JBL Playlist Wireless speaker – Excellent Sound Quality

Performed as described, easy to use and set up, with a very clear sound.

Bought mine from else where. For the price it is an ok speaker – great for the kitchen- not had any dropouts though for me it doesn’t sound quite as good as a sonos play 1 however i bought it for use with google home which sonos doesn’t currently offer. However if you do want to cast from google home, be warned the chrome cast firmware on the jbl (at least on my device) is v1. 2x – current chromecast audio devices are on v1. The one feature that version 1. 25 brought in was the ability to drop the speaker volume when you talk to google. This means that google home becomes completely unreliable when the speaker is playing music. I checked with jbl and support person informed be that its up to google to update it and jbl cannot help. True or not i doubt it will ever be updated. The only work around was to spend another £30 on a chromecast audio to plug into the back.

A gift for my daughter who loves this wifi speaker. It seems to have excellent sound quality but sometimes cuts out if you move around the room. The range seems to be quite limited but otherwise no problems. Here are the specifications for the JBL Playlist Wireless speaker:

  • Make sure this fits
    by entering your model number.
  • Easily cast music to your speakers
  • Listen to your favourites, anytime
  • Spotify Connect, a better way to listen at home
  • Enjoy your music without interruption
  • Simple setup and multi-room control with Google Home app

Remarkably ‘big’ sound from a relatively small item. Sound quality is a cut above the usual bluetooth speakers, albeit at a higher cost. The playlist features a passive bass radiator at the rear of the cabinet and this really makes a difference. Chrome casting works well, from google play music or from other apps such as bbc iplayer radio. I did encounter a problem with an amazon echo dot via bluetooth – the jbl kept shutting down into power-saving mode because it didn’t appear to recognise that a sound source was present. I did discuss this with jbl support, but did not get a resolution. I have connected the echo dot via a jack cable, which works ok. Jbl support is good to have and responds quite quickly to queries.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Great, highly recommend.
  • Good speaker for the price, BUT be careful the chrome cast firmware is old, important if you want to use it with Google Home
  • It seems to have excellent sound quality but sometimes cuts out if you move
