I’ve been using this philips wecall bluetooth conference speaker for a couple of years now, mostly with dragon naturallyspeaking dictation software, as i like to dictate sometimes but don’t like wearing a headset. It works great and is obviously good for calls too. Given that this is newer, far more expensive and appears to have a higher specification i was hoping this might do an even better job. Unfortunately, tested under identical conditions, the sound is good, but not as good as the philips wecall which is also slightly smaller.
This is a nice bit of kit and really helps with sound quality if using a tablet or phone for skype when you have a couple of people in the room. It is however a drain on the battery and the power needed seemed to make my tablet run slower. That said it is an old tablet.
I have a couple of grumbles about my lg g4. Speaker quality isn’t great and volume isn’t loud enough. In comes the konftel ego – a compact bluetooth speaker for conferencing and music playback. The ego comes with a soft pouch and a usb charging cable (micro usb). The unit is powered by a 1000mah battery which should provide 12 hours of talk according to konftel’s web site. Charging takes a couple of hours depending on the charging source. The power button, headphone jack and usb charging port are located at the back of the ego. The rest of the controls are touch sensitive – making/ending calls, mute, bluetooth button and volume controls. When you power up the ego, it has a superb set of led status lights. The main one is on top of the speaker that acts as the on/off indicator and volume setting.

“An Ego without an ego
, wonderful gadget
, Fantastic microphone range for that size
This is a brilliant little speakerphone. Very easy to pair with a phone and works via usb instantly. Audio quality is crisp and clear and even using it as a portable music speaker has been great – not a lot of bass but plenty of clarity – surprising for such a small package. Battery life is fantastic as well, so far. There’s a little screen between the speakers at the front which displays things like bluetooth status through a series of icons, which is really helpful to give visual feedback on whether or not it’s doing what it should. Which isn’t really an issue because – and i rarely make such claims – so far, everything has just worked.
So incredibly easy to set up instructions weren’t even needed. Using as a conference call speaker with my iphone, i found the sound to be a bit muffled, i also was told i could barely be heard unless i lifted the unit to my mouth. As a bluetooth speaker the found is great, fairly loud albeit slightly tinny. I love the light designs hidden beneath the speaker lid. They give it a dynamic look, and i especially like being able to visually see how high the volume is. Has buttons that let you skip back and forth between songs or youtube videos without even touching the phone or ipad. Will most likely be used more as a speaker, but really like the unit and the design, it’s do small and compact and only needs to charge via usb. Comes with a little protective case and the packaging is minimal which is nice, no plastic or polystyrene to throw out, just a small cardboard box.
I’ve reviewed a few conference call speakers, the most recent an offering from logitech. The thing is i’ve always liked the idea of it, but they’ve always let me down. They don’t need to be mp3 speakers for your phone, they just need to do one thing excellently and that’s speech. This really delivers, it’s super easy to use and the call quality is very good – it sounds amazing and other people can hear you very well too. It looks good and the battery lasts a long time too. All in all this is an excellent conference call speaker. Ironically this will play music too, but although that’s all well and good, there a better products out there if that’s what you want. This is a great conference speaker though.
Excellent speaker and sound quality.
♦ introduction ♦the ego is a compact and lightweight speakerphone designed for hands-free conference calls and music use. It features a long lasting battery, multiple connection options (wired or bluetooth), touch sensitive buttons and an lcd screen. This product not only offers hd audio, it also boats ‘omnisound’ technology for 360° sound; great for when in use with multiple people who may not all be within able to fit within the same space. ♦ box contents ♦∙ main unit. ∙ soft case which offers minimum protection, but helps prevent from getting dirty. ♦ unit set-up & use ♦no matter which way you decide to connect with the speakerphone, i found it to be very straight forward. – wired set-up (pc/laptop):1) connect your computer to the speakerphone via the included usb cable. 2) hold down the power button on the speakerphone until it powers on.
I am absolutely delighted with this producton post and packing you can see that this is an extremely well made product with a top end feel. Styling is beautiful and it is really nice item to have sitting on your desk. The manufacturers have on to great lengths to make this look like a top quality product. Pairing with my mobile phone with very easy. I could not believe the quality of sound from this speaker. . There were no gaps or missing bits of conversation as you normally get from a speaker phone. Conversation was crystal clear and it actually sounded as though i was talking to the person in the room. The digital displays are very clear and easy to operate and what a relief that is because when you are on an important call you don’t want to be mucking about looking for the volume control. Naturally you can also use this to stream music or radio.
It’s hard to fault this little conference phone. Got it on a special deal, so price was good. Delivers just what i needed, a conference phone for six people in our office. Works brilliantly with skype, skype for business and others. Plug the usb cable into the laptop and away you go. It’s acceptable as a portable speaker too.
The konftel arrived in a plain brown box that to me is practical and protective. Iniside is the unit, hiding in a neoprene case, micro usb cable and some instructions and details. Instructions were not needed as it was both easy and straightforward to pair the device and get going. It can be paired using bluetooth or nfc. Connection wise there is also a 3. 5mm jack for a headset or whatever. Built quality is superb it feels solid, well made with no cheap feeling or flimsy bits. I like the shape of it and under the mesh at the top as an lcd screen that serves to indicate your current status ie music or call etc. It claims up to 12 hours talk time and i guess music would substantially reduce this depending on type and volume. On that note it’s handy you can have calls and music through the one device which for me means the odd bit of music when i’m hot desking.
Out of the box, the unit is compact and relatively slim for a speaker so there’s a sense of easy portability. It looks professional too – so i’m happy to use it for conference calls when clients and contacts are in our business meeting room. There’s a neat little protective pouch and a short usb cable which tucks into the pouch with the speaker. It has an internal rechargeable battery which seems to last ages. It paired easily with my phone and hooked up effortlessly with both pc and laptop. One feature i really like is there is a large display under one of the grills which lights up briefly to show the connection in use (blue icon for bluetooth and orange usb icon for that – simples). The sound quality is actually excellent for voice calls (after all that is the main intended use). Both our end and the other had a clear conversation. I tried both pop and classical tracks, switching between my (hp) pc’s own speaker and the konfitel.
Bought this to use in a meeting, the idea is great and it would work well in a small room but unfortunately didn’t really work in a really big room.
I have always made use of a conference/ loud speaker of some sorts over the last 18 years. Anyone who has used a good speaker will know that even the best smart phone default loud speaker is simply not up to the job. I use the konftel ego on a daily basis with my wileyfox swift 4g dual sim-free smartphone – black. I have also tested it with the apple iphone 6 and the quality is consistent between both android and ios platformsi ended up purchasing a 2nd konftel ego. One i use for work and the other i leave and use around my home. At work in the office hours i will use the device in meeting rooms for conference calls. I also use it when visiting customer locations, customers are often pleasantly surprised when they see me using the device. Making positive comments on the quality of the sound in comparison to their standard built-in mobile phone ‘loud speaker’ which often leads on to conversations regarding the importance of quality conversations and the perceptions it can give to prospects/customers in business. At the office we streamed the euro 2016 england matches and the ego was a saviour allowing all of us to hear the match commentary in our very large open plan space. At homei will have conversations hands free in my living room, take calls while i’m preparing food and listening to music/podcast whilst gardening or hosting a bbq.
Pretty good conference / speakerphone. That said, i also own the similarly priced logitetch equivalent model which i feel has the upper hand. The logitech has a built-in usb charging cable that is integral to the unit and is stored in the base; is slightly louder volume-wise; and i’ve found connects more easily via bluetooth than this konfitel does, having tried used both. On the plus side, the konfitel is lighter and has a flat and slightly sleeker look. But owning and using both, for my money the logitech p710e has the upper hand.
Like many others i seem to find myself involved in conference calls during the day. Instant messaging apps like skype for business are also becoming increasingly important and i do not like spending the day with headphones on. I have been using a different bluetooth attached speakerphone with my mobile and also with skype but was not happy with the performance. This is a significant improvement over my previous kit; the sound quality is better, the audio feed much clearer and with a deeper tone – less tinny. The microphone makes a good job of picking up speech and has been reported to be very clear at the other end of calls. The functions on the device are well labelled and easy to use. A light indication of connection via bluetooth is given and there is a very clear display cunningly hidden under the speaker mesh. Bluetooth pairing is simple and newer devices are able to tap to pair. A well designed sturdy unit that works very well.
What a wonderful little gadget, very clear audio. One more notch worth of volume would make it perfect. Premium feel with thoughtful, clear bright status illuminationoddly since upgrading my network to unify, hard wired aps the low volume issue is gone.
Just after unboxing i could tell that want i have in my hand is a premium device. Gorgeous packaging an inside, alongside the speaker are a luxurious carry case in the shape of the speaker and a white usb cable. Phone conversation is crystal clear. I have another conference speaker from logitech which is amazing but has seen days so it was no surprise that this speaker outperformed it. With my old speaker, the sound is in one direction, from the one corner of the speaker. In konftel ego, the sound is from all sides. If you hold the speaker by your ear and rotate it , you will not hear the sound coming from a particular side of the speaker, it will be oozing from all directions. So even for listening to music you get that enveloping effect, kind of surround sound. Excellent for listening to music. You really get the lows, deep bass and clear treble with anything in the middle still crystal clear.
Works well with both my mobile phone (via bluetooth) and my pc via the supplied usb connector.
The konftel is a great option to consider when selecting a bluetooth speakerphone. There are cheaper options out there but this does deliver a lot of bang for your buck. The ego comes in simple brown cardboard packaging, along with basic in instructions, a soft carry case and a micro usb charging cable. Powering on the device (the only physical button) tucked away on the backside of the device brings up yellow coloured flash of leds on the sides accompanied by short tune. Plugging into my apple mac to charge connected it straight away without pairing (although with limited functionality). Using the touch sensitive buttons it was easy to pair to my phone as well, turning the leds to a blue colour to indicate a successful connection. There is also nfc pairing which i am yet to try but a nice addition to speed up pairing even morethe sound quality is great, a decent level can be achieved which will comfortably fill a small hotel or conference room. I would have liked a bit finer control over the volume, with only 7 volume levels available, but this is only a minor niggle. As with pressing any other button, the display indicates the current function, in this case with blue bars showing the selected volume level. This works great for those sometimes hard to hear long distance calls, as well as relaxing with some music afterwards.
The konftel ego conference phone is an excellent addition to the conference phone market. It’s small lightweight size is a big plus, making the device highly portable. It’s zip case fits snuggly providing good protection for the device and its rechargeable batteries means that there’s no need to find a plug on the go. The sound quality is excellent for calls and for streaming music. The dual function of this device is what i find most appealing. Conference phones are an essential part of workplace life but can be over complicated and based on older technologies. The konftel ego conference phone rectifies this, using the latest omnisound technology to provide crystal clear sound production and advanced bluetooth technology that supports ultra-fast pairing with mobile devices. The konftel ego conference phone is straight-forward to set-up and intuitive to use; if you are used to touch screen mobile technology then you don’t need to read the instructions, just pair and go. It paired with my iphone 5s almost instantly and believe me that isn’t always the case when pairing devices. All in all this is an excellent device for work and life on the go – highly recommended.
Volume is just not quite good enough. Don’t get me wrong it is a million miles better than trying to use the iphone directly for a conference.
I had a jabra 510 before which got lost. After recommendations i bought this konftel instead and it was the right decision. It is about the same size and as easy to use, but specifically the microphone range is so much better. We have a lot of skype meetings and we had some meetings with 10 and more persons round a big, rectangular conference table and there was no problem for either us onside or the persons on skype to hear and be heard. I can even agree that the sound quality when using it as a bluetooth speaker for spotify is good. A nice softcase is included to protect the konftel and my is travelling a lot.
Delighted with this and first impressions were great. Sound and mic are best i have had. Looks fantastic lit up and minimal conflict when mobile and laptop are connected to it.
