Great service and even better sound. Great service and even better sound. I can switch off my sub titles now. Also, i am going to re watch the wire now i can hear everything.
Wow – how they got that sound from such a little box i’ll never know. I was in the market for some speakers because, i’d just purchased a shiny new samsung flat screen for my kitchen, and as expected the sound from these thin tvs are shocking – no depth, bass or clarity whatsoever. I therefore started doing my research on surround sound systems, sound bars and sound bases and looked at pretty much everything available from bose, philips, sony, yamaha, samsung etc then i read a review of the canton on what-hifi. Personally i hadn’t ever heard of canton before buying this all in one, but after looking up the company apparently they are the best speaker company in germany, that do 20k stereo speakers. With years of audio heritage. I didn’t want the hassle of all the wires and amps of a 5. 1 system and my extension where this needs to go is about 5x4m so it’s quite small. Fortunately i was able to wait for a friend who purchased first, shortly after he got it i asked him to borrow for the weekend so i could test in my extension before i pulled the trigger. When i first got it out of the box i was very surprised as to how small this thing was, it’s not much bigger than a standard dvd player, and very very thin. I thought to myself this thing is going to be rubbish.
My partner bought this for me as a birthday present (well actually i ordered it on her amazon account) and wow what a good choice it was. I have been looking at home cinema systems for months but have always been put off by the clutter of speakers around the room and the chore or having to take up the carpet to hide the cables. This product is an amazing solution for people like me who want great sound adding to their tv by just adding a small box underneath the tv. It was really easy to connect to the tv and it is easily strong enough to support my 42′ tv so no worries about that sitting on top of the canton. The sound is amazing and even normal tv sounds so much better than the cheap speakers in the tv itself. There’s a really clever function where the canton learns the commands from the tv’s remote control so i can use my pioneer tv remote to turn the volume on the canton up and down – it’s so easy even my five year old nephew has been enjoying it. The bluetooth connection is really good too and i have my ipad and iphone connected so it’s really good for music too. Sound quality is fantastic – films sound like they do at the cinema and mtv is like having the band in the room.It can be turned up really loud too so hope my neighbours enjoy my music collection.
I chose this soundbase for a couple of reasons; it’s to fit into an alcove beneath a new 40′ tv (ie: not enough width/space for a long soundbar), it doesn’t require a separate sub (the wires for a remote sub-bass things look cluttered), and the reviews of its audio quality were excellent. Out of the box, i managed to get the system installed within minutes. Connected to the tv, then programmed the canton dm50 with the tv’s remote so we only need the one remote so my wife doesn’t complain too much. Results: the soundbase fits perfectly under the tv-stand – literally looks like they were made for each other(and worth remembering to check measurements beforehand ). It’s completely clean-looking – discreet and without trailing wires. And the sound is phenomenal. Crisp at the top end, punchy in the bass. I mean it not only makes my ps4 games sound like they’re supposed to (the guns in destiny really sound like they have oomph, and battlefront tie fighters have a proper throaty screech), it makes everyday stuff sound immense. Who knew the theme for pointless had that much sonic woof ?options to change the bass and treble to suit your own taste, and to select from three preset eqs to reflect your set-up – whether the soundbase is sitting in a shelving unit, or beneath a tv, etc) you can also choose from two audio-ranges (wide and narrow).
To be fair, i never listened to the bose, cambridge audio or denon systems so can’t really compare, so you may be able to get the same quality sound for less. Saying that, i am not at all disappointed with this speaker. The sound is very clear and dialogue is not affected by the soundscape that is created by the 200 watts. I will say that the surround sound mode is a bit pointless with the stereo option sounding equally as good. If you want true surround sound, ignore your wife and buy loads of speakers, if not the get a sound bar/base.
Canton DM 50 TV Sound Plinth / Bar, 2.1 Virtual Surround System with 200watts in Silver : I bought it after reading a review in ‘what hifi’ and it is way better than my tv audio. However, i am a bit disappointed with its sound. The mid tones, especially vocals, are a bit underwhelming unless i jack the sound and then the bass is overwhelming. However, quite often its the compressed nature of the sound track that’s at fault, not the canton.
