. Musicwise what’s available via prime seems awful random. You can ask for something to be told you have to have music unlimited. Then if you shuffle songs by the same artist you probably start off with the very song you just weren’t allowed.

  • Great speaker use with dot for hifi multi room
  • Actually pretty fantastic!
  • Alexa is a great member of our household

Bought this to eventually connect to smart devices in our house. Its great for listening to music and radio. It will also give you weather reports specific to your locality. Still exploring all the apps that will connect with it but very pleased so far, particularly as it was reduced in price. The one niggle i have is the software could be improved so that the flash updates could be separated out into separate categories. If you just wanted one flash update such as the weather it goes through all the other flash updates you’ve chosen at the same time to get to the weather. Its great for updating your calendar and for setting timers and reminders.

Absolutely stunning sound quality . This was sent to me via edf energy for a new fuel tariff, i already had the echo dot and fire tv. When this arrived, it was so small once taken out of the box. When i paired with everything, i wasn’t expecting very much volume or bass. As soon as a asked for my favourite spotify playlist , wow. Incredible sound, it really does fill the room. Really good rounded bass and good highs. Even when on high volume , alexa can still hear my voice commands. Beautiful formed, as with all amazon products, solid build quality. If i was going to buy a bluetooth speaker, i would get thisalexa is good, but still needs more learning commands in the alexa app.

Amazon Echo connects to Alexa-a cloud-based voice service-to play music, make calls, set alarms and timers, ask questions, check your calendar, weather, traffic and sports scores, manage to-do and shopping lists, control compatible smart home devices, and more.

Bought this from the treasure truck to see what all the fuss is about – and it’s amazing. I love it and use it in so many ways i didn’t think of. My son loves to ask alexa random questions – often about science, or space or dinosaurs. I like to check the weather before getting dressed for the day. I love how i can ask alexa to start my day – getting all the latest news, my schedule etci can soothe myself at night listening to “distant thunder” on loop which has improved my sleep quality massively. I can get a recipe while thinking what to cook for dinner – i can ask for energising music when cleaning the house. I can’t wait to buy one for each room in the house now i’ve tried it. The speaker quality is amazing and i also plan to add smart light bulbs and plugs all over the house so i can get alexa to turn things off and on for me. You should really just get one.

Very easy to set up, took me about 5 minutes you just follow the app. I did need instructions on how to set up calling and messaging, but that was all in the help section and once set up i immediately had a message from a friend. It’s fun to use, the sound is very clear and good quality, i the bought dot after setting this one up to use in another room.

Just ask for a song, artist or genre from Amazon Music, Spotify, TuneIn and more. With multi-room music, you can play music on Echo devices in different rooms, available for Amazon Music, TuneIn and Spotify; Bluetooth not supported.

Call or message anyone hands-free who also has an Echo device or the Alexa App.

New speaker with Dolby processing that fills the room with immersive, 360° omnidirectional audio, and delivers crisp vocals, deep bass, and clear highs at louder volumes.

With seven microphones, beam-forming technology and noise cancellation, Echo hears you from any direction-even while music is playing.

Amazon Echo (2nd Gen) – Smart speaker with Alexa – Sandstone Fabric – Great addition to a smart home!
