Delivered on time and well packaged, but bizarrely, without mounting screws. Fortunately i was replacing a speaker, but pity the cabinet builder. I replaced a celestion classic lead 80 in a wem dominator bass mki, as that combination had a nasty mid-range ‘screech’, and lacked sparkle. The greenback delivered as expected – a more ‘woody’, compressed mid-range with a smooth, sweet treble. I suspect this re-issue has less mid-range honk than a heritage model, as it does not sound like the nasal ‘bluesbreaker’ tone of early clapton, but nevertheless the sound is instantly recognisable as classic blues-rock, handling anything from the angry roar of ’70s rock, to more rounded modern tones and sweet cleans. I play a gibson les paul vintage mahogany, mainly now through a marshall class 5 tube combo, using the greenback as an extension speaker in my wem cabinet, and it is louder, sweeter and less ‘boxy’ and harsh than the (otherwise pretty impressive) 10″ stock speaker in the marshall. A worthwhile upgrade for me at least, as the all-mahogany les paul mid-range honk can sometimes overpower if you are not careful.
