Sonos One – Voice Controlled Smart Speaker – Great edition to the range

Still waiting for support for assistants other than alexa but it is a great sounding addition to the kitchen and or bedroom.

These sound brilliant as a stereo pair. Very happy with them (and no issues with alexa and spotify so far). Surprised by the negative reviews – they’re brilliant.

We got this for christmas and put it in the kitchen. All the features of alexa (and spotify) with a great sound. Really changed our time in the kitchen.

How anyone thinks this is hard to set up or that alexa doesn’t work i don’t get – easiest set up and alexa works so well – great sound and a great product.

Great piece of kit, software be quality is outstanding can’t wait to get a second one for stereo. It did take me a while to get use to alexa was calling her the wrong name but after that little niggle she’s fantastic plays what you want. Amazon music unlimited is out standing the playlists wow where do i start.

A great product and fun to have if you’re bored ☺.

  • Absolutely brilliant – why all the negative reviews?
  • Great speakers but Alexa needs work
  • Brilliant quality and sound, Alexa is still hit and miss

Good sound quality, alexa is good but not asa good as its rival yet :).

I love this, got it as a christmas present and it keeps me company when i’m working from home. Great sound quality and alexa gives you the freedom to switch songs and stations when the mood takes you.

How did i manage without this. Love it –love it– love it. Eveyone should have one of these. Great price and fast delivery too.

Alexa really doesn’t know much and doesn’t seem to be able to search the internet well. But it’s nice for playing music (if she can understand your request) and checking the days weather.

Sonos one speakers sound very clear and crisp. Easy to setup using the sonos app on phone. Ive bought the playbase and sub with these speakers and the sound is amazing.

Can I use voice to control Spotify?

Yes, you can use voice to control Spotify Premium on Sonos One. Just ask Alexa for your favourite playlist, artist, album or song, then pause, resume, skip and adjust the volume.

Can I create a stereo pair between Sonos One and Play:1?

Sonos One can only pair with another Sonos One for stereo sound or as rear surrounds in a home cinema configuration.

Are there stands or wall mounts for Sonos One?

We worked with partners to develop stands and wall mount accessories specific to the Sonos One. These will be available to buy.

Sonos One does not have a standard speaker screw mount so always check compatibility of the stand before purchasing.

Do all Alexa commands work through Sonos One?

Most Alexa commands and skills are supported by Sonos One. However, several specific features that Alexa provides on Echo devices are not available. These include:

– Voice calling, drop-in and messaging

– Setting reminders and getting notifications

Make sure this fits
by entering your model number.

This is a fantastic piece of kit that integrates easily into the rest of our sonos system. It provides the usual sonos sound excellence and enables voice control of radio, spotify & various lights around the house.

Amazed at the sound that comes from such a small speaker, and so easy to work – no more messing with a docking station.

Just a superb piece of equipment. Great sound and build quality. I bought this to create a stereo pair with an existing sonos one and am very happy with them.

Great bit of kit especially with alexa built in. Good quality and great sound.

This is a great you talk to it and it can tell you anything. It play anything you have in your music library and more. The sound from this speaker is excellent.

Love it, use spotify premium for music.

Start and control your music with your voice; Amazon Alexa built right in

Good product, disappointed you can’t make calls via amazon echo though, didn’t read the spec properly.

This is brilliant, it has made me fall in love with sonos all over again. For various reasons the echo dot would not work in this house but the voice controlled sonos does an even better job.

Despite all the poor reviews on the item (not regarding the sound quality which is very good) but regarding the setup i found with the appropriate research most solutions could be resolved.

Great sound for such a small body – obviously not naim level but great. Alexa works all straight forward.

Love these speakers – i have two of these and going to buy the playbar (£699) on the back of the quality of these. Expensive, but well worth the money.

Love sonos products, so thought i’d try and move with the times and get alexa in my life. Once you’ve added a fair few skills she works well. Sometimes picks up sounds from the tv and randomly activates, but feedback is soon givrn. Good news that google assistant is on its way to be included so that will make these super dooper.

Combine voice with the Sonos app to manage all your music in one place: Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, internet radio and hundreds of other streaming services

I was undecided about whether to go with apple sonos or bose. Apple was a little pricey so decided on sonos. Wasn’t disappointed the sound is unreal. So glad i made this decision. If your in doubt don’t make the purchase you won’t be disappointed. I think i’m going to get another to add stereo sound.

Totally love this speaker with alexa built insound quality amazing, alexa software still in early stages but as time goes on will be as good as echoif you want a good speaker i would definitely recommend.

I’m a sonos convert and bought it as part of a home cinema setup consisting of a beam, sub and 2 x ones. These little speakers look great on their sanus floorstands and receive lots of compliments. More importantly the sound is great – refined and well balanced (helps that the sub takes care of the bass now).

I have been using these for a few months and they are a wonderful addition to my living room. These speakers have been my first introduction to sonos, and alexa. I must like them as i have just bought a sonos beam to make them into a surround sound tv setup. But i digress – i originally bought these speakers to bring some music to my living room. As we didn’t yet own a tv, and being someone who values audio more than video generally i wanted something nice i could stream music with. These speakers were a great choice. They pair easily, and using the ios app can be tuned to the environment for a lovely, room filling sound. The music is nicely balanced, with a reasonable amount of base and volume when needed while at the same time providing a very clear and enjoyable low volume listening experience. My experience with alexa has been mixed. She doesn’t always hear my unless i raise my voice, which can be frustrating.

This sonos one is my first foray into the world of sonos. I’m dipping my toe in, before buying further speakers. I’m impressed and will certainly be buying more. Having previously used echo dots (connected to hifi’s), i was familiar with alexa voice control, which my family has become used to using. However, i was always frustraed by alexa’s inability to recognise and play specific albums i would request from amazon prime or from my music library (hosted on amazon). The problem is particularly bad for classical music albums and composers. The alexa app does not provide a search facility, which is frustrating when the voice control fails so often. The amazon music app has just added the option to cast music to echo devices, but this is still rather clunky. The sonos app, by contrast, is far superior. In particular, it allows you to perform text searches on amazon cloud music, and select an album for immediate playback.

Well made speaker, great sound quality, that works well with the others we have in the house.

For the money, im really happy with this alexa/speaker. Alexa works very well, but you cannot set a sleep time and have to do this on the sonos app. Very good sound and plenty of bass if you want it.

Enjoy full voice control for Spotify on the Sonos One

Works fine and even better with updated firmware.

Primarily i wanted a speaker to play music – so i wanted it to sound great. Having listened to a range of smart speakers out there at the moment, i was somewhat disappointed with the sound quality of them all. Most had lack of bass and clarity, usually sounding dull, muffled and like a baked bean can. The emphasis seemed to be a smart assistant first, with the ability to play music second. Then i heard sonos and apple were entering the smart speaker market – more money than some other popular smart speakers i could mention (sorry amazon), but you get what you pay for. £199 price point for the sonos one isn’t wildly different from some of the other speakers anyway, although the new apple one due next year will have to be pretty special to justify their price tag. . I waited for the sonos one to arrive in a local store, so that i could ‘try before i buy. ‘ first impression was i expected it to sound better – but it was in a large store environment, lots of background shoppers noise, other speakers being played, and also, often the product isn’t set up properly for display/demonstration purposes. I also knew i’d be able to adjust bass and treble via the sonos app anyway. After a few more weeks chewing it over, i saw the sonos one on promotion with amazon and decided to take a gamble.

I can’t understand the negative reviews; this speaker is excellent. As one would expect with sonos, the sound is excellent. In addition my experience of alexa has been flawless.

Doesn’t pickup the word ‘alexa’ very well (amazon devices do fine though). Still awaiting google home compatibility.

Loving having alexa in the house, and expanding my sonos system at the same time.

Alexa functionality still feel like it’s in beta; it doesn’t always work, it took some time setting up and fixing the ‘only plays single songs’ bug, but in general we’re very happy. With two in a large open plan space i’m very happy with the sound quality.

Enjoy rich room-filling sound from a smart speaker

This is a replacement as the first one didn’t work. I have since bought a sonos play 1 to play in another room and that was straightforward to add to the sonos app.

We love sonos and we’re fond of alexa so this is a no brainer. I like that we can ask alexa to wake us up, and she even asks ‘am or pm?’ bless.

I run a photography studio and i bought one for the studio area for background music when with clients but almost immediately ordered a second one for the office as well. I loved that the two rooms were in sync and that the volume on each could be controlled both together or separately. I also like that i can quickly turn the volume down with alexa. The sound on these were so good that i have now also ordered one for home and will be using that to control the lighting and tele. I know it’s a little expensive for alexa on it’s own but for sound quality and convenience, this is a must have purchase.

Great sound but terrible connectivity, difficult to connect any device other than a phone to. There is a lack of sonos compatible apps. Will likely sell it and swap to a model with bluetooth functionality. A shame because it’s a neat looking device with sound quality that’s superior to many full hi fi systems.

And sound quality is amazing. Been using it along with amazon music and its fantastic.

Alexa can be slightly hit and miss but more hit. Can be occasionally temperamental but as our first smart speaker i would recommend. Bit annoying to have to pay extra to get a stereo pair as only a one can pair with a one and essentially i will turn the microphone off on one so won’t buy unless price drop or free amazon vouchers from amex become available.

This is so much better than the so called echo 2nd generation.

I also have the sonos play1. Great quality and fills the room with sound. Just ask alexa to play music, so easy. Alexa hears better on my echo spot, but get closer to the sonos one and there’s no problems.

A brilliant speaker and the added functionality of amazon alexa makes it best in class. Delivered quickly and easy to set up, it’s ideal for any room in the house. Having the alexa hands free option is great for the kitchen too – especially for setting timers. High quality and definitely recommended.

Easy enough to set up but alexa is unable to hear her name if the volume is turned up leading to having to shout to control the speaker. Also the ai has a way to go before it is interactive enough to be useful.

The set up was confusing as hell. I still think i have loads of features unused on this. The sound is pretty good and i think will be enhanced as i grow the collection.

The sonos one is easy to use and fairly easy to set up. I have a hive heating and lights system, and it’s great to be able to control all those functions with my voice. I hadn’t even thought about buying a firestick until this, but now i’m really contemplating it just so i can have the ease of bypassing my traditional xbox-netflix setup by using alexa. The sound quality is great, and the speaker works well with spotify, and can basically play anything you want so long as it understands you. Like any sonos system, it works seamlessly with other sonos devices. However, this doesn’t get a 5/5 due to a disappointing alexa. I don’t quite understand it, but it seems there’s a difference between certain alexa devices. Certain alexa actions, such as routines, are not supported on the one. For example, when i tell alexa that i am going out, i get a message stating that the routine i am trying to engage is not supported. (however, the funny thing is the lights still turn off as intended.

      • Sound is warm and powerful so music follows me. I can’t imagine to change this. My friends reaction was: wow.

Not as good at high volume as i hoped. Can’t expect miracles from a small speaker i suppose. Sent it back because alexa’s smart home groupings didn’t work. Also if you have another echo in the house, this is not smart enough to realise that you’re talking to one or the other, so both echos try to help.

I’ve used an amp and 2 monitor speaker setup for years, and will always prefer the sound. For the benefit of being able to play so quickly with alexa or your device as a remote, it’s miles ahead of any non-smart soeaker. I have two and they sound great as a stereo pair. But compared to my mordaunt-short monitor speakers, they are understandably massively lacking. Which means there’s the option of the £699 subfor general listening the sonos one is great and all my mates are impressed, baring in mind their small size.

      • Let it bed in, and it still sounded very poor. Would not recommend to anyone. No bass whatsoever, no distinct treble. Very disappointed with such an expensive product.

    • Bought this to replace echo plus for superior sound quality. The sound is better however there is some loss of alexa functionality such as ‘good night alexa’ and the voice recognition is poor.

  11. Fantastic sound and style, sometimes it doesn’t pick up my voice but very rarely, mainly due to having it up too loud. Overall a very good speaker and easy to use.

Bought a pair and have set them as stereo, (one sonos left and one sonos right) but they keep dropping and a lot of times are out of sync with each other. Also tried them as separate speakers and the sync is worst. I have a dedicated wi-fi mesh system for my smart home devices and the wi-fi never drop on the other devices. Tried setting a dedicated wi-fi network for only the sonos but it still drops and are out of sync. 5mm input which only limits you to wi-fi.

Alexa a bit muddled but i’m sure sonos will update that.
    • I really don’t like how this product looks or sounds, even after tinkering with the equalizer. Additionally, setting it up was a bit of a pain. Yes, there is that great sonos app, which supposed to make it easy, for phones and desktops, but in reality, it took a good few hours of fiddling with settings to get it at least half working. I wish i read other reviews as well as checked the product’s rating more clearly. Perhaps i purchased the wrong sonos, but the device i have does not even support bluetooth transmission, which is essential, despite what the sonos company thinks (apparently tis a feature not a bug (or fatal product design mistake) to not support bluetooth as the transmission quality is better via wifi. Nonsense, as the impact on the user is negligible, it’s just fancy pants gibberish, my other bluetooth speaker is absolutely perfect, i just wanted to improve the sound). Additionally, the speaker that’s supposedly really good for music, at such a high price, sounds dreadful for music, but cannot even be used to play movies through it as it cannot be hooked up to the tv. So why wouldn’t anybody just buy a bluetooth speaker with a good enough sound, hook it up to their amazon fire tv, sit back and relax and not worry about fiddling for hours to set something up?. I hope i can still return this for a full refund, i’ll be in touch with amazon, as i really don’t like it.

Although i was tempted by the homepod, the lack of features and support put me off so i ended up getting a sonos one and boy am i glad i did. The sound quality is incredible and now there’s airplay 2 support it’s even easier to play music from any ios or mac/pc.

I’m rather disappointed with this item especially based on its high cost yet poor voice recognition and sound quality. As a family we already own one of the original amazon echo devices and an amazon echo dot. I was tempted to buy another echo as it’s been fantastic – great sound and perfect voice recognition, but assuming the sonos would offer better sound quality for a larger room into which it will be installed, we opted for the sonos one. The sonos one appears to be a solid and well-built piece of equipment and looks pretty smart once in situ, but the problems appear once you turn it on and try to use it. The voice recognition is awful. The number of times we’ve had to repeat ourselves is becoming annoying to the point of considering requesting a refund. Sometimes alexa does not hear what you say properly, other times she does not even respond to “alexa” and you have to get up and stand next to it for it to recognise your voice. It kind of defeats the object. Sound quality is not much better. For a device costing £189 coupled with sonos’ reputation for audio clarity, it’s a bit of a let-down.

Wish i had bought apple instead if you order more than one then beware they are not good together and keep dropping in and out and sonos are no help so unless you want to spend your time installing and going crazy spend some extra cash and buy apple.
