Libratone Zipp Mini Wireless tooth and Wifi Speaker – A Capable speaker let down by execution

Very pleased, better than i expected. So far, so good ( have speakers for a couple of months now) i wanted speakers for airplay functionality, which is quite difficult to find at a reasonable cost. These are not cheap, but nor is the cost prohibitive. This is my third big name brand, started with pure contour and also have z2 bowers. Airplay- i have been really impressed with how painless the connection works to my iphone or macbook. As anyone who has ever tried airplay probably knows there are always problems with the signal being lost and delays. These are without a doubt the best speakers so far for that purpose as there have been no problems whatsoever. Hurrahradio – a surprise bonus has been the internet radio options also. Great choice although the app is a little fiddly and you can only save 5 favourites. Sound – absolutely excellent, especially given the compact size of the speakerstyling – i got the grey speaker and really like the subtle styling rather than a big ugly black boxdownsides- if i was being picky i would like an led type display on the speaker to show what is playing, but the libratone iphone app is fairly good as an alternative.

Fantastic flexibility but dodgy on wifi. I had these speakers recommended to me as a great portable music unit. I’ve owned them for 3 months now and great might be pushing it a little but i do like them. The plus points are easy to sum up. It looks good and the music quality is decent but you can get that from a number of brands, libratone is not tethered by the need for a plug socket. Airplay (i tend to play music through my iphone) drops out. The issue depends on the form of connectivity. Through bluetooth it’s generally fine, wifi is a different matter – it drops out all the time. When i have these issues i’ve checked the strength of signal on the libratone app and it generally say 80% (strong signal) and all other devices in our house have good connections. Doesn’t seem to matter though – libratone will play radio without issue but not airplay.

Great sounding mini speaker packed with features. Lots of features and it’s portable. The base is a little weak for my liking but then again there is no distortion and sound sent in all directions. It’s the size of a jbl speaker. Update may 2016 – bass has improved over the months. Need to wear it in to get the best sound.

  • Very pleased, better than I expected
  • Fantastic flexibility but dodgy on wifi
  • Really great sound! Still some software bugs to fix soon 🙂

This is a great solution in the crossover of both. If you consider wifi speakers and bluetooth speakers as separate sets, this is a great solution in the crossover of both. That venn diagram set is quite small if you want home speakers that operate on wifi and allow zoning as well as being able to grab one and head off to the beach with it using your phone to drive it on bluetooth. The sound is great and i got a few admiring comments but i have a suspicion the bose soundlink is louder and better (but believe it doesn’t sync with other speakers or operate on apple airplay). I reckon sonos is better at home too – from sound and power point of view – but sonos aren’t a portable solution. My only gripe is that to take advantage of multiple speakers at home, the price is pretty prohibitive.

Excellent speaker, i have also now ordered zipp mini. Just take time to set it up. If you have any questions suggest don’t use the app support but you go to libratone. Com support site, i received a quick response.

A capable speaker let down by execution. Firstly, i have to say, this is beautifully packaged. It feels like an apple product when unboxing and really sets you up to expect quality. Even the power charger is lovely- see enclosed photos. As products go, it does not get much better than this as a first impression. Once inside the box, the speaker itself is lifted out. This is not unmanageable but prevents it from being totally portable. The dial on the top is lovely, as is reminiscent of an early ipod click dial (including the early white).

Still some software bugs to fix soon :). If you play wired/bt from your tablet/smartphone, the sound is really great. It is also quite esy to connect with bluetooth. The major problem is the app for android. And it gets worst when you have a couple of zipp and want to play together. I am quite skilled wit it stuff, but this app doesen’t work well. You can pair them and remotely control from your smartphone, but the sound is intermittent and unpleasant to hear.

Highly recommended for sound quality and output capability. . Wifi is the way to go – no more connectivity issues if you dare to move too far from the source. This thing is superb, puts out a high quality sound at high volume with decent bass. Far better than the ue offerings and amazing value for money given the quality and watts. You can link up to 7 together and i am planning an expansion. It is quite heavy for it’s size so not something you’d leave the house with regularly so be sure to read the dimensions / weight before deciding if this is for you. For plonking down around the house / garden/ car / friends house it is fab. Absolutely delighted with this kit. I am quite hard to please (polite version) and yet here i am taking the time for once to post a review.

Blown away by the sound quality. I wanted a bluetooth speaker which gives you just that little bit more, but was still portable. The libratone zipp mini, totally blew me away from first opening the box, to the amazing sound quality it delivers. I am used to the bose, b&o, and sony quaity products. With the possible exception of bose, the libratone zipp topped all these. Opening the box, you are presented with a high quality cardboard tube. They type which you would expect an expensive vintage wine to come in. The top comes off with a suitable quality feel resitance, where you know it has been well made. Inside are the instruction pamphlets, a few in different languages. Next is a high dentitsy foam padding, in the top of which is the power supply, which comes with both the uk and euro interface, which you snap onto the power supply itself.

Good speakers but not so good. I bought a libratone zipp and 2 x zipp mini speakers a few months ago and although are great speakers, the sound is loud and clear with very little distortion. I tend to leave my speakers on and plugged all the time and only use the battery mode when i’m in the garden or when i am going to be in a room where i have no speakers (i. The kitchen)you can set up 5 favourite internet stations per speaker, change the speaker’s sounds settings through the app, there is even a hush option (you can mute the speaker by putting your hand on top of the touch interface of the speaker. You can use the speaker to charge your phone, but i wouldn’t rely too much on this as it does so very slowly. You can link the speakers together and have a stereo option through the app. However beware that sometimes when listening internet radio in stereo mode, one of the speakers tends to have a little delay. The zipp is obviously louder than the zipp mini, but to my liking, the mini’s have better sound. In summary, looks good, sounds great and it is very portablethe app is laggy and can take a long times to find the sound spaces and won’t always find all 3 speakers.

Sound, user interface and designif i could i would give it 10 stars.

Good speaker let down by poor app and lack of extras. Libratone have made a good speaker with decent sound but a truly horrible app. The speaker itself was bigger than i was expecting – similar in size to a kitchen worktop bin for teabags etc – and seems to be well made and nicely finished. It comes with a good length braided power cord with both eu and uk plug adaptors which attach to a fairly chunky plug unit. I’m not entirely convinced by the zip design but i guess it is a novel means to allow some customisation to the speaker and charge extra money for new covers. But the included handle on the side of the unit is a decent addition if you need to carry or move the speaker around. This becomes especially useful because of the speaker’s 10 hour inbuilt battery (i’ve only used for a couple of hours so can’t vouch for the 10 hour claim). The sound quality is good and the volume is both easy to control and can get very loud. The little touchscreen panel atop the speaker is easy to use once you know how – thankfully there are instructions included and readily available online too. The one slight drawback on the touchscreen panel is the lack of brightness control, as it does have a tendency to be a tad too bright when in a dark room.

Unusually attractive speaker. His is quite an unusual speaker in terms of looks, and it has certainly generated a few comments from visitors who wonder what it us. The sound quality is pretty good for a speaker of this size and type and (almost as importantly) i found it very easy to set up. I linked mine to my samsung phone and from there it was easy to link to my laptop, home network, and the family’s assorted collection of tablets. Other things of note, the packaging is pretty good, a very stout cardboard tube with thick foam end pieces which keep it safe and sound in transit. They are quite firmly wedged in so it may take you some time to coax the speaker out of its box :).

I honestly cannot find a fault. I’ve owned quite a few of these new fangled wireless speakers and this is far and away my favourite. It quite simply ticks all the boxes i want for a smart bit of technology, it looks great, it feels good, it’s easy to use (very important) and it sounds extremely goodit comes in a very smart and similarly cylindrical box which is about twice its size and almost too nice to consider throwing away. Slipping out the speaker, one is first struck by its reassuring weight and build quality. It weighs just over a kg and is extremely robust. No screens or dangling extremities to worry about here. It even has its own carry handle which can double up as a hanger. Mine came seemingly fully charged and, after tuning it on at the button near the base it comes to life with a bass rumble and a beep and the libratone bird symbol lights up on the top. The circle at the top is rather like an ipod classic touch wheel which you can run your finger over to adjust the volume or place your palm over to temporarily mute the device. It also has a heart button on it, pressing this will select a random online radio station for those moments when you just want your music to be chosen for you.

The quality is very good but above all the sound is excellent. The customer services is also very good as i needed there help. If you buy it, you will not regret.

I already have several wireless speakers, all of them much smaller than this item, and i thought that they were pretty good. However, i have to say that in terms of quality of sound, this one totally blows the others out of the water. I now use it a lot, to play music from my phone or tablet (via bluetooth) or to listen to internet radio (via wi-fi). As is all too often the case these days, there’s an obligatory phone app as part of the package, and imo that’s what really lets this item down. Like several other reviewers, i found it a major hassle setting up my speaker using libratone’s own software. It seemed glitchy and non-intuitive – so much so that at first i thought there must be something wrong with my speaker.
