Lots of features for the price. I was specifically after these features:bluetoothbattery powered optionfront facing lcddabaux ini actually struggled to find one that had all of these features at the time. I’ve had this for 3 years now. Never struggled to get a signal – in fact i hardly uncoil the antenna wire at the back at all and get a good dab signal. I use it mainly for dab and bluetooth from my mobile. Sound quality is pretty good for something this size. It doesn’t last long on batteries but sadly no dab radios do :(the only issue i have with it is, despite owning it for 3 years i still regularly turn it off by accident because the power button and the ok button are in opposite positions to where i’d expect them. (the on/off button is in the middle of the direction pad, weird).
Never leave reviews but couldn’t not. Think little radio cost £40, and i’m over the moon. Absolutely one of the best cheap things i’ve ever boughtit has sd slot, dab, bluetooth, usb, alarm clock chuffed to bits, and i thought it would sound like a bibble in a can but it’s actually pretty good.
Excellent little radio for the price – beautiful sound, works so easily using the bluetooth, the usb the sleep timers etc- and i love the colour. I havent tried the aux yet, and have only used it with electricity so unsure how long batteries would last if needed. Cannot recommend this little radio enough. This is a great bedside clock radio,it has all of the features one could expect a product at this price range to have, excellent signal, i don’t even need to pin up the arial. My only grumble is that it’s not immediately obvious how to do things like set alarms and set the time, to set an alarm you need to hold the snooze/dim button until alarm 1 alarm 2 etc shows on the display, once you figure this out from the well written ,clear instructions its easy. However they don’t tell you that the radio needs to be off to do this. The volume knob is very sensitive allowing you to choose any volume level that the radio is capable of, unlike my last radio that had up and down buttons that meant i could only select certain levels. During the initial scan it found 40+ stations, all of which were of a reasonable quality.
Not only do you get the choice of fm vs dab on this radio, but it also features a radio alarm function, alarm function without the radio, a usb to plug in music and the ability to stream music via bluetooth to this well built machine. Its sturdy and takes some knocks. The speaker is also very good for its class and price range.
Reviews from purchasers :
- An alarm clock that forgets the days of the week in odd numbered years, but only in August!
- The August has almost everything but cannot be charged via a USB able
- Good sound, easy to use, but why no headphone socket?
Sounds great, i like that it has so many functions. Relatively easy to use once i read the manual, but not intuitive. Connects well via bluetooth to my phone. The sleep timer is good – i can use bluetooth mode to play music from my phone to go to sleep, and it wakes me up with the radio mode in the morning. It did say in the manual that the radio mode allows specific stations to be set for the alarm, but i didn’t see an option for this when setting the alarm.
Great radio and value for money. Dab reception great in the bedroom where i use it. Compact too plus battery or mains. Bluetooth speaker brilliant to play podcasts and audible books from iphone 6s+. Only thing i criticise is the buttons don’t feel that solid and very ‘clicky’ and volume knob goes from ‘stiff’, low volume to ‘looser’ has volume turned up. Still worth it and recommend.
I’m really pleased with this radio. I use it as a bedside alarm and it looks very nice. It sounds even better – sound quality is excellent. I found it very straight forward to set up. Only a few very minor quibbles: 1/ the display is too bright for me at night even at its dimmest so i lean a book against it 2/ contrary to what the instructions say, i can’t find a way to specifiy the dab channel for the morning alarm i. It will just play the last station tuned in to 3/ i put loads of music on an sd card but you can only navigate the sd/usb inputs sequentially track by track, not even by folder, which is limiting. Overall, based on a few weeks of ownership, great product. What i like most is the massive variety of inputs, including an sd card slot (not often featured on similar products).
This replaced the most annoying radio alarm known to man. The old one finally stopped working intermittently so i wanted something easy to program and not too expensive. This was easy to program once we were able to establish a signal in my loft bedroom. It is good value and came well packaged. I can also see the screen; it’s bright enough to read.
This does the job – it connects to bluetooth, and other devices, it allows you to set two alarms, and it has a sleep function. However, it feels like a cheap and poorly designed radio. The clicking sound when you press the buttons is so loud it wakes the baby up, and the features aren’t intuitive – e. You can switch the backlight off when the radio is playing, but not when it’s switched off. It takes a lot of brainpower to memorise how to use the various features. Also, the bluetooth stays connected and looking for signals all night – so woke baby up (again) having listened to bluetooth going to sleep, because i tried to watch a video on my phone the next morning. Most speakers will time out after a few minutes of receiving no signal.
Small & compact replacement for bulky mini hi-fi in kitchen. Very happy with the sound & bluetooth functionality for streaming spotify from my phone. My reason for awarding four stars – i think the designers missed out here by not having a remote control for the unit, a little inconvenient, but i knew this before i made the purchase. Would have been a five star review if it came with a remote.
The august has almost everything i wanted from a bed side radio alarm clock at a good price: 2 alarms, dab+, bluetooth speakers, a usb charge point, a dimmable display with plenty of place for information and the option to be woken up by the radio, a buzzer or my own mp3 tracks from an sd card or a usb stick. Ideally, the device could have been a bit smaller and powered via a usb cable, rather than taking up a 240v socket by yet another unnecessary power adapter. Yes, you guessed correctly, the power adapter reduces the voltage down to 5v = usb voltage. The mind boggles, hence 1 star deducted.
The dab function can cope with my tablet being nearby without descending into crackles, unlike the previous radio. It isn’t especially intuitive to program, but the addition of bluetooth functionality more than made up for that. I love being able to play music on my phone fthough the speakers without fannying around with any cables.
What a fantastic sound from this dab radio. We used it as a speaker for spotify on christmas morning and have hardly turned it off since. It’s very lightweight and easy enough for my 9-year-old to set and use.
This stylish, retro, funky radio arrived today and it is brilliant and fantastic it looks good and sounds good. The bluetooth connection with my iphone is superb and my mp3 player connects to the usb socket. Sd card slot provides additional favourite music storage. Contrary to lesser reviews it is easy to set up and use, those who beg to differ have not looked at it properly. It really is a little gem, if you are considering a purchase then go ahead, you’ll be glad you did.
We now have two of these lovely little radios. The red one matches our camper and it comes away on holiday with us. The blue one goes well in our bedroom. I like that it can be powered by mains or battery. I like the sleep mode – you can choose how long you want it to play. I like that the alarm starts quiet quietly and then increases in sound to your chosen volume. The sound quality is fine – not at all tinny. The size is neat and fits in the spaces that we have available.
Dab signal can be easily interfered with by other electronic devices. The most limiting factor, however, is that you can switch the led display off when playing the radio but at night when you turn the radio off for a bit of sleep, even on the dimmest setting the case of the radio itself glows from the light within and your eyeballs are welded to the back of your skull as the entire room is bathed in an eldritch glow. I replaced my old clock/radio with this one as the low-pitched hum it emitted used to disturb my sleep but there is no chance of sleep with this bedside searchlight. Have to use it in the kitchen now and keep searching for something both quiet and dull.
In terms of versatility, it gets 10/10 from me. You can, one way or another, play music from just about any source. Build quality is ok, no better or worse than i would expect for the price. I can only give it 4 stars though because it is not as easy to use as it might be. I can take a lot of button presses to get from one source to another and it’s far too easy to click once too often and skip past what you want; then you have to start again.
Jusy what i need down my allotment. Easy to follow instructions and it picks up 40 dab stations and stores them easily. If had to give one negative that would be the antenna not being the pull up metal type insted its a wire. . Although it does have a handy loop to pin it up in my shed. It pairs easy with my phone so i can use my spotify and pod casts. Its a neat tidy radio thats brilliant for home, garden and shed.
Lives in the kitchen, but also great in summer in the garden. Bluetooth plays your phone playlist while cooking or relaxing. Good dab reception for local radio, all the national and international stations, and crucially test match special on the patio.
First radio i have bought for nearly 30 years so i was impressed how far they have moved on, the sound of the mb400 is first class t the point of now being the best sound/music system i own now. I haven’t got my head around all the settings as yet but i am sure that will come with a bit more time. One comment would be it maybe better to include the instructions in the language where it’s being sold, e. G uk sheet of instructions for the uk market and then they could be written in larger print for people who have vision impairment (like me). Packaging was about right although maybe a plain wrapper of some sort would improve the security when being delivered. A well made radio at a fair price and now a valuable asset. Btw i received a £10 off offer (instead of the usual £5 one) for a set of speakers which was really useful, thank you.
