On the positive the sound is superb, far better than any other i have and certainly on a parr, if not better than the bose. It oozes quality, feels wonderful and the battery life is more than adequate. On the negative who thought that hiding all the control buttons and making them invisible was a good idea?. I challenge anyone to turn this on/off in anything other than bright sunlight and a good pair of glasses. Even the grandchildren find it difficult to turn on and they are tech ninjas. A final mail in its coffin is that it shuts down after 15mins inactivity so the hunt for the on button starts all over again. So in summary yes i love it, the sound is incredible but i just wish i could turn it on.
The best portable loudspeaker i ever had: i hardly go in any trip without it. Nice sound, detailed and very ‘full’.
Excellent piece of equipment. It is light and compact and the quality of the sound is superb and sounds like it is coming from a top of the range hi-fi. I’d definitely recommend this for playing your music from you phone around a pool laying in the sunshine with a cool beer.
I’ve wanted a portable speaker for years but never bought one. Friends have to bose soundlink mini and are very good but i finally put my hand in my pocket and bought a b&o a1 speaker. I honestly can say it blows bose out the water and will shock you with how loud this thing is. It’s says 24 hour battery life and from full charge mine lasts around 2-3 hoursso i’m not sure where this 24 hour battery life is.
My husband thinks it’s the best thing ever. It is said to be top of the range & he’s sticking by that but he did struggle with finding the buttons.
Excellent sound quality, great battery life and a really superb build.
- Hidden controls.
- WARRANTY INFORMATION – I have owned this for almost two years and
- Deceptively powerful with a lively tone
Small enough to become a travel partner, sounds good enough to be a home speaker (at reasonable volumes). The sound is amazing considering it is 169 gbp and so compact. I also like the fact it comes with a leather strap so you can hang it on door handles, hooks etc. It looks good on a wall and it sounds even better in that position than on a table. Bo is usually out of my price range but this is good value for money in my opinion. Only negatives: battery life is not top of its class, buttons are heavy to press and there is no battery or volume display.
Great product, nice solid feel to it and great sound, easy to sync my stuff to,one minor gripe is the buttons are difficult to touch without picking the thing up and looking for them, apart from that, love it.
I spent ages deciding wether or not to spend the money on this speaker, and unfortunately i wish i bought it sooner. This thing just sounds sparkling and rich in detail, and really packs a punch.
Absolutely stunning speaker with a beautiful and powerful sound. I can’t fault the beoplay a1 at all. Not sure on the battery life as i have this permanently plugged in in the bedroom but would highly recommend for the looks and sound alone.
This speaker sounds as good as it looks. Easy to connect, very natural and accurate sound reproduction. The unit belies its size and realistically you should not expect better sound from something this size.

This was a present for my other half, as he has been complaining about taking his speaker to work and not being able to hear it over the machines. So, spend time looking for a decent speaker and ended up purchasing this for him. He abso loves it, says he can hear it clearly, it’s durable against being knocked, and the battery life can last for 24 hours.
Returned as volume went down along with the battery.
I have owned this for almost two years, and the buttons stopped working. It would only power-on, at which point all buttons would not function and i couldn’t even shut it off (had to wait for it to shutdown when idle). I used the b&o returns site. Got a *free* usp delivery return (it goes to germany). A week later i get a mail ‘confirmed it’s a manufacturing fault’ and two days later i have a new, sealed and working a1 with me. The whole process was painless and b&o just earned a customer for life. Acesi have lived with this for two years and it’s been superb. The sound quality is very high (i typically listen to my ruark mr1s at home which should give you an idea about my audio hardware tastes).
Unbelievable sound quality and loud enough to have on at work. I’m shaking my head at just how good this speaker is.
Very nice and clear sound, lovely bass, quite impressive battery life. Had not tested it outside since it wasn’t the main reason that i’d bought it for. Worth the money- although i might add, quite a bit of money.
Ok, firstly this is an excellent speaker with great sound all-round. I own the beloit 15 so familiar with b&o quality and build. Took this little beauty away on holiday and simply amazed with the quality and clarity of sound, being omni direction the sound is good from all angles. Battery power obviously last long if turned down low however if you’re going away grab a portable battery pack hey presto . I would also recommend a case to protect this item albeit b&o mention something about every dent is memory and to be fair i want this think looking good for a long-time. You can control the volume and eq from b&o app although the eq is not a huge distinction but can make subtle changes. With the functionality to link or pair a1’s together i can imagine and probably be the best mobile/portable sound available however this is where it stops because you can not pair with other b&o portable devices which is a dam shame hence 4 stars. I am considering buying another a1 to pair because i love my music in the garden / beach pretty much anywhere to be fair however is it essential no, do i want another yes.
Weighing only 600 g, the ultra-portable Bluetooth speaker lets you enjoy music and make calls on the go.
A fantastic small blue tooth speaker from b&o sound quality cannot be beaten by any speaker of similar size and in some cases by much larger more expensive speakers this is my second one so i can now pair them to stream in stereo one negative point the controls could be better marked trouble seeing them shoul be boulder.
Amazing high quality sound from such a compact item, fills the room with sound with out being loud.
I love music, in fact i can’t live without it, if i’m not listening to it, i have a song/tune in my head pretty much 24/7, which is why i was ecstatic when i unwrapped this on christmas day morning – me and my husband use the same prime account making present buying possibly troublesome if not for the ‘hide order’ option. Great idea amazononto the speaker, it really is very nice to look at. It’s a good weight also, very robust however the options on the side could be hard to see if you don’t have particulary good eyesight. For me this isn’t a problem however my husband cannot see it as clearly as myself. The sound really is 360, no matter where you stood, it eminated from the centre of everywhere. I pretty much played my whole music collection over a week or so and i was nothing short of gobsmacked. I tried everything: buckethead, pink floyd, the prodigy, rolling stones, the beatles, new order, the stone roses, the list goes on. Particularly when i got to karen carpenter and mama cass, it was so clear you could hear karen carpenter breathing. The clarity had me in tears when listening to 3 of my absolute faves: john murphy sunshine adagio in d minor, the stones’ wild horses (our first wedding dance) and atmosphere from joy division (our 2nd dance) and they were sublime, so crisp – i wish i’d had this on that night. I finally turned it up to full blast during sunshine, it was blasting out, shaking our tv yet still so clear, zero distortion whatsoever. The bass level is fantastic also, not too much however you can certainly hear it.
They didn’t sound especially loud when i first tried them out but this is a powerful little unit. The deceptiveness comes from the fact that these little speakers can handle full power power all day long without distortion. You quickly realise that it is in fact pretty damn loud, especially for a speaker this size. The bass is present even at low volumes and the overall sound is balanced and crisp. These speakers are expensive but now i’m glad i didn’t go for the cheaper option.
Great speaker, amazingly loud and clear for its size. Produces great tones across the range. Battery life is very good, lasts a full day.
I was an early fan of the wired minirig. I bought another bluetooth version. They have so much undistorted volume. Especially compared with the bose soundlink ii, which isn’t as crisp. Someone once compared the quality of bass as the thickness of a grey pencil line. The bose was a very thick grey line; the minirig was much thinner, crisper. More on the minirig comparison later. You keep looking for perfection. I own three sonos play 3, a couple of which i’ve paired in the living room. Just the best i’ve ever done. But the third lives in my kitchen, where my wifi can not reach. So i’ve been looking for a quality bluetooth substitute. The minirig gets me 70% there. I bought the old amazon echo plus for £90, which is the best value for money i’ve had so far.
Bang & Olufsen Signature Sound delivers more sound, more bass and reaches a peak power of 2x140W
The sound quality blows every other similarly priced speaker i’ve tried out of the water. It’s really bright and clear and the bass is full and detailed. I actually can’t believe how good it sounds compared to minirig, audio pro t3, ue megablast etc (i’ve got a lot of speakers). It’s a little awkward to use though. Buttons are pretty much hidden – you need a really strong light source just to turn it on. I had some issues with stereo pairing – the speakers have to be within three metres of each other which really isn’t very far. Also the battery is pretty poor compared to other speakers and definitely nothing like the 24 hour claim, so not ideal if portability is important to you – you might only get the hours. For sound quality though – you’ll be amazed.
Works straight out of the box. Fairly small (although not tiny by any stretch: 600g is quite heavy if you ask me, it’s the upper limit for a travel speaker). Very loud, especially if you place it in the corner of a room (as the walls reflect the sound). I tried it side by side my big sonos, and it’s almost as loud (but with less lower and upper range). Limited distortion, except when on maximum: the bass saturates a bit. I agree with other reviewers that the buttons are not easy to locate. At night you need to search with your phone light. And there is no indication of what % of the power is usedall in all this is a good reflection of the progress made by manufacturers over the last few years.
I have an m5 in the living room and i bought this to listen to the radio in the kitchen. I was finding the speakers on my phone a bit lacking above domestic appliances. This is a fabulous little speaker. An additional benefit i found was how easy it is to sync with my work devices for skype calls.
Likes – sound quality is great, as good, or better than almost any other. Battery, nothing like as good as quoted, but ok – if you keep the volume down. That may not be why you bought it in the first place, but it is a fact. Style is good, but the practicalities are bad. Its impossible to see the ‘controls’ in anything other than bright daylight, with sun just in the right place, used at just the right time of day, with just the right following wind. Well, i should have thought twice on this one i’m afraid.
Was looking for a decent speaker that also looked good on the dining table. Has lasted me over 20 hours without dying so the 24h doesn’t seem too far fetched. Sound quality is good, about as good as one can expect from a speaker this size. Not your average bass=quality speaker but very well balanced.
Fab sound, great price via amazon, probably due to colour, ( violet ) but it looks classy.
Set up is a minute or so and you off. Great sound very deep bases sound. I like that it can be hung up anywhere. My son gave it a go and rated it highly also.
Listen longer with up to 24 hours of battery life per charge
Looks great, sounds great – surprisingly bassy and can get loud when needed. No real complaints other than the annoying buttons. They’re not easy to see, or to press, so i try not to use them too often.
The build quality is really solid and the sound quality is excellent. The built in microphone is also really good for phone calls.
Very good sound for such a small speaker, battery life is about 7 hours at about 70%,i also have a sony xb30 and this little speaker has a much better sound. My system at home is naim mu-so and believe me beoplay does not let itself down.
Brilliant sound great battery life looks good.
I was debating getting this due to the price but after listening to it all my worries are lost. The quality of the sound is breathtaking as you would expect from b&o and absolutely smashes all the competitors from bose etc. Even at 100% volume the sound is crisp with outstanding bass and treble. It’s that good i have just ordered a second one to make the sound stereo.
I purchased one of these back in august and was very impressed by it, beautifully made and sounded as good as it looked. A good clean sound not over bass heavy and without distortion at volumes that i listen to. I always wondered what a stereo set up would sound like. So i ended up getting another one on an amazon deal and although set up was via the app a simple affair initially with a wonderful full stereo sound from both speakers the next time i tried it it only played from one. I had to run the b&o app again to get both working a minor quibble given the end result. In summary after a few days using two of these this is a cracking setup, tonally neutral in mono or stereo configurations that is portable to as well.
A dust and splash-resistant aluminium dome protects the delicate drivers and electronics within when using in your home and outdoors
Only caveat is that the text on the buttons is very difficult to read. Would be good with some ‘braille symbols’ also missing battery indicator on connected phone (android).
Rather than faff about with halfords and fitting an in car system we use this to stream music whilst travelling which it is excellent at. Loud and clear and because it is portable we then also have the option to use elsewhere whilst out and about and usefully, to improve poor quality tv audio.
I realise that this is a mono speaker (when used alone), but i found that the sound quality far exceeded that of other speakers and punched well above its weight. I don’t usually comment on excellent sound quality, but this was really exceptional. Although not pocket sized, the speaker is genuinely portable and so versatile.
I purchased the bose equivalent – took it home – tested it and then returned it the same day it was flat, lacked detail, was muffled and lacked bass. Then i spent a week shop testing and comparing all the top makes / models. Quite honestly, the b&o sound quality is leagues above anything else, which matters to me. Buttons are difficult to find and use but the sound is worth the small premium i paid.
For the size you music that fills the room. I also got the a2 at the same price and i am keeping the a1 and returning the a2. Amazing product well done b&o. I would love to see the addition of wifi and spotify on it.
Amazing detailed sound, the b&o a1 is very portable, the design and the material are so quality.
Excellent speaker great service.
The b & o beoplay a1 is a great sounding little speaker. I was annoyed that two days after purchasing for £179. 99 amazon dropped the price of certain colours to £125. 00 but hey that’s not the speakers fault.
