Q ACOUSTICS Q Acoustics M2 Soundbar – Great sound, only minor quibbles

Brought q acoustics m2 as a replacement for my 3 year old burnt out canton dm75. Not only the m2 sound better when being used with tv and bluetooth music being streamed from my ipad but the hdmi connect enables control from the tv remote. Surround sound can be obtained my turning on in the tv setting. The only slight negative is the small and flimsy remote control when compared to the cantons. I can only hope it does not overheat inside and last longer than the canton.

Really pleased with this speaker, has a great depth of sound especially for movies. Also bluetooth music from iphone through apple music, sounds really good. Only marked down as i would like an onscreen display when adjusting volume and could look nicer.

After a lot of research i bought this to upgrade a flat screen tv speakers. The quality of finish is good and solid, with a rich and full sound. Haven’t cranked it up fully, but have not noticed any distortion on about 75% volume. The remote ( as described in a number of reviews) is pretty basic, and i haven’t notice and great difference between the two pre-set equaliser settings. Despite this it is a great improvement on the tv speakers and, for the price, i believe provides good sound.

New style sony tvs with the slim legs facing rearward do not fit this sound base. We have a 2018 49” tv and the 2 legs slip sideways and are not supported by the base. Really annoyingly if the edges of the m2 weren’t curved they would hold it. I’ve had to use a piece of ply to support the back tv legs.

Excellent piece of equipment, makes watching television more pleasurable with excellent sound quality.

If you want to significantly improve the sound from your tv but don’t want a surround sound system then this soundbase is an excellent choice for you. I have an lg 55inch oled ( 2017 model ) and the difference in sound is amazing. Very easy to set up , connect with hdmi ( to arc input ) , make sure your tv audio out is set to 2 speaker setting and that’s it. There are settings on the back to change depending on position of soundbase and a volume boost if needed. The vocals are much clearer , you can hear a lot more detail and those deep based sounds are a wow. You can also connect other devices via bluetooth so great for listening to audio books or music from your ipad. Be aware that q acoustics recommend that the tv stand should not overhang the base ( i can’t put my tv on it ) , but it sits nicely on a shelf underneath. Only downside is the naf remote but i can live with that.

  • A great compromise on a full 5.1 surround sound system
  • a surround sound system then this soundbase is an excellent choice for you
  • Great sound eventually from this M2 – very susceptible to room effects.

I am so happy with my q accoustics m2 soundbase. This is a fabulous piece o equipment. The sound is so clear and non fatiguing. I was watching silent witness last night which has a theme tune that would make most tvs and soundbars shudder. It just sailed brilliantly through this audio test. Never a quiver, never a step out of line. No you don’t get surround sound, fireworks or theatrics (unless they in the plot). What you do get is wonderful sound quality, vocal and instrument separation with no fatigue. As a hifi buff i’ve heard many audio systems and this is the nearest thing i’ve heard to hifi in tv sound. It doesn’t smack you round the ears. It just gently makes you wonder whether you would want to listen to tv any other way. Congratulations to q accoustics who incidentally i’d never heard of before.

Went for this to create an improvement over standard tv speakers. Improvement is massivebuild wise, the unit is weighty and well finished, no panel gaps or cheap feeling plastics, not as well built as something like the canton dm55 (which was also in consideration), but given the lack of connectivity and reliability on the canton units, i am more than happy with my choice. Sound wise, it gives out a ‘balanced yet meaty’ tonality, not an overpowering bass, but enough to make the spitfires in dunkirk sound like they were tearing through my front room. The only reason this is getting 4 rather than 5 stars is the frankly laughable remote, seriously, it is like something you got bundled with a cheap chinese in car tv/dvd combo in the early 2000s and lack of any form of volume indicator on the front of the unit when changing volume.

Improved sound for an older sony bravia, which does not have an hdmi arc output (i. A usual hdmi will not work). Luckily, the bar has phono and toslink inputs, but apparently hdmi arc would provide the ‘best’ experience.

I did loads of research on sound bars and sound bases. This is a new product and it won best soundbase 2017 in what hi-fi magazine, so that, some favourable user reviews and a demo made me choose it. Initially when i brought the unit home, i found it had too much bass and, as you can’t adjust the bass and treble, i was concerned. But then i realised that a switch on the back of the unit (designed to give different sound settings depending on where it is housed) actually does effectively give you three bass settings. I reduced the bass down using this and now i am very happy (but a shame the manual doesn’t tell you that though). After i did this i realised how good the unit sounds. The sound is spacious and not overly treated with showy effects making it a pure and powerful sound. I have tested it with various types of films and it sounds great. The other nice surprise is how good it makes music sound when played through it via bluetooth. The sound is nice and detailed and i have been hearing things i hadn’t before.

Great sound and simple to use but to high for my use.

Installation and set-up very straight- forward. Works well with my eight year old panasonic vieira.

A massive improvement to the tv internal speakers. I’m even considering buying another one for the lounge tv.

Overall sound bar is worth the money. Sound is great and can be heard all around the room. Bluetooth works great along side optical audio and hdmi. Would recommend for a fairly big room as is a bit over kill for a small room.

Easy to manage controls and useful side contacts for additional equipment but with fewer sound options than some competitors.

A wee bit big to sit under my samsung tv, but that’s a minor issue.

We’ll built good sound but sadly the remote is a joke.

What Hi-Fi? 2017 Product of the Year – Best Soundbase. The M2 Soundbase delivers stunning TV and audio sound performance.

Makes my old hi-fi redundant – (i play classical cds through panasonic recorder.

Not the best sound but will do job.

It’s robust and it is a huge improvement on my sony tv sound. With this unit i can listen to the dialogue with the volume much higher, which is super during this current and dramatic world cup. The sound is super clear with virtually no distortion, compared to using this the sony tv without it. I have found that positioning this unit directly under the tv, gives this unit it’s best effect. All in all, i am delighted with this product. I consider it, given the above improvements, excellent value for money. It also looks the bizi recommend this product without hesitation.

This isn’t a surround sound system but it does serve to drastically improve your existing stereo experience from your tv. I have used many surround sound systems at various budgets and from a practicality and clutter point of view i am very pleased with the m2. The sound output is very clear, the dialogue is crisp and the bass is immersive without being overpowering. I set it up out of the box in less than 5 minutes using an optical toslink cable (not supplied) and other than adjusting a couple of switches at the rear of the unit, it was ready to go. Operation is simple and colour coded with an light indicator at the top front of the unit. Pleasingly it automatically turns on and off when i turn on my tv – similar operation can be achieved using the hdmi (arc) cable (included) if compatible with your tv. I didn’t use this option as i didn’t have a spare hdmi input on my tv. This unit is very very loud and may not be for you if you want to use at very low volumes at a night time. Bluetooth/nfc operation is also very simple using the pairing button at the back (which can be a pain to access if you are placing it in a tv cabinet). It also has a very nice natural sound when used as a bluetooth speaker for music.

Could not have expected better, was looking for a soundbar/soundbase for a large tv in my bedroom as-with recent recording techniques the dictation was muffled and overshadowed by background music via tv speakers, i always trust reviews on what hi-fi magazine and this was product of the year 2017 stating that dialogue was firmly fixed at just the right level and sufficient bass provided not to take over. Turn it up and wow what an incredible sound adding a further dimension to films etc. Cannot recommend enough, buy with confidence.

Recommend you check the size before you buy ( was larger than i expected)but highly recommend.

The M2 doubles as an all in one music system for music lovers streaming high quality music via Bluetooth APTX or NFC for Android devices. So when the TV is off, you can stream your favourite music.

Very good sound, quite compatable with a lot more expensive brands, would highly recommend.

Fast delivery, excellent quality.

Easily installed when instructions were followed. Fits neatly under tv within stand. If left on standby no need to use provided clicker. Arrived earlier than expected in well constructed packaging.

Update: downgraded to 3 star from initial 5had this for 9 months now, and a few issues have started to plague me. The auto power off is infuriating, and it won’t always power back on via the remote (batteries are fine) or sometimes even has to be power cycled. This has now started to happen more often – currently about every 3 weeks it needs a full power off. Also just to note, i recently purchased a circa 1990 sony micro stereo (cd/md/tuner) from a heart foundation shop for £16 mainly because the speaker grilles match the decor in my kitchen. Hooked it up to the small tv in the kitchen just for fun initially, and i have to say this 1990’s stereo that had been thrown in the bin by someone is better than this £300 soundbari’ve been living with this for a week and thought i’d update my review accordingly. At the price, there’s nothing better in my opinion. Clear and balanced sound throughout the frequency spectrum. Nor does it fill your room with earth shattering bass, but the bass is still there. There’s also quite a bit of mid range detail that appears to be lacking in many sub £600 sound bars.

The m2 has replaced my denon soundbase which developed random cut-outs and loud “pops”. The denon’s sound was wider with a little more bass and was generally more enveloping. However, as with many others, there was no way i could put up with this apparently common problem. As you would expect, the m2 produces a far superior sound to that of my samsung tv and was easy to set up. Using the hdi lead means the m2 is automatically controlled by the tv remote so no “remote-learning” involved. Hopefully it will last a little longer than the denon.

Beautifully balanced stereo sound. Voices are much clearer (my hearing impaired other half no longer needs subtitles). If the source is good enpugh on orchestral music you can pick out every instrument and they sound like they are playing in the room. Really couldn’t ask for more and a bargain at this price point.

Rather than repeat other reviews, for me there’s two issues really. Soundbases tend to be put under the tv so where the tv is sited is where the soundbase goes. Initially this really didn’t work with where the tv was sited originally. The m2 was on top of a av unit with the tv on top of that. The output went very loud but was harsh in the mid range and there was little bass response. Adjusting the bass adjust slider on the rear didn’t do anything to the perceived level of bass in the listening position. After incrementally moving the tv and soundbase about a foot nearer, eventually the sound changed for the better. Movie eq is the default sound and its really good for movies and i was surprised that music (classical and rock) is best left on movie eq too.

BMR speaker drivers provide 180 degree room-filling sound, stunning stereo separation and clarity, but the inbuilt subwoofer gives a depth of soundscape that will transform your listening experience

Had this about two months now. Speaker quality is excellent. My tv is stuck in the corner of my lounge and was always difficult to understand. Only wish i could set the default source. Other than that is thoroughly recommended.

For £ 208 you can not expect more.

Nice sound not too much base, (which i like) clear sound sound and the volume goes pretty big.

With a range of inputs including HDMI, Optical, Bluetooth and NFC, the M2 provides ultimate flexibility when it comes to music source.

    • The soundbase itself is fine, but it keeps switching to bluetooth and it keeps turning itself on if a phone is near (always). This means you always have to unplug it when not in use. Retarded design decision by q acoustics.

Would not synchronise with my samsung tv automatically. Each and every time i had to switch the soundbar and tv off at the socket and basically reboot, this meant shifting a large tv cabinet loaded with other tech stuff and shifting it all back again. Sound on tv was inferior to the speakers on my tv.
