Super value and awesome full range sound quality. Works exceptionally well in corner of a room. Pretty natural sound tuning. I only use it at low to moderate volume, so not sure how it will perform as a ‘party speaker’, but i’m very impressed. I honestly think one will have to spend a whole lot more (multitudes) to get better sound – this thing is extremely well priced. I’ve had many portable and dock speakers, including b&w zeppelin air, apple hifi, harman kardon go-play, jbl flip3 and flip4. This speaker is more enjoyable than all of the mentioned ones, except for maybe the apple hifi (for which i have a very special affinity. Have to admit though that the doss is nicer when portability is a factor and it has better bass presence at lower volumes and stuck in a corner. I think this is a keeper for sure and can’t see why anyone would sell these on.
Wow for a smallish size this bluetooth speaker rocks. It gets down too some really low bass notes. Just seen a youtube vid of it going as low as 36 hertz. It also sounds louder than 40 watts. So buying this was a bit of a bit of a no brainier in my book. Because the whole speaker system looks to be based on the the old sony stsx77, which retailed for £249. I’m just listening to it now have connected a old ipod running ios 7. Paired no problem as sounds really good at half volume.
Clear sound, deep bass, great speaker.
Very good sound, very well builld, fantastic sound and good budget.

Great sound with plenty of base.
I was convinced from the positive reviews to buy this speaker, but feel now that while it is indeed good value for money, it is not – sonically – as good as many reviewers state. The bass really is its strength, powerful and deep; but – to my ears – this is a cost to the mid range and upper registers with vocals especially feeling “small” and rather recessed, somehow “inside” the speaker. I was able to compare this with my own amazon echo, my son’s jbl charge 3 and a bose soundlink revolve plus. All three provided a more natural-seeming, balanced and rounded sound. In the end, i bit the bullet and bought a bose – it’s frankly superb. You do get what you pay for with bose.
What a wonderful speaker this is. Well had 2 wonderful hours of utube and iphone tracks. Got tiered pulled, out the charging cable from the back, checked the charge light and it was green. As i pulled the lead out it went all loose in the hole that it fits in. The fine charging pin had come away. So the plug/connector would not stay in,so unable to charge. Portable speaker not robust enough by a long way. Update:doss have a truly wonderful customer care service department. There engineers are investigating the charge pin problem and have replaced my speaker with a new one direct, not a “second hand” used one as supplied by amazon. As originally stated, this speaker in my view is superb. The audiophiles may be able to nit pick issues with it, but having spent a morning in a well known store in the uk, there was nothing that would come close to the xl’s performance, even almost tripling the cost and less delivery.
This is a great blue tooth speaker. If you compare it to other speakers you will notice that it is better than speakers twice or triple the price. I must say that i bought the doss soundbox xl a half year ago when the price was 64 pounds. Since then the price has gone up but the speaker is still worth it.
Excellent sound, good volume. Pairs no problem, battery life decent too.
The speaker has good quality. Bass is excellent without booming. High frequencies are a bit “hidden”, but not so much. Overall i would recommend it. For comparison reasons if harman kardon onyx studio 3 takes 8,5/10 in sound quality , then this speaker takes 8/10 which is fairly close.
This could’ve easily been 5 stars. When i unboxed it, first thing what happened was the little piece of trim at the top fell off – not sure if it got unstuck during shipping or it was not glued on preoperly – this straight away gave me a bad impression about build quality. The unit itself felt solid enough, if lighter than i expected for the size of the speaker. The real problems began when i started listening to it. First i noticed was rattleling, some distorion and farts whistles from the back – probably a defective unit – the aux, charge and tf card slots were leaking air making these noise that were very audible past half volume and distorted at high volumes. As well as that there was some audible rattles from the top of the speaker – maybe buttons, maybe the trim piece was still not on properly. Other than that it’s a really nice and full sounding speaker, but unfortunantly i’ll have to return mine and i am not sure if i will be purchasing a new one. Ps i did not have any grill rattle or hiss noises reported by others.
I’ve had several slightly smaller and slightly less expensive speakers but for the price – when i say there is no comparison there really is no comparison. I’m listening to it now and it is simply a wonderful speaker for the price. For a small amount more than your entry level speaker this unit is way ahead. I researched and read many reviews before buying and would 100% say buy this.
This speaker when i first saw this i thought hmm is it as good as the cheaper jbl speakers and i ordered it and it sounded incredible, the low notes were insane and i seriously recommend buying this product, the only downside is that when it gets louder the bass doesn’t and if you drop it there’s a high chance that it will cause an air leak and ruin the bass of the speaker but it’s easy fix.
Firstly, i am 65 years old, i don’t like playing my music load and i know nothing about bose. Plus, the first speaker received was faulty, it kept turning itself off. Doss sent me another one, but, i should have used amazon to get a another one, as i had no way of tracking the replacement. Despite all that, i love the sound from the speaker, probably the best i have ever bought. It does a great job of letting you hear just how important the base guitar is. I used it during a bbq on saturday and it ran for about 3 hours, using the micro sd card. The next day, i used it go listen my favourite country station from the usa, and that was another 2 hours through bluetooth, with no need to charge it. It feels very sturdy and weighty, but not really heavy. Reading other reviews, bose do make a cheap speaker, but it got a lot of poor reviews, so this speaker is probably the better option. Other reviews complain about a distortion with the doss speaker, i have only had this happen when the american presenter spoke, never with any of my music.
Bass is stunning for such a compact unit.
Excellent sound for the price, deep base, clear highs and nice mids. Some recordings can make the bass sound a bit uncontrolled though, and i’m currently looking into fixing this issue. Sounds like a much more expensive speaker, so overall i’m really pleased. One of the better bluetooth speakers up to 150 – 200 dollars, if not the best.
Firstly, this speaker is pretty barebones. It has no extra features, no waterproofing, no ability to pair with other speakers. Well let me tell you, it puts out sound that is absolutely incredible for its size. I also own a ue megaboom, and if we are comparing sound alone the doss soundbox xl is head & shoulders above the megaboom, a speaker which was twice the price. Ok admittedly it lacks some features of the ue, but if you just want something that sounds good this is it. Build quality leaves a bit to be desired, and there did appear to be some slight superficial scratching to the case, but honestly it’s hard to complain as you will not find anything that sounds anywhere near as good as this at this price point. Update: the build quality seems to have reared its ugly-head. Their appears to be a slight buzzing at certain frequencies. Shall keep an eye to see if it persists and/or gets worse.
I purchased this product after seeing reviews on youtube and also on amazon, some very positive and a few with issues. Thinking that if i have any issues amazon’s easy returns policy would cover me. I received the doss soundbox xl and was very pleased with both the build quality and sound quality of this larger format speaker( similar in size to a box of family tissues). The speaker has a classy and understated matt black finish which helps to hide finger prints and is intuitively easy to use. The instructions are clearly written. There are controls on the top of the speaker to pause play as well as to skip to the next or previous track which is very useful. Other controls are power on , volume and a source button to allow selection of memory card or line in connection. The bluetooth connection has very good range and connects with ease. It has connect and disconnect sounds which can be a little loud for my tastes. The speaker is charged not by usb , which may be a missed opportunity for convenience , but by a small transformer plug and the lead is terminated with a small pin connector which may in time be a little less robust if abused or not treated with care.
A warm, but pure sound for easy listening. Great bass the built quality is also good. Very satisfied with the product.
A great speaker with nice full sound, as mentioned by the other reviewer, but unfortunately let down by one issue. When the speaker is on i hear a static noise, which seems to be emanating from the upper left and also the upper right side of the device (so probably the left and right drivers i’m guessing?). It’s not very loud but nonetheless noticeable. This happens regardless of whether it is paired with another device or not. It also happens regardless of whether it is playing something or not; reducing the volume on both the speaker and the paired computer to zero didn’t help. I tried connecting it via the aux input instead of bluetooth but that also didn’t help. I’m not sure if this is an issue that only my device is facing or if it’s an issue that all of them suffer from?.
Just watch clavinetjunkie reviews. The best speaker price/performance wise.
I read some review that this is an amazing speaker for the price. I can say that it is good but i am not amazed. Sound: the speaker produces really deep bass but it doesn’t have enough punch for my liking. I would prefer it to have more booming and punchy sound. For indoor use the speaker is plenty loud. Design: the speaker is just one big box. It is pretty big and this is probably why i am not amazed. You expect such a large speaker to produce such sound. Features: it is as basic as they come. Just a plain bluetooth speaker with no additional features.
