Libratone Zipp Wireless tooth and Wifi Speaker – The Best – the very best portable wifi speakers I have heard to date – Fantastic

This product was provided free for review and i have to admit that initially it seemed quite overpriced. However, i love itit comes presented in a stylish cylindrical box. It looks top quality and i love teal, red and white colour-way. There is a leather wrist strap for portability. The radio stations are fine, but i use it mostly to stream imusic and play itunes. I downloaded the app and connected to wi-fi to play the radio, then paired my iphone (5s) with bluetooth through the settings. It occasionally needs re-pairing (mainly because i have several bluetooth devices), but i have found it problem free. The sound is great, although not as immersive as surround sound.

Blown away by the sound quality. I wanted a bluetooth speaker which gives you just that little bit more, but was still portable. The libratone zipp mini, totally blew me away from first opening the box, to the amazing sound quality it delivers. I am used to the bose, b&o, and sony quaity products. With the possible exception of bose, the libratone zipp topped all these. Opening the box, you are presented with a high quality cardboard tube. They type which you would expect an expensive vintage wine to come in. The top comes off with a suitable quality feel resitance, where you know it has been well made. Inside are the instruction pamphlets, a few in different languages. Next is a high dentitsy foam padding, in the top of which is the power supply, which comes with both the uk and euro interface, which you snap onto the power supply itself.

Stylish design & clear sound. The zipp mini is packaged and indeed feels like a quality device; it’s got a nice weight to it and a sturdy feel, and when handled you can tell that it’s made from quality materials. I originally gave it 4 stars, but a big flaw on the radio front meant i had to down-grade it (see later on). The review short version:sound quality: 3. 5 (depending on taste, see below)ease of setup: 3. 5ease of use: 4style: 4features/expandability: 5there are more things to consider; read on. Now i know you want to hear how it sounds, but i’ll treat this review like the device treats a user. You can’t use it until you set it up using their software, so that’s where the review will begin. Finding and downloading it is easy, with qr codes dotted around for android users (on the base of the device for example) and simple search of the app store for iphone/ios. Once installed, the first thing it makes you do is register (you can’t use the software if you don’t, but you can ask them to forget you afterwards) and it explains it will use data on how the device is used by you to improve its products. First black mark for me; even if anonymised, i don’t like this erosion of privacy that more things make you accept these days. You may feel differently of course. Once you get past this, you are challenged with actual setup. Instructions are scant, with a minimal icon based leaflet stored in the lid (see picture).

These speakers are so good i have now bought two of them and get beautiful stereo sound when linked.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Very pleased, better than I expected
  • Fantastic flexibility but dodgy on wifi
  • Very Happy with product

The quality is very good but above all the sound is excellent. The customer services is also very good as i needed there help. If you buy it, you will not regret.

A capable speaker let down by execution. Firstly, i have to say, this is beautifully packaged. It feels like an apple product when unboxing and really sets you up to expect quality. Even the power charger is lovely- see enclosed photos. As products go, it does not get much better than this as a first impression. Once inside the box, the speaker itself is lifted out. This is not unmanageable but prevents it from being totally portable. The dial on the top is lovely, as is reminiscent of an early ipod click dial (including the early white).

Fantastic flexibility but dodgy on wifi. I had these speakers recommended to me as a great portable music unit. I’ve owned them for 3 months now and great might be pushing it a little but i do like them. The plus points are easy to sum up. It looks good and the music quality is decent but you can get that from a number of brands, libratone is not tethered by the need for a plug socket. Airplay (i tend to play music through my iphone) drops out. The issue depends on the form of connectivity. Through bluetooth it’s generally fine, wifi is a different matter – it drops out all the time. When i have these issues i’ve checked the strength of signal on the libratone app and it generally say 80% (strong signal) and all other devices in our house have good connections. Doesn’t seem to matter though – libratone will play radio without issue but not airplay.

Unusually attractive speaker. His is quite an unusual speaker in terms of looks, and it has certainly generated a few comments from visitors who wonder what it us. The sound quality is pretty good for a speaker of this size and type and (almost as importantly) i found it very easy to set up. I linked mine to my samsung phone and from there it was easy to link to my laptop, home network, and the family’s assorted collection of tablets. Other things of note, the packaging is pretty good, a very stout cardboard tube with thick foam end pieces which keep it safe and sound in transit. They are quite firmly wedged in so it may take you some time to coax the speaker out of its box :).

This wireless speaker is incredible. From the moment it came you could tell it was going to be something of decent quality. From the packaging to the design on of the power cord this speaker really is a perfect little device, especially with that it also works over both wifi and bluetooth making the link between phone and speaker greater. The functionality is spot on with the app allowing you to set up wifi as well as combine speakers around the house, change the tone and preset internet radio. If found the speaker to have a decent battery life and the added feature of the leather handle allows for outside use. It’s loud and the tone is really nice, the ability to tell the speaker where its positioned (table, floor, outside, shelf) allows for great tone wherever you are. The touch screen control and easy enough and the hush feature is just the cheery on the top. My only problem would be the slight faff it takes to get sound connect from third party apps. Radio is fine, music player is fine (once you assign the right speaker), but trying to re-listen to a podcast or radio show through an app causes you to launch music, set the speaker, close music, open the app.

This is a great solution in the crossover of both. If you consider wifi speakers and bluetooth speakers as separate sets, this is a great solution in the crossover of both. That venn diagram set is quite small if you want home speakers that operate on wifi and allow zoning as well as being able to grab one and head off to the beach with it using your phone to drive it on bluetooth. The sound is great and i got a few admiring comments but i have a suspicion the bose soundlink is louder and better (but believe it doesn’t sync with other speakers or operate on apple airplay). I reckon sonos is better at home too – from sound and power point of view – but sonos aren’t a portable solution. My only gripe is that to take advantage of multiple speakers at home, the price is pretty prohibitive.

Great speaker and there are ways to fix the issues some have mentioned. I have several airplay speakers including ones from more well-known hi-fi manufacturers and the zipp is my clear favourite. So much so, i now have two and if i feel i need another airplay speaker, that will also be a zipp. I’m not going to repeat the other reviews but just confirm that the battery and the one-touch radio function are killer apps for me and i get annoyed at my other speakers–including more expensive ones–for not having these features. What i will talk about though is some of the negatives that have been mentioned in these reviews, the first is patchy airplay. Sadly airplay isn’t as solid as sonos’ wireless so there is no such thing as a 100% solid airplay speaker as airplay itself isn’t 100%. However, what i have found is that the zipp (and other airplay speakers) can be patchy when on a 2. I moved mine (and my phone and mac) onto a 5ghz network and pretty much all the airplay glitches went away. Second negative i’ll deal with is the sleep function.

The best – the very best portable wifi speakers i have heard to date – fantastic. It looks like something for taking coffee to work in, but don’t let that fool youit arrived a couple of hours ago, and once looking at the package, i couldn’t wait to get stuck in. The packaging exudes quality, it’s presented like a crown jewel. It couldn’t be better secured if it were a radioactive isotope. Very little literature in the ‘tube’ but what is not included in print is available to download on the libratone website. A power adaptor, which looks like its taking a break from a place on the wall in an art gallery – lovely looking thing it is, also has a european converter as well as the familiar uk plug. Even the cable tidy as part of the packaging around the braided power cord is bespoke.

The rubber handle makes it easy to carry around with you. I was on the lookout for a new portable bluetooth speaker to take out with me on my travels, so i can listen to music and podcasts wherever i am, and i came across this speaker. It’s a stylish design and bigger than you may expect, but still eminently portable. The rubber handle makes it easy to carry around with you, if your hands are too small to hold the speaker directly. The speaker is designed to allow you to change the cover for a different coloured one, but i was unable to test this because i don’t have a replacement one. I undid the zip though for a laugh, and i found it a bit fiddly to zip back up again. I love the stylish touch-sensitive display on the top of the speaker, and it’s easy to change the volume, just by dragging your finger in a clockwise (or anti-clockwise) motion. When paired with bluetooth, you can easily skip tracks by pressing the appropriate buttons that light up on bluetooth connection. The device controls and inputs are sensibly laid out on the base of the device. As well as the power button there is a usb port and aux-in for attaching non-bluetooth or wifi-capable devices.

Sound, user interface and designif i could i would give it 10 stars.

Blown away by the sound quality. I wanted a bluetooth speaker which gives you just that little bit more, but was still portable. Great sound but i had to return because of constant beeping.

Great sounding mini speaker packed with features. Lots of features and it’s portable. The base is a little weak for my liking but then again there is no distortion and sound sent in all directions. It’s the size of a jbl speaker. Update may 2016 – bass has improved over the months. Need to wear it in to get the best sound.

stunning piece of technology this. First time any bluetooth speaker ( i have three) or bluetooth headphone (i’ve lost count) has gone right around my place without interruption. Usually the stairs and bathroom are the biggest problem. Typed in libratone in the google play app and easily uploaded their app. Easy connect smartphone to speaker with bluetooth. And the rest is in my video. If you detect audio distortion this is entirely due to microphone setting on my camcorder, there was never any distort on libratone. Listening to pink floyd’s breath at the moment, speaker in front of me. Never thought mono(?) could be so immersive.

Fantastic speaker secretly trouncing bose, sony and sonos. Had this a couple of months now and i’ve been really pleased and impressed with it. I am very pleased to have bought this over the sonos, bose and sony offerings at this price point. It works in every respect, and works well and pretty damn classily too. It’s wifi friendly, easy to set up, reliable, stays connected and is always available as a sound output on all the 5000 devices in this house. The app is sleek, modern and easy to use, and makes the perfect accompaniment to this pleasing speaker. You can keep this on the charge lead or take it to the middle of a field and use via bluetooth. It’s got everything it needs to be called a, truly, wireless speaker.

This is a very good bluetooth speaker. The first to grab your attention is the packaging. I haven’t come across a product that has been so well packaged and presented. The tube packaging is first. The quick start leaflets come in three languages. There’s the plug in charger with a euro 2 pin and a 3 pin uk adaptor. The speaker itself looks like a retro thermos with a wooly top. It sounds bad but it looks contemporary. The top of the speaker has a touch panel that houses the led status lights and functional touch sensitive buttons. This acts as the volume control, mute, bluetooth pairing and forwards/backwards track selector. The speaker cloth has a zip near to the base of the unit. This can be changed for another cover but i think red look gorgeous on this unit. The lower portion of the speaker comes with the power button, charging port, reset switch and a usb port for charging up phones etc.
