Versatile, great sounding and good looking sound system. I looked at a number of different soundbases – they’re a good idea if you’ve no room for lots of speakers and can’t tolerate the hassle of cables everywhere. They don’t produce true surround sound lie a 5. 1 system but are able to imitate it by bouncing sound around the room quite effectively. Firstly, this is quite compact (enough to fit on a smallish standoff about 85cm width – look at roth’s website or richer sounds for dimensions), but larger than many such as the canton dm50. The side and front panels house the various tweeters (the woofers are on the underside) and are clothed in a fabric cover. The corners, top and base panels are a nice solid brushed aluminium. I bought black to match the tv but have seen a silver one which looks stunning and would be my choice if i could buy it again. The remote is a gorgeous weighty silver aluminium unit, very simple and clearly laid out and is just lovely. You can control volume, base treble and switch input (source) with it.
Brilliant sound base and customer service. This is so new on the market that there were no technical or customer reviews to judge it by and as a result ordered with some trepidation based on the company’s past reputation and the spec after i had exhausted all alternativesoff to a poor start in that the box crackled when switched on and after considerable lengths to trouble shoot with almost the whole of the house electrical system isolated from and possible interference it had to be a problem with the sound base. All set to return it to ‘peter dyson’ the seller on amazon (they could have not been more helpful) when i phoned roth themselves. They were most concerned, especially with a device new to the market. Wayne ups’d a replacement the very next day without involving amazon, and that also proved faulty with the crackle when turned on. Roth then bench tested another and that arrived promptly via ups with ups retrieving the faulty ones. Delighted with the box now, does all it says on the tin and has replaced a old 2. Spoilt for connections on the back with 4 hdmi, optical, phono, co axial and sub woofer as well.
Great sound, looks good and just enough control on the stylish remote.

- Best Kept Soundbase Secret!

Ok when it decided to work. . As i already had a soundbar a neighbour left this with me after buying the roth neo 6. 2 soundbar at a car boot sales for £150 to see what i thought. It was boxed up like new so i don’t think it had been used much if at all. First off i could not get it to work. On power up even with nothing connected there was loud whooshing interference. This continued when i moved the sound bar to a different room to isolate any airborne interference. After setting up an i player bluetooth link the soundbar started to work with the odd pop. After 2 hours the interference went. Reading other reviews there seems to be an issue with this product.
I weighed up the pros and cons for several weeks either keeping my av amp or, purchasing a sound base. In the end, the neatness with wires, etc, meant the latter option won me over. Investigation of potential products from the likes of cambridge audio/canton/tannoy/sonos, etc made me conclude purchasing of one without hdmi/arc capability pretty much guaranteed i’d be buying a new one in year or so. Therefore, the roth connectivity scored heavily even before i had heard it. Scant reviews of the roth and ability to compare it to other products was easily remedied by richer sounds. For me, the audio difference between the aforementioned brands is negligible. You will read criticism that the roth doesn’t have enough base to it. Quite frankly, that is a good thing. For those of us who don’t live in large detached houses and who have neighbours, being able to control the base or, having the optionality to add a separate sub woofer is a major bonus.

The best sounding sound base on the market – even better with a subwoofer.
Hdmi connections a great idea, but not very consistant when choosing a. Will not give you surround sound , just a louder speaker. Hdmi connections a great idea , but not very consistant when choosing a device , sometimes takes a while to switch to the ps4 or bluray player. Youtube can sound distorted when playing music , even at low volume. Looks fantastic , hdmi connections great , but expensive soundbase , with average sound.
